Good Video, I once reseeded a 1 acre patch of field by hands, as in spreading the seed by hand, it looked good when the seed grew a bit, Strange how we seem to broadcast grass seed a lot in the UK, but in the US they tend to drill it, it does not look great to me growing in lines.
Robert S I agree and for good reason, grass needs light to germinate, at least the type of grass we grow in the uk does. When you sow it the idea is to just tickle into the soil more so that there is good contact for the seed in the soil. If we were to direct sow the type of grass we grow it would have to be put in so shallow it's hardly worth the cost.
Good the weather seems to be holding for you Richard...poor spreader design, patchy spread! Need an auger and boom spreader, therefore wind wouldn't blow the lime away! Seed bed looking good👌😎
I wouldn’t be as critical of the machine, the lime in its nature is dropping off the moving floor onto the spinners in lumps causing the spread to look uneven. If that was free flowing fertiliser there would be no issue. In fact with so few moving parts in my opinion it is a very well designed machine and more reliable as a result in a corrosive environment. Farming as you know is not an exact science but us farmers do strive for perfection 🚜🐄👍
It is a lot of work for a grass reseed. We just spay off, correct PH, P & K if necessary, go over it with the flail topper to take down any vegetation and direct drill. The topsoil stays at the the top to benefit the shallow roots of the grass and no carbon release from ploughing.
I believe thats because its ex sugar factory...The factory uses it for filtration of the water that washes the beet.Maybe someone can correct me on that ?
The spread looks a bit like the spreading they do on roads when its below 0c to stop ice forming . Must cost a fortune to have contractors come do jobs on your farm . For all that wind your getting Richard I suggest Rennie tablets . Stay safe and Crack on .
farmer outstanding in his field.
John was not impressed with the camera 🤣
That's a great camera zooms along way, the cows are going to enjoy this reseed👍

i agree i prefer the broadcast method. I've had grass seed drilled and you could see the lines for years

You are doing a nice job of the field
Great action shots of the spreader. What are all the tyre marks over it again at the end? 17.45
Educational as ever
How often do you put lime on your fields and how wide did it get spread across the field on each pass
Enjoyed Thanks
Some of our lime got blown about 700 or 800m this year!

Thats usually the way its done in Ireland nowadays too. Bet this way has cost Rich a bloody fortune 😂
Hello John!, Nice T7 👍👍👍
💓Wow it looks like sand that’s being spread it’s really interesting to watch💓thx💓
That's smallest lime spreader I have seen. Great video though Funkster!
That's very diffrent lime to what we use here in New Zealand that looks more like sand what we have he is completely white and very dusty
That's what I was thinking. Maybe it's a blend of other materials.
