Venice and the other Italian factions are badass! I find them really strong early game, and they can turn every settlement into a city for more income and still get pretty good quality troops from it. :)
I would do dirty things to get the Medieval 2 campaign style back for the next TW game. It's my favourite Total war game along with Rome 1, but I still find myself playing Shogun 2 often due to the graphics, wish we could get the best of both worlds.
M2TW and RTW are extremely fun. I really love them- they aren't particularly difficult, but the battles are epic, gratifying when you win, and extremely aggravating when you lose. It just feels good to command an army of 500 vs 1000 or more and absolutely destroy them.
I really liked this game except for a couple of things: 1.) pathfinding in city battles is shit 2.)cavalry charge bug is shit (charging with swords instead of lances) 3.) two handed weapons infantry sux 4.) pike infantry sux prety much but whatever
I mean it sorta makes sense for two handers to suck in most cases. My only real big problem is the way it uses population. In rome 1 you use pop for recruiting soldiers and you can also recruit say a bunch of peasants then you send them to a small settlement then you disband them they join the pop. So basically colonization.
Cav isn't bugged, you just need proper distancing and speed to properly use shock-cav. If you're charging from close range on rough terrain you won't get a proper lance-charge.
Attila the Fun well Wallachia is the faction I would have liked to have play as. Spain didn't exist either but that's that they decided to call the faction in this game.
Hammering this video out so quickly again is impressive dedication. Customer care FTW. Dying to see your next turn as Poland in the Grand Campaign hotseat too.
Oh, man. I wish I'd had internet back when I had medieval 2 and other total wars. I never really got to experience online play and just watching this guy and others makes me sad. Like, the ai wasn't hard once you learned the game. Fighting other players who are super skilled would be awesome.
Legend, I don't know if you know or care, but the reason that your reinforcements on a sally battle works is that in almost every battle situation, the battlefield is defined by the 9 tiles around the defending army (as in the defending army's tile and the 8 tiles surrounding it). In fact the only situation where the battlefield isn't centered on the defending army is the sally out battle, where despite technically being the attackers the city tile with the garrison army is the center of the square. Anyway, that's why the exploit works, because the AI essentially doesn't know that those battles are centered on the town so it checks the wrong tiles (the 8 tiles around the besieging army, not the 8 tiles around the settlement).
LegendofTotalWar I figured you could tell what was going on. I just thought I'd bring it up because it makes it clear that in Medieval 2 the AI can't "see" the reinforcements panel, it has to make decisions based on what armies it thinks will be in the battle, which is very different than the AI in recent games that clearly is playing with more information than it ought to have. Anyway, its a design gimmick that allows for an exploit, but it also shows the different philosophy behind the early games vs the recent ones (alongside other challenges to the AI like not having ladders appear out of thin air).
Again, I would recommend you check out the Europa Barbarorum 2. It had a new major release this month (version 2.2a) with tons of new units, historical reform scripts, music tracks, government building chains, area of recruitment, UI, loading screen quotes (that no SSD-user can read). They also released a unit browser that let's you see the availability on the map and hidden stats of units, compatible with all other mods and vanilla as well (I think).
Legend here is a challenge you could try out! Play Med 2 on hardest difficulty as the Holy Roman Empire! As soon as you start every faction you see you have to war with and you are only allowed a maximum of 10 lords with men no captains are allowed so Warhammer style of command also you can only hire mercenaries no recruiting is allowed from your own faction only mercenaries are allowed, you are allowed the starting units when you start the campaign Goodluck!
as soon as i saw you seige that first city I was sold. that shit was pro. you should make a video on building econemy and map stuff, battles im pretty good at but some times my eco goes so shit i just kill my lower class troops so theres less upkeep
Venice, a curious state that was at one point an outpost of the Eastern Roman Empire, later becoming an independent city state and growing in wealth and power to rival and surpass that of the ERE. Should be a fun campaign, they've a good range of units. :)
I agree with you entirely on the steam review thing. But the advantage to being allowed to review without download is you can report problems with the download to the community. By the way love your shit, keep it up :)
I have made venice champaign because i forgot to turn the short champaign button, but i have been enjoyed and now i hope i can see a good gameplay. Edit: wow i remember i have sended up the bowmen to right street hill at Durazzo in same way 22:37
what is your graphics card? I see that in your about you have hd 7800 series but which one exactly? I just want to know how similar our pcs are so I know a general idea of the fps I will get. I have a gtx 745 oem (4gbvram) i5-4460, 10gb RAM
Legend, what do you think of French unit rooster ind med2? you mentioned somewhere, that you think turks are the best. i think the frech are even better, they are very good at everything.
The one gripe about M2 compared to my favourite (Rome 1) is that the devs got a bit lazy. What I mean is all the regions are say, Rome region whereas in Rome 1 Rome is in Latium, etc. Also, there aren't as much variety in the voices. It's generic, eg all different heavy infantry just say "heavy infantry" when selected.. Small things, but they've always bugged me.
