I've got a midnight blue (purple-ish) telecaster with a sparkle in the finish. It's AMAZING! I have my favourite guitarists like Frusciante and JM. But Pete, you inspire me to pick up the guitar more than anyone! Love this video and you really were meant to have this guitar, it's a brilliant story. Love you Pete, Andertons videos are 100 times better with you on board the team and we are blessed to see you play/test all these guitars and gear. Thank you so much for being amazing and inspiring me and so many others to play and try be the best player I can be. And for all the little tips you give us all along the way. Thanks man!
I absolutely love that Andertons made these guitars accessible for everyone, instead of just saying you can only have an expensive custom shop or nothing. The wonderful people of Andertons are true musicians.
I started playing guitar around 5 months ago, and had my heart set on a purple Schecter for my first electric. My friend who inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place told me no - don’t spend so much on your first guitar, so together we looked at what was available. Purple and orange have always been my colours, so I knew the guitar had to be purple, that was my only requirement. We found the purple 60’s vibes squires you guys had, and as soon as I saw it, I fell in love. Since getting it, I’ve had the pickguard swapped out for a psychadelic purple/orange custom one, and even though it’s my first guitar, I hear what you’re saying about having a guitar that you connect with. It feels like it could only be my guitar, and because of that I’m inspired every day to pick it up and play it. So, thankyou, Pete, for being the reason why I have my perfect purple guitar - even though I have notoriously bad GAS, I haven’t had any inclination to get anything else, how can you improve on perfection?
The classic vibes are such good guitars, with a few mods they can last you a lifetime. I've got both the 50s tele and strat, bought them a few years back and still love them both

If your entourage is that nice to you, cares about you and gets you your absolute dream guitar BEHIND your back, then you are truly a lovely human being to be around, Pete! So glad you are part of the Anderton‘s team. You add so much to the videos and I‘m sure also behind the scenes.
I’m very fortunate to own one of the custom shop copies of Pete’s Telecaster, and it’s easily my favourite guitar. It plays and sounds fantastic. I can only dream of playing as well as Pete, but I have a guitar that’s a pleasure to play every day, and inspires me to keep improving. Thanks Andersons for making this wonderful unique spec available!
For all the lefties out there I would like to offer a sincere thank you. We are typically forgotten by many guitar makers as unimportant when all they need to do is make limited runs like you are doing. Once again, thanks to Danish Pete for thinking of us
Pete, you and the rest of the Andertons crew inspired me to pickup the guitar after 10 years of being away from it. The limited runs are great and I’m happy to say I’ve purchased a few over the years. Thank you for all the great content. You guys are an inspiration to so many of us across the world.
Something I appreciate about Andertons videos and the purple tele is how genuinely you seem to like it, I watched a few videos where a guest comes over and you guys go "no wait, you gotta try this thing"
Laughing & crying at the same time at your birthday story Pete! So happy that you are doing something that you love and are so good at - I’ve been trying to learn for many years, but just don’t seem to have your natural ‘knack’ 😢. Keep on doing that thing you do man.
Lee and Pete sre the heart and sole of Andertons. My 2003 blond Telecaster Affinity is my soul in music. Over 200 recordings so far. I wore out the frets twice. Picked up a Fender licenced Might Mite tele neck. Exactly the same neck and frets. I'll need a re-fret soon. I looked at 3 Fenders that day in 2003. They just could not match the Squire for bold Tele sound. My other 50+ guitars are terrific, but this tele just speaks. Thanks for the love story. And thank Lee for all of us! 🧡
When the video announcing the arrival of the Classic Vibe Purple Teles came out, I felt obliged to do a 'What, no lefties' comment (it's at the top of the comments) Imagine my surprise when I had a reply!!!! 😳 Even more that you'd ordered a stack of lefties. I preordered (then cancelled when they were late, but knew I'd end up getting one, if only to support Andertons for doing something for lefties) It came yesterday, very cool, good weight, very pleased. (My wife thinks it's hideous 🤣) Every time I look it I'm reminded of this story! Awesome to see your enthusiasm and joy with it Pete. Kudos.
Telecasters can be so underrated, there's something special about a great Tele the way it will ring when played acoustically, the feel of the neck and just a pure slab of ash which will absorb and spread out those vibes evenly and rounded. Even Les Paul diehards if you play enough Tele's you will find one that will be hard to walk away from then you will know! Great video as always. 😊
I have the purple mischief maker from Andertons, and it's by faaar my favorite guitar to play. I've had it for a little over a year now. Came perfect out of the box, in tune and everything. Set up, intonation were perfect for my liking.
