I don't think I've ever seen Terran played that well against a Zerg playing optimal starcraft. That game three especially, Clem really did put on a show.
@@growtocycle6992 Different matche up* and Clem managed to beat Maru 2 times last year (1 bo5 and 1 bo3, and once in an offline event..), and as Clem said, his main goal in Korea was to train his TVT. So he could have destroyed Maru as well.
@@chensel65 I would not say it came as a shocker considering he 3:0 Serral in the same tourney already, but yes the level of play clem showed in this tournament in general was insanely shocking.. Crazy to realise that even after all these years we still get new talent that even outreaches the greatest of the greatest. I hope he can keep this level of play for years to come, because I would love to see him enter the goat debate eventually.
Clem optimizing his APM along in addition to it being quite high already shows results. Talk about game balance all you want, Clem was microing several fights at once. Unbelievable skill you can see it in his face, the intense focus that guy has, truly amazing.
That’s the problem though. When Terran is played to this level (Clem is unbelievably good), the other races just cannot really do anything. The skill potential of MMM and ghosts is too high that in the right hands, it renders Terran overpowered, but only if the Terran is good enough
@@TheBigEmstos Agreed basically... The Terran skill ceiling is higher than the other two races due to the higher movement speed, the faster fire rates and the general strength of individual units. Clem is just the best Terran right now and the only one who has reached the point where his skill ceiling is higher than the maximum potential of the other races. Meaning that unless he's caught blindsided while playing at that level its pretty much impossible for him to lose to a non-terran.
@@keizan5132 Okay, let me specify ranged units that run faster than any other while under stim while most of them also have an extremely fast firing speed allowing for even more micro. And I was also meaning the maneuverability of medivacs aswell for reference which is possibly a bigger part of the higher skill ceiling since they are the fastest transport with their boost plus are massed more and help heal. But I have no qualms with the healing or boost since all transports are unique.
@@keizan5132 It's because Banelings were designed as the 'counter' to marines. Except... They are melee range and Blizzard clearly didn't expect players to get good enough to target fire them down. Especially since their HP was nerfed
Hero crushed the entire lower bracket (2-0, 2-0, 2-0, 3-1). He seemed unstoppable. Serral crushed the Korean Zerg final boss Dark by 4-0 (at this point Serral also seemed untouchable). Serral was at the peak of his art. Hero was at his best's. Maybe Hero could beat Serral, who knows... In the end the real big boss revealed himself, Clem beat both of them (3-0, 4-0 and 5-0). The Final was not the result of chance or luck, Clem is simply the new King of SC2.
it was pure skill but haters will still say balance and ignore the fact that Maru was in this tournament and got his ass dominated by Serral. another thing, this tournament has A LOT OF TERRAN players who joined but ONLY CLEM manages to get through ----- but haters will still say its balance lol
@@carlosvaldez3093 Nah. Clem is a beast! He plays near perfect! I cant even imagine something he isnt doing right. But the thing is... The same goes for Serral. You cant say, with a straight face, that Serral is a bad player. Hell, Serral could have had a bad day that day. But no, i think both players are amazing and legends in SC2. And i will even admit that Clem is better than Serral. He clearly is. But i think that the races have different ceilings. Terran has more to play with than Zerg, or protoss for that matter. A Terran can be anywhere, any time, with anything. They heal their units, they are the most cost efficient ever. And MULES? 5 workers ish per mule. Which late game is an unlimited resource. Zerg cant keep up with this, and neither can protoss. Terran has more cost effecient fights and a better economy, better harrasment, and a better defence at home. Would you rather have a tank or a queen defend your base? Through game 2-3 here, you can se Serral doing everything right. Vipers, infestors, banes are even hitting, splitting zerglings that get targeted by mines. Upgrades are kinda similar. But still, absolutely rolled. Yes, Clem is better. He showed that this match. But he is getting some drag help. BUT, a player needs to be good enough to utelize that help. Something Clem absolutely is.