What is even worse is that in M2TW they threw away phalanx mechanic (pikes in M2TW are almost useless) and "population = soldiers". It was really great idea of R1TW that pops are actually counts as soldiers and vice versa.
At 9:45 what were you trying to do? You said something to the effect of 'I'll be dodgy, I'm going to rotate the campaign map'. I've watched 100's if not 1,000's of hours of your stuff and have no idea what you were talking about there?
lol yeah I can explain. I've been playing warhammer non stop for like a month and you get used to certain things. In warhammer you can rotate the camera on the campaign map. I was pressing q and e at the time to try rotate so I could get a better view. You can't do that in Medieval 2.
Do you think its possible for you consider to do a lets play of third age divide and conquer on very hard that maybe will give you a challenge alot of work went into the sub mod and there are loads interesting scripts that have been put in its much harder than third age
And you cannot just watch 30 minutes and then stop? No? No? no? Okay, why not cut the vids in to 5 minute videos so people who ahs even less time can watch them, and so you can spam videos like some youtubers do to squeeze cashout. No what legend does is perfect. Fuck that shitty small vid bs. Just stop the video....but thats just too hard for you guys you need legend to do it for you by cutting the vids up..no...having 60000 parts is just annoying.just stop the video after 30 min....not that hard.
Strange, I am the opposite. I want one big 2 hour episode. Can't seem to want to stop sometimes... o.O Especially the good ones like the Orc Campaign (both the Co-Op with smart donkey, and the this is total WAAARG!!!) Perhaps that may actually be a better thing to do for the Orc campaign, since it isn't pre-recorded or anything.
Rodvinsky It's just that I sometimes forget what he was doing when I pause and come back later, when it's a new episode he usually gives a recap of what happened last episode.
Hey, friendly reminder that they released this and og rome on ios!!! Its been since i was a little kid when i played total war games on pc and currently only on ps5. As ios medival tptal war gets me back in im really wanting a pc to try the new ones.
Very nice guide, thank you very much. Quick question, how are you getting your units so large? In the campaign I'm playing, the infantry units come in 75.
I'm planning on buying this game as my first Total war game tomorrow. Is this a wise choice? I heard M2 is considered the best one, and it is the timeperiod I'm most interested in... but how does it run on today's pc's? and is there still a strong multiplayer community. I'm either gonna buy this one, Napoleon or Rome II.
What do you mean by dread is good? I understand it that way that dread causes morale penalty for enemies, but from the other hand chivalry raises morale of your own troops. Does it have effects on management ability?
Is the mods for Medieval 2 total war only playable if you bought/installed the game it via steam? (I bought the complete edition with the Kingdoms expansion)
You are fighting in a battle and Legend is your general, there 50 enemies around and they want to kill you! So you run and heard Legends saying: LEGEND: COWARD! THEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE MORE FUCKED UP THAN IF YOU HAVE STAYED AND FIGHT THE 50 ENEMIES.
used the same strategy for the 1st few turns as shown here... cept instead of taking Zagreb, went and took Milan and Genoa. Got excommunicated.... oh well. but those were some good points to tackle early game.
i probaby had one of the most painful campaigns on very hard. I stared of good with a large army sweeping down the balkans rasing and occupying the filthy rebels settlements. i get into a scuffle with the byzantines who are allied with the papal states and the HRE. they all teamed up on me with armie after armie untill i only held durazzo. i was crying inside. then i finnaly got peace , but all the factions around be hate me and im in cripleing debt wiht no more rebel settlements around me. so i go and wage war on sicily, but they had norman knights and absouloutly thrashed me. the game ended on turn 56.
The One and Only as Venice it's all about that blitzkrieg - in the early game you can simply outproduce everyone and spam militia troops which are pretty powerful, especially Pavise Crossbowmen. Firstly, you need to secure your position in the West, by attacking Bologna and destroying or severely crippling Milan. Then build up your infrastructure, get fortresses and smash the Balkans.
Guys why are the armies so big? I have the steam version and for example my sprearmen are in groups of 75, not 150.. is it because of the steam version or am I doing something wrong?
Each unit at this video (and other I have seen) consists of 150 spearmen and 120 archers.. I play on steam and the armies consist of 75 spearmen and 60 archer. Why is this happening?
+Thanos Zoidis I'm confident that it is based on the unit size that is in the settings. Go check it out. They did this to you know, reduce lag and memory and stuff.
I know, but I've often found someone else might hire them during their turn if you don't get it. I've often seen units I wanted for the next turn, but when that turns arrive those units are sitting in another army.
Actually you can easily take Rhodes with C.Selvo, one archer and one militia unit with no casualities. The mercenaries make no difference. But yeah, it's annoying when the AI recruits all of them.