One thing i love on the Anderton's vids is you guys aren't just selling the gear. Your involved with your audience and the gear and present it in a way that we know to love.
I really like these Andertons videos since the time when Pete has joined with Lee doing these product demos. Pete is such a nice and positive spirit guy! So keep on rocking and sending these marvellous videos! Petes brillant playing is often demonstrating what the product will show case in most of us guitar nerds.
I'm old enough to be your father and I have gotten to like your playing very much. It is always so tasteful and never sacrifices taste and melodicy for speed. Keep up the great playing.
Nice to hear the story Pete. I've got my purple Squier classic vibe telecaster that I bought from Andertons at a local guitar builders at the moment (MAL guitars in Shropshire). I'm having a flamed roasted maple neck with ebony board built for it, swapping out the hardware for Nickel and have bought a set of your Montys pickups from Andertons to go in it. My daughter Frankie loves purple and this will become her Frankiecaster . It's going to be a beauty!
That sounds great, but it sounds like you're replacing everything apart from the body, which leaves you with a very inexpensive body, but a lot of money spent on everything else - I think you might as well spend extra on the body too - I'd love to hear if you have a reason for doing this.
@@Civilian2.0 simple answer is Andertons and Fender nailed the colour on the guitar, she loves it and so do I. I’ve had her name engraved on the neck plate too. It will be a quality guitar when it’s finished, we’re excited to see how it turns out. And don’t get me wrong, it was great when it came out of the box, we just wanted to build it to be more personal 😊
@@Joe_SG That's a brilliant story, and , yeah , spraying a guitar that colour would a real pain! I didn't mean any offence, I hope the guitar turns out great.
I am riveted by your take on everything guitar. Pete, you are not only a great guitarist, but a great and unique humorist. I already feel better about my reliced Toyota Corolla. You are not only a guitar expert but you are also the entertainment, which is why I watch.
You’re a wonderful guy Pete and a wonderful player. I don’t know how many tasty licks I’ve stolen from you, but u have an incredible feel and character to your playing that is just as commendable an unreplicatable. Thanks for all your work with Andertons 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I had a same experience with a partscaster strat i bought at my local second hand music shop (where I work as a setup guy/luthier now) a VERY worn reliced fiesta red strat with a custom shop v neck and texas special pickups in it. Bought it for about 450 euros. I was pretty broke at the time so I borrowed the money from my mom who knew i really had to get it, and so i did. It plays most other guitars out of the water, it's got such a charm and feel about it... Plus it has a Fender branded bottle opener on it! I've been playing it for years. Huge thanks to my mom for the help at the time.
Pete talk about a kid in a lolly shop top shelf stuff here. We are so happy to see you on the tube. Pete and the Purple Telly and of course that talent. Cheers from Australia.
Hey Pete! I am in Canada and one of our main music stores is Long and McQuade and they currently sell a Squier Classic Vibe FSR Purple telecaster that looks just like the O.G. tele minus all of the relicing. Your guitar is a Global Phenomenon! be proud but also, one of your fellow countrymen has had a purple drum kit for a long time as well. Ever hear of Lars Ulrich from a little band called Metallica?..lol.maybe it's a Danish thing but purple is a badass color!
This "surprise" factor when you finally got it adds even more value to this instrument. Unreal player & guitar combo! I think, that this Tele changed guitar world a bit, not only with the purple stuff but twisted tele neck and nocaster brigde are now a gold standard for great tone.
I remember you telling the story of that guitar years ago, and I’m right there with ya, purple teles just have a super unique and cool vibe. And because of you and that guitar, I bought a purple MiM roadworn tele and it’s my favorite guitar of all time
It really does happen. I had been pining after a PRS S2 Vela for years but couldn't afford it. As soon as I could, I bought one sight unseen from Sweetwater. It is hands down my favorite guitar I've ever owned or played. Out of the box it was perfect. It had only been built a few weeks before shipping to me. Its just a very musical, great sounding guitar.
Man, I resonated with this story so much... I passed on a used tele style G&L. Couldn't stop thinking about it, but I'd made my peace. Of course, it was returned a month later at the exact moment I was just casually jamming at my local GC. Such a sign! I was not going to let it go again! Also, the color thing, I get it! I wasn't looking for a tobacco sunburst with tortoise pickguard.😊
I passed on a used Vintera strat recently. It was the smoothest and easiest playing guitar I've ever felt. I swear if I hovered my fingers above the strings it would fret the notes. Lol. But the idiot snobbery in me at the time wanted an American strat so I passed. Went back to get it a week later and it was gone. Lesson learned for sure.