I was watching this live with a bunch of people and we were all just like this game makes Terran feel so stupidly imba (it is not just this game but our own)
@@NecronIsGood correction, Clem is imba but not terrans. In the semi-final there were 2 zerg, 1 protoss and only 1 terran. And Serral was 13-1 agaisn't Maru .
@@NecronIsGood Terran created to give the feeling to the player that they are intelligent against others, you can counter almost everything with 50 mineral costed marines. GG right?
Not only did Serral roll over for Clem 8 games in a row, he also took out Dark. Not saying Dark would have beaten Clem at his best like this, but he did 3-0 him just a few weeks ago. Clem's play was insane though, GG champ.
In wht tournament? I'd bet it wasn't nearly as important. He was clearly saving himself for this one. Serral was 3-0ed by Neeb JUST BEFORE his glorious run at Blizzcon in 2018, happens all the time. It means nothing.
@@panner11 As far as I can tell, Clem only played Classic, Hero, Reynor and Serral (twice) in this tournament. Dark wasn't in the same group as him, and got (as mentionned) knocked out by Serral in semi-final.
@@TheHalogen131 That's the best part. I naturally thought it was just an exercise in "see how fast I can click", but Clem gradually made it obvious that when he's doing something, it's because it's not pointless. Christ, I've thought for a while Gumiho might be catching up to him a bit in micro, but Clem in top form is just disrespectful.
The longer Clem's hair is, the better he plays. Is he a saiyan? It was truly the highest level terran gameplay I've ever seen. Keep going kid, you'll go into the history books if you keep playing like this. Only Reynor was somewhat able to cope with Clem's speed and took a couple maps from him, otherwise it was as one-sided as it could get
@@beyondthedetailsIt's true. Nobody can take away that he was the GOAT until this game. He's still the best Zerg, but Clem is at an all time best again.
@@beyondthedetails serrall just can't practice enough right now and thats fine. Once he's very familiar with that his opponents are doing recentley he will be fine but he just needs to be more aware of the current strategies for people like clem
Well yeah. Protoss have exactly 2 players that could get to the finals, but one of them doesn't play offline events... That kinda lowers the chances despite herO wiping the floor with everyone except Clem the whole tournament.
Probably cuz they finally realized how OP Terran truly is, 8-0 against Serral is ridiculous. What’s the point playing any other race than Terran at this point?
Clem with Terran needs a nerf, his micro is insane. My only complaint is you never see clem do anything other than bio and still can't be stopped. It seems bio in his hands is nearly unstoppable if he is peaking. I'd like to see them fix it up a bit more. No shade clem deserved this win and I think he us so good he would be good at any comp
Terran is not OP. Observe how often Serral has destroyed Maru and other Terrans this year. Also Clem is not OP, he has just studied Serral better than anyone else in the history of the game. Note that Reynor took 2 games from Clem in a BO5, so he is not invincible. Clem came into this championship on the gamble that he would meet Serral at the end (which was a very reasonable gamble) and he knows how Serral plays better than anyone else in the game right now. And his strategy paid off massively.
I KNEW IT! Literally the world championship match between the goat and maybe the best current player and you couldn't stop yourself from talking about Dark.
Props to the all that involved in making sc2 great in the last few years. Thanks riyadh for hosting sc2 and all the caster and also players that participate in the EWC tournament.
I'm 16 but I've been playing for less than a year so I don't think I'll ever get to those levels but thank you Winter for the opportunity to see these amazing games with the best caster ever
Reynor started quite young and become one of the youngest pro zerg player players. Is posible to become great from very young, bu most of them had some more experience before getting pro. You are pretty young so is possible you get at this level with serious dedication and maybe some couching. Of course, this kind of level require some talent, but that can bloom any day as long you are on this.
@@adminsaify And Clem had no strong terran in his road this tournament which are his absolute worst matchup. Having bad chemistry versus one specific player doesn't wash away all the previous achievements (else Maru would have never been in the goat talk). The goat in most sports (and esports) all had losses (sometimes crushing ones) during their career, it's not a title meaning "undefeated" it's a title for who impacted the game the most while being extremely successful. Clem has a long road ahead before be considered in the talk for the title, this is his start of it.
