    Where is the 640 derived from? That is the only place where my confusion comes from.

      Anytime you see a math problem like this you automatically start with a section of land which is 640 acres.

    Or.... 1/2 x 1/4 = 1/8 then 640 x 1/8 = 80 AC [AND] 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/16 then 640 x 1/16 = 40 AC for a total of 120 AC

      One could also simply divide the denominator by the 640. Example: instead of "1/8th x 640," try 640 ÷ 8 = 80. There are many ways to skin this cat, but I hope this helps.

      No because the question is asking you to add total acres between 2 individual legal descriptions.

    Great info! Can you explain this one? From the point of beginning, go south 1,200 feet, thence west 1,500 feet, thence north 600 feet, thence back to the point of beginning. How many acres are contained in this description?

      1 acre = $43,560 sq, ft....that should help with your formula and answer