@@joebob344 I must confess the G&L I got is Indonesian! BUT, very similar in quality to my MIM strat... plus it has some cool pickups! Feel us everything, electronics can be upgraded 😣
Love this Pete . I have had a similar expierence with a couple basses over the years . I can tell even over the internet ,that thing is great .Not to mention how you can tell when A player is playing his #1 that he has truly connected with . Yes would love more of this style of video .Thanks man .
I’ve been watching the Andersons videos since Chappers first said he was going to be working with them so I’m very familiar with the story of Pete’s purple Tele but always love hearing it and hearing about it. What a magical instrument! Definitely keep these What is it About… videos coming please!
Thanks for sharing this Pete. I ordered a purple Squire Tele from Anderton's and had your signature pickups put in. You and Lee were kind enough to sign the headstock for me. I really enjoy playing it and thank you for inspiring me and helping me learn. Peace.
Instant guitar 🎸 connection! Now that’s the kind of musical gratification we can all live with! I mean, think of the search time saved. Everyone else can only hope they have the same experience some day soon.
I've been waiting for this video for so long. This guitar is truly iconic and the man who owns it is truly an immaculate player. Would truly love to jam sometime.
Amazing that kinda chokes me up my woman did the same by surprising me with a prs I eyed with p90s. I drove her mad talking about it so her and my 3 children got it for me on Father's day. I'll never sell it it's just that much more special now . Awesome brother great story
Very fun story! I just received my purple Bass VI from y'all -- it is really fun to hear this background on the color. Soon as I opened the box, my wife named is "Nelson," after Prince Rogers Nelson. Yeah, we are Prince household! Thanks for all you do!
This intro song really helped me, as it was the first one I learned to record layered tracks on my new looper pedal. Thanks a lot for the inspiration Pete, you rock!
I believe in the ownership of many guitar's but with that one there , and there are three ? I say dont seek the others out and let others enjoy them . Truly a wonderful guitar .
Much respect to Rob as a man (save for the unfortunate dreads era lol), but Pete’s musical sensibilities speak to me infinitely more. Nice to come back to the Andertons channel after years of avoiding their guitar videos to find the old mesa boogie demo guy whipping out gorgeous playing every video.
I have a small guitar shop in my home. I found just the right body and neck to build 2 of these, I had the hardware. Then the pups... I called Fender twice, and talked to ~3 people each time. They would not sell me just a neck 'Twisted Tele' pup, no matter who I talked to!! I did manage to buy 2 '51 'No-caster' pups though. I ended up just buying the 2 Custom Shop Twisted Tele sets. I'll just use the bridge pups on a different project. The bodies are in the dryer, won't be long. 8) --gary
No doubt it's a great guitar but I feel like a large amount of the magic is that it's being played by a professional guitarist through really expensive pedals into really high end amps turned up louder than most of us are able to play in a non-band situation
He’s used this guitar to demo countless budget level items of gear, digital modelling through a sound desk etc. it always sounds great. Gear be damned, it’s 100% the player. Tone is in the fingers.
Ha! Yeah ld still sound like me!! But pick up 5 different guitars & one will stand out from ur pov...it'll ring different or wotever, but there'll be something you like about it.
That last outro playing was swanky to the max, damn, saved to my favorites just for that! Thx Pete keeping it to play around with, I mean smoooooth, I closed my eyes and air guitared it, now I'm running up to the rig to start jamming with you! ✌️ ☮️ cheers 🍻 Rye
I recently found MY Tele, and I completely relate to how you felt when you picked it up for the first time. It was just RIGHT. In my case, it’s a ‘96 USA Standard in ‘Vintage White’ (it’s yellow). The feel, the tone, the twang, it’s everything I ever wanted in a telecaster.
Those Squiers with Gold pickguard look incredible. My guitar was an Ultra Tele in Texas Tea. Came in the store that day and I played it clean through an AC15 for hours. Got lucky and picked up that exact one two months later for Christmas and never looked back. I love my SG, Nashville Tele, and my Ibanez’s…but this guitar is effortless and never leaving. If you find that ONE…start making deals if you have to. It’s worth it.
Went cheap and overseas very recently and picked up a lefty purple Danish Pete CV50 from Andertons....had to replace the first fret (too low)....but with brass saddles and Lollar Special T's....what a beautiful beast in tone and looks.
I’ve been watching these videos for years and had heard the purple Tele story before and thought I knew everything about it. However, this video has made me realise I’d never heard Pete tell it in his own words. Certainly not in this level of detail. Great idea and looking forward to more
Pete, had a similar experience. My bass player kept telling me I should put down the hard tail strat and play a tele. Went into a store and picked up a random MIM standard cream color with a maple neck. Love at first hold. did not plug it in or tune it just held it like a baby. 2 different sales guys tried to take it from me to ring it up - and I was told I growled at them ( I am a large person, they backed off) the third salesman came up slowly and asked if he could just take the tag. I could not speak but let him. 25 years later and with many mods it is still my favorite guitar and my voice.