I am primarilly a WC3 player, but the title caught my attention. Wow. I obviously knew who Serral was, but I never heard of this player before. I think the last big series of Serral that I watched was Vs Maru, when Serral won pretty handily. The impression that I have here is that Serral got out-microed. Truly incredible control from this player. So many favorable trades. Zerg I guess the most RTS race in SC2(which makes it the most RTS race, period), so Clam played a very aggressive harrassment game and didn't allow Serral to unfold his game. WP by the winner!
People whine about zerg nerfs, it doesnt work when serral slaps all the top terrans around this tournament. Except for clem. Who destroys him completely. Just accept he was better that week. Im not fan of either, just objectively, when you lose 8 straight maps, its not a competition, its owning.
@@ProfKisuto serral had his problems trying to contain clem making ground units.... making corruptors costs money / larvas/ combat unit space (so less zerglings, hydras, less anything), if you do that at the wrong time it will for sure cost you the game..... but even if you kill some medivacs it could be not your victory, a zerg with a lot of corruptors but few gorund units will lose to a terran with a lot of bios even with no meds. The costant pressure clem made was mostly to not let zerg freely using the tools at his disposal. In the end, if the best zerg in the world didn't consider it i think we at least should think that he didn't "forgot" a unit, it just considered it not a viable solution. He is a human being and could be in the wrong obviously, but i can assume an obvious strategy like that, in the sooooo many games he played, he tried it and it wasn't worth it.
Ngl the winter sports coat casts are the premier UA-cam gaming casts. It’s disrespectful they don’t ask to him to cast for these tournaments. Best caster by far. Lowko is ok, but winter is the best
@@Great_Cambeno Winter is super entertaining but his insight into the game isn’t anywhere near on the same level as say Pig. Which is why Pig casts huge tourneys like this.
clem went 2 rax on every map that he could heavily delay the 3rd base, i dont think its a coincidence that those are the maps that serral went for roach pushes. serral does things that make sense and clem had the read on it. (is what it looks like from where i'm sitting!)
Honestly, I don't think he can. I think he's pretty close to the skill ceiling for Zerg it's just the Terran skill ceiling is higher so when both played to perfection Terran will almost always win its just Clem is the first Terran to approach the Terran skill ceiling.
@@displacedicon7643 The sad part is, I don't even think Clem is approaching the Terran skill ceiling. Only a literal computer AI programmed to micro each individual unit can achieve that, which is sadly outside the realm of possibility due to natural human limitations.
Kinda funny watching Serral win 5 of the last 7 premier tournaments which includes this loss, but people think the sky is falling and terran can't be beaten anymore.
You and PiG are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better casters than Tasteless and Artosis. I watched this first on the official channel with Artosis and tasteless commenting and they literally did ZERO in game commentary, just talking what serral must do to win/clem must do to win, how good they are and spend half of one game analyzing moves of the prior game and being completely clueless about what is going on, literally having moments like 'serral is finally stabilizing he should be stable now--->yeah he is dead in 15 more seconds'. I seriously hope they use you and PiG as casters in next championships, because you two are excellent real time commentators who actually call the game for whats going on, what the plan is, etc instead of just sounding like post game analysts and fanboys talking about how x is so good and y is so good etc.

I really wish Starcraft would make a comeback with it's esports scene. Watching old Blizzcons and seeing those stages just brings a tear to my eye. Hopefully the Esports World Cup is enough to revitalize it, even a little.
Idk, I've seen Serral play better. He made basically zero anti air to cripple the medivacs and didn't really did any split pushes or pincer attacks to break up Clem's army.
I haven't finished watching yet I just had to pause and comment and say you're the greatest caster...! "This message brought to you by Big Queen" You never fail to crack me up. Thank you for the great entertainment Winter!
Wtf incredible. It' already difficult to take a single game from Serral and he has defeated him 8-0 in this tournament. I've never seen noone left serral at 0 ever. Snipe should do no dmg against big creatures, its insane. They are so oppressive. And no I'm not playing SC 2 anymore, but each time you see them on the field its so clear.
