Good review, I own a 25th anniversary edition, it's running 280bhp stage 2 revo remap and obviously bigger turbo/injectors owned the car for 9 years won't ever sell it, vw made the mk4 boring for vw fan to mod it and the 1.8t is vw second best engine made.
@@Theo-tp2wv Swap out the turbo for the 180hp model for cheap. Get a remap with supporting mods. I think most tuners require a bigger TIP, sturdier DV, a 3" downpipe, and matching exhaust if possible. You could just get the remap and add the mods when you can afford them. However, the biggest bang is going to be the remap without question.
Would u buy a 2000’s 1.8t with 182.000kms on the engine? its highly modded… so i bet the engine went through a lot of stress, but what u think, should i cop?
The Mk4 being heavily criticised was mainly towards the 2.0 GTI (non turbo, known as the 2slow) the 1.8T is a great little, lively engine I still have a Mk4 tdi and absolutely love it
"The worse GTI" I've heard this before. I purchase a new 2001 4dr manual 1.8t. I loved every single day of ownership. So much fun and was very reliable for me. Would buy another without hesitation.
some stuff in this video I cant agree on these cars are great, Im on my goal to 700hp my friend has a mk4 gti making 560hp and these cars and these easiest car to get power out of
The 1.8t really carries this car...youre stupid if you dont put software on it And in general, you just have to do some stuff, the must haves are new chassis to make the car lower, some spacers and the front lip (the one you have for example). Then your car has abolsutely nothing to to with a 1.4 anymore, it looks so much better. Still, nobody will make space for you on the autobahn (probably more a german problem), but it definitely looks sporty, and everybody knows its not a 90 year old grandma sitting in it
Hows insurance like for you? ( i know you live in a different place ) but how is compared to your previous cars and previous living area Edit.... you answered it lol
I loved that the mk4 was the fattest yet mine weighs 1135 with a full tank and I have A/C compressor to remove sound deadening behind the dash and air bags to remove and put lighter seats in the mk4 is an awesome platform to go nuts on. Mine has a bora front 3 door red golf easy cars to work on mines a 99 plate no rust 134 k and is 150hp AGU I bought mine for £80 I'm at 4k now and its stage 3 map is pushing 280hp I'm not a mechanic these cars are a good starting point if u want to learn how to mod ur car
Glad your still enjoying the car after all the bad luck you had with previous cars. City mpg is better than I thought I would have thought it would be mid to high 20s at best
Good to see you back making more videos Luke, nice review I understand what you mean about the quality side of the car over a fast hot hatch which cuts corners in certain areas
I just brought one last wkd. 2002 model, 6 speed and I think it’s 180bhp. My first vw and I don’t know anything about them. Already needs a clutch replacing.. lol
I bought one of these new. I still have it as my daily driver. Golf gti 1.8t. I’m sure I paid £15k via virgin cars imported from Sweden. U.K. official cars cost £17k. £30K ???!?!
Absolute LEGEND. Insta sub, I'm living in AUS and just got my first good paying job, there's quite a few of these with 200,000-250,000 k's for about 6 grand with road worthies etc. I'm IN LOVE with the MK4 styling and would absolutely adore to get one of these and mod it tastefully. The part I loved about this review is that it was accessible and covered some of the details which you can't often find in the "specifications" section on a used car on a 2nd hand website. Priceless knowledge to learn about the fuel economy and the comfort of the seats.
I had a mk4 V5 and it was the sloppiest car I’ve ever owned!! I did however get the 5 cylinder bug and I’ve now got a Volvo V70r an awesome machine I’ll tell you that! I still love volkswagen though I’ll have another for sure! Good video
A friend of mine has a MK5 GTI, he’s got a tasty upgraded turbo, big cat back exhaust and remap, plus bigger inter poker. The car is fast, and I mean very fast, I was amazed
@@LukeBudd thanks. Ended up being a 150hp model. But worth it. Got the car for $3500 aud. Has a fair few mods. 2 1/2 inch turbo back, front mounted inter cooler. Just a few to name.
Mate when are you going to start modifying your car? Since the lockdown I've been working on my Vauxhall Astra Mk5, so far I've bought new wheels, performance exhaust system, tinted windows and I have few more things planned for it. I honestly think it's time you start modifying your golf since you've had it for 2 years
@@LukeBudd modifying a car isn't that expensive mate, my exhaust setup was £75 which included the centre pipe and backbox and I saved more money on labour by fitting on myself

gotta 2000 058 block mk4 1.8t - trying to get it to around 200-225hp without a sh*t ton of hardware... any tips?

My mk4 golf wastes so much gas I don’t know why Anyone can tell me why?
The 1.8t AMB heads on the b6 a4’s crack. Stay away from them like the plague

Thoughts on getting a mk4 golf for a first car ? It would be a 2.0 tdi ?
1.9 - many different engines ranging from SDI (67hp) to TDI (up to 150hp). MK5 was 2.0 diesel...
Don't be late on maintenance items. Diesels don't like that

Happy u went back to the mk4s😉
J’ai elle a 180 hp
Is the 1.8l t 180hp or is their 2 1.8l models? How do you tell the different
There's two 1.8t versions;
1. 1.8T with 150BHP
2. 1.8T with 180BHP (far rarer to find!)
also very tricky to tell the difference if i'm honest!