Enjoyable video. I'm sure a lot of people have a story with their favourite guitar. Mine is also a custom shop '50s telecaster with a nocaster in the bridge and twisted tele in the neck, not that I knew that when I bought it. I went to Peach Guitars in November 2009 to try out some teles. I already had a 1982 Japanese Squier JV, but it didn't really sound like the tele sound I like from my favourite Tele players. I wanted a butterscotch blonde 'nocaster', but tried that one and a few others. The best one by far was a Copper '52 Tele with '56 U shaped neck. The Broadcaster neck was too round and this one was perfect. It sounded amazing, was effortless to play and was very light (6.5lb) and was the cheapest custom shop Tele in the shop. I neither had the intention nor the money to buy a guitar when I went into the shop (especially having bought a custom shop Strat the month before) but I couldn't leave without it and put it on the credit card! I still have it and it's still my go to guitar for recording. Like Pete's, it is a relic and also like Pete, I bought it for how it played, not how it looks. A relic is just another finish option. After years of gigging, it's looking a lot more worn, but still plays great.
Spot on about where a relicked guitar comes in handy is that it's been "pre-disastered". One does play differently when you're trying to keep it pristine. I had an acquaintance who worked in the field with his truck. He finally got a new truck and the first thing he did was take a sledgehammer and put a dent in the box. "Now I ain't gotta worry about it. It's done already."
The first Tele I ever played had this big, uncomfortable neck and I steered away from Teles for a long time until one day somebody local was selling a knock off Les Paul, an amp, and a Tele and, just like you, when I picked up the Tele it was an instant YEAH ! The neck was perfect (for me) and the color (turquoise ?), and the sound, etc. It's the guitar I've had the longest and it's my my No. 1. BTW, I enjoyed the video of your Tele and you're tasty playing !
In a room FULL of guitars, a purple 50's road worn tele SCREAMED at me...I knew that split second that we would be together...it has a single ply parchment pickguard that is slightly warped...it is MAGICAL!!! I have at least 23 other guitars, this one would be one of the last to go...
This is the first time I’ve heard a valid argument in favor of relic’ing. I have a high end Strat and a Tele that I’m careful with and a beautiful Squier Tele that was much less expensive and I play the Squier all the time. I will reconsider my avoidance of relics in the future. Thanks Pete!
Very Special review. After following you for several Years it’s amazing the impact. I’m back east and was out for a jog Passed a house with several doors and shutters that were purple. The first thing that came to mind was your reviews with the Captain about the purple Telecaster! …. I now have both the Mexican purple Telecaster and Strat ….thanks:)!
Mate that's so true, lve had (& still have) LPs, Dots, a Gretsch... I was in a shop 3yrs back & picked up a maple necked Tele, never played one in my life & bang!! I'm hooked!
My go to tele is actually a 94 Korean made Squier that I refinished in nitro, has a chunky maple neck and just feels amazing, I also own a 74 Tele Custom but the Squier blows it out of the water for some reason, just chimes so perfectly and is so comfortable
Lovely insight...great story Pete. Importantly it has made me pick up my much neglected Tele again to explore it's greatness. Perhaps I will fall in love with Tele's all over again.
Amazing Telecaster and incredible story! I only discovered this channel a few months ago and I love the content - everyone on it seems super friendly and passionate about music. Keep up the great work, Pete!
I got mine Pete. Someone brought me a classic vibe 69 telecaster for repair, there was no sound so I played it acoustically for a couple of days before fixing it and couldn't put it down. I eventually talked the guy into selling it to me and its still my no1 .
Session guy Michael Thompson loves purple, too. Every year his wife would buy him a new purple guitar (I think for Christmas) and it was always exciting to see what he got. He even drove a purple BMW! Congratulations on getting your guitar. Great story!
I'm a purple guy. I have a purple Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod 6120. It's a spectacular guitar. I also own tons of other purple shiz. Purple is the best.
First time I saw your tele I thought, "finally some uniqueness in a custom shop." Usually are cool but the same finishes over and over. You guitar sounds amazing too. Nice bday present, I just turned that aforementioned age on Thursday, all I got was a burger. Oh well. Keep playing Pete!
The purple tele is just so versatile. The twisted tele neck pickup is amazing. I have the DP51s in a tele, and they are such a great set. Makes the tele a do everything guitar.
I'll say Pete's purple tele sounds great because Pete loves playing it.