Tbf I think its potentially a bigger problem like Terran bio as a whole. Faster units with range and healing, Terran does just straight up have a higher skill ceiling due to the faster fire rate and more micro able units opposed to both Protoss and Zerg. Which wasn't really a problem because no Terran had reached above the skill ceiling of the other races but I genuinely think that Clem is playing higher than the potential skill ceiling of the other races meaning as long as he doesn't get blindsided its quite possibly impossible for him to lose. Especially since as you've said units like Ghosts are just better in supply in every way to any unit in pretty much the game Especially against Zerg and non-Skytoss.
@@avepuella yea counter too much while not having any hard counters. Their hp is ridiculously high for a human in a skin tight stealth suit you literally see nothing else but ghosts in end game and they compliment the already insanely strong MM combo as well

@@mcmarkmarkson7115 Yeah, its a tough balancing act because its kinda a problem with the mobility and versatility of Terran bio. I almost want to say Medivacs need a pickup nerf (maybe 2 units every 0.5 seconds so it'd take 2 seconds to pick up a full medivac) and reduce health of ghosts by 10-20 hp so the micro is only changed a bit inside of actual fights while lowering the maneuverability of what already is some of the fastest units in sc2 when stimmed.
Clearly ghosts are OP and need to be gutted... maybe split the emp and snipe into 2 different units, or just remove one. A single unit (ghosts) counter the whole zerg race. They counter casters and all late game units...

Blizz will only touch the MMM when there are multiple terrans able to abuse it to the end like in these games. Until then they'll just resort to nerfing ghost so that there will be at least some end game options.

People whine about zerg nerfs, it doesnt work when serral slaps all the top terrans around this tournament. Except for clem. Who destroys him completely. Just accept he was better that week. Im not fan of either, just objectively, when you lose 8 straight maps, its not a competition, its owning.
Marines have to be the most cost per value / strength in the game. They are just too effective and versatile at every phase of the game.
Stalkers come close

@@ProfKisuto Corrupters can't shot down, marines and ghost will eat them alive. Serral tried with Hydras.
@@keizan5132 Maru can't keep it up the whole game. The only weakness terran has is that when they lose a decisive fight they cannot remax fast enough. But zerg can't force that. It's all up to terran making the huge mistake.
This is the first time I watch a video of yours, as I try to get back into starcraft. Good stuff, thanks!
Ghosts NEEED To Be Nerfed, just Spam Ghosts and Win kinda is just Boring No?
Apparently spamming ghost didn't work well for every other Terran, so ""maybe"" it's not enough.
@@Twiixq They can't get to that point. As long as you don't make any major mistake as a terran you'll win. The other terrans just are not able to do it. But if you can, the other races simply cannot win.
Two ghosts can kill two infestors in two seconds and four infestors in four seconds. It is just not exciting to watch.
Already saw that awesome game live, but comed back to watch it again with my favorite SC2 caster !!
What does serial have to do differently to win? Is he the best still? I’m new to sc2 but I’m a big fan of serral. Painful to see it end like this. Gg to Clem tho he is seriously insane
Nothing just because he lost doesn’t mean anything. This was a 50/50 game and could’ve went to either side of the coin in the toss. Clem just happened to get the right plays off at the right time. Name of the game.
Clem is insanely good. He seems to be in better form than Serral rn. Takes nothing away from Serral. The guy outperformed Clem at the last two tournaments, is the most winningest, consistent player in sc2. It's just how it goes sometimes. Honestly, making second place at the world championships despite being actively fulfilling military service is a hell of an accomplishment. Clem was just better this week.
Well, Clem has reached a whole new level. You heard it from Winter, this was by some margin the best performance and the highest level of SC2 ever achieved.
Stop doing roach all-ins.
Yeah, no one has any ideas. I'm at best a gold league zerg. Harstem might have a response to this question on his UA-cam channel.
.. And the Grand Finals is no exception.. Jimmy!!
- Man had us in the first half.. never change.