That intro was just showing off. No wonder you always look so happy. Excellent. Thanks
My wife bought me a Purple classic Vibe from Andertons last year for my 40th Birthday . I actually wish there were more things available in purple.
I remember you telling the story of that guitar years ago, and I’m right there with ya, purple teles just have a super unique and cool vibe. And because of you and that guitar, I bought a purple MiM roadworn tele and it’s my favorite guitar of all time
The world NEEEEEEDS more purple guitars!
There's a very special relationship between a player and a truly fine instrument.
“The guitar chooses the player.”
As time goes on, I believe this more and more.
As the marketing man says. That's how I turn a blind eye to my GAS.
Not a lot to say, other than the obvious. Inspirational example of soul and magic....all in the same moment. Thanks from all.......to Mr Pete.
Love Teles, purple and Anderton’s. What’s no to like? Pete, you’re an awesome player!
Sounds amazing in Pete's hands and what a wide range of tones he gets.
It’s always a great story and I still enjoy hearing it again. Nice one Pete!
That was mega of Lee to organise that for you as well as your wife. Yeah your purple tele is an icon now haha.
I believe in the ownership of many guitar's but with that one there , and there are three ? I say dont seek the others out and let others enjoy them . Truly a wonderful guitar .
I have a pelham blue nashville telecaster and i love it! this purple telecaster is amazing and thanks for sharing the story behind it!
Pete, the tele is indeed cool, but it’s you man that makes it really cool 🤙
8) --gary
I wanted a purple Tele from the moment I saw yours. Lucky for me, I managed to buy one of the Road Worn models a month or so ago. And it's epic.
It's one of the best looking guitars I've ever seen. Probably the best telecaster I've ever seen.
It truly has something special with a special musician no doubt
Perfect timing since I got my Purple Tele this week.
No doubt it's a great guitar but I feel like a large amount of the magic is that it's being played by a professional guitarist through really expensive pedals into really high end amps turned up louder than most of us are able to play in a non-band situation
I’m pretty sure if I had a chance to play Pete’s guitar, I would sound as crappy as ever :)
He’s used this guitar to demo countless budget level items of gear, digital modelling through a sound desk etc. it always sounds great. Gear be damned, it’s 100% the player. Tone is in the fingers.
@@Lagmire Tone is in the balls
Ha! Yeah ld still sound like me!!
But pick up 5 different guitars & one will stand out from ur pov...it'll ring different or wotever, but there'll be something you like about it.
@@GormGear youre thinking of pee
I have a 56 CS Strat that is like that. Everyone who plays it, loves it.
Found mine 20 years ago. It's a Japanese Fender '69 Thinline from '89. Pickups were swapped for Rio Grandes. It's amazing. It can do anything.
Love this story!!!! So glad you ended up with your dream guitar!
Just something about purple Telecaster just beautiful
That intro was great. I could watch Pete play with himself all day.
Love that!
That first feel and knowing...I get it. It's what I felt the first time I picked up my favorite Taylor T5z
OMG I can't believe it's been that long since Pete got that tele. I remember at the time it first premiered on this channel
I love stories like this. Good idea to tell it, and nicely done as well. Thanks for this one!
You really do love her. Congratulations!
This is one of my favorite videos, even though I already knew the story from previous videos.
Very Special review. After following you for several Years it’s amazing the impact. I’m back east and was out for a jog
Passed a house with several doors and shutters that were purple. The first thing that came to mind was your reviews with the Captain about the purple Telecaster! …. I now have both the Mexican purple Telecaster and Strat ….thanks:)!
So great to bond so tightly with a guitar. And when the “right” tele is in your hands, it’s over. You become a tele guy.
Mate that's so true, lve had (& still have) LPs, Dots, a Gretsch... I was in a shop 3yrs back & picked up a maple necked Tele, never played one in my life & bang!! I'm hooked!
This. I’d Awesome. I finally get to know the story behind this famous purple guitar !! GOTTA say it looks Royal Blue on the Tele!!
Pete is just such a good player which adds to the purple tele.
My Dad was lucky enough to play on Pete's purple tele. Anderton's knew him well, RIP JS
Get Outta Here ... Pete ! Your soul and feelings are something special .
Such a great story, Pete. You have become a pillar of the Anderton’s channel and the UA-cam guitar community. Rock on! 🤘💟
Lovely story and what a nice guy Pete seems to be :)
You just make looping look so effortless
Pete is brilliant and this post is such a wonderful story and explanation about his Tele. Great 👍
The purple tele is just so versatile. The twisted tele neck pickup is amazing. I have the DP51s in a tele, and they are such a great set. Makes the tele a do everything guitar.