Could you tell in next videos what do you think about different factions in M2:TW (pros, cons, what playstyle they encourage etc.)? Or at least explain why did you pick Venice :) BTW: you're doing legendary quality content ;D
The spear militia have about 2x the bonus vs cavalry, and can form schiltrom. Overall the spear militia is preferable to town militia for any faction in every way except cost and upkeep.
Stef Dasca i see, this works on any diffikulty? i have tried to do it that way but on hard im useles, i get curbstomped by the egyptians and the polish... maby ill try again one day...
Legend, please play Hyrule Total War! It's a breeze to download and a really ambitious Medieval 2 mod. Flying units, magic...battle crabs...it's rad. And it would be cool seeing you play a mod that puts you out of your element a bit.
Medieval 2 = still the best TW game yet
i know im late but rome 1 is better
@Martin Septim i know im late but it is
@Martin Septim is is the best one
@Martin Septim
Why not both?
@Martin Septim
Yeah, I know. I love that game, even though I'm shit at it. I still try my best.
LOTW: Medieval 2 is the easiest total war game ever.
My Dumbass: Loses as Sicily on the 20th turn😭👌
Venice and the other Italian factions are badass! I find them really strong early game, and they can turn every settlement into a city for more income and still get pretty good quality troops from it. :)
Oh man. I wish Medieval 3 came out after Warhammer.
I would do dirty things to get the Medieval 2 campaign style back for the next TW game. It's my favourite Total war game along with Rome 1, but I still find myself playing Shogun 2 often due to the graphics, wish we could get the best of both worlds.
Med 2 remastered. Same everything, just with better graphics. That's the dream. Oh and maybe a better ai but that's asking a bit much of CA.
I'm a simple guy. I subbed when i heard you say Medieval 2 is your favorite Total War.
Hey Kai, how goes Warhammer 2 purgatory so far?
M2TW and RTW are extremely fun. I really love them- they aren't particularly difficult, but the battles are epic, gratifying when you win, and extremely aggravating when you lose. It just feels good to command an army of 500 vs 1000 or more and absolutely destroy them.

@@daytonasixty-eight1354 True, but those aren't in the main campaign.
finally something good and new on youtube
New?!
Romania is indeed great XD
I wish Romania had been a playable faction :(
+irvdante
Romania didn't exist, only smaller regional kingdoms did.
Attila the Fun well Wallachia is the faction I would have liked to have play as. Spain didn't exist either but that's that they decided to call the faction in this game.
16 years later and this game is still badass
Now this is the kind of wood that isn't a plank in my face and teeth scattered across the ground like dice as you so poetically put it
Hammering this video out so quickly again is impressive dedication. Customer care FTW.
Dying to see your next turn as Poland in the Grand Campaign hotseat too.
My first Total War game was Shogun 2. Out of the other two I own, Attila and Warhammer, Shogun 2 is still my favorite.
I am glad that Legend is playing a game that he enjoys.
Yeah, I love Shogun 2 too. This and Medieval are my favorite.
+Michał Zajch mine aswell,
you should try medieval 2
you should try medieval 2
I have a higher end PC and I still love slapping nations around in medieval 1. Medieval 2 is a close second for me.
Oh, man. I wish I'd had internet back when I had medieval 2 and other total wars. I never really got to experience online play and just watching this guy and others makes me sad. Like, the ai wasn't hard once you learned the game. Fighting other players who are super skilled would be awesome.
every time I come back I love this campaign more
Hearing you talk about how good medieval 2 is gets me rock hard mate.
Venice is my fav faction in vanilla and SS 6.4 man this is gonna be awesome
This is awesome legend, thanks! Pumped for this series
finally some good old medieval 2
Legend, I don't know if you know or care, but the reason that your

the AI essentially doesn't know that those battles are centered on the
town so it checks the wrong tiles (the 8 tiles around the besieging
army, not the 8 tiles around the settlement).
lol of course I know that. How else do I manage to make it work every single time.
Legend legend legend... Where do I even begin. We need more med 2 content in our face holes, why you no post?
Legend telling whiny fucks how it is during the Battle of Bologna. This is why I keep coming back...
It's so cool that I just finished my Venice campaign and now I can see what you plan to do and compare it to mine.
"Shut the fuck up or fuck off" sent me lmao, love all the M2TW content!
Keeping it real with real soldiers not total war hammer bullshit you deserve a medal for playing that war hammer vampire crap. Thanks legend
this guy sounded so angry the whole video
i love it
Again, I would recommend you check out the Europa Barbarorum 2. i installed medieval 2 again aftert seeing this :)
Legend here is a challenge you could try out!

LegendofTotalWar i did and i got owned
*allowed
Well even with allowed spelled like that its a better read than 95% of the rest of the internet
Battlez thanks for pointing that out, stupid phone with the auto correct!
pffff....want to make Legend ACTUALLY struggle a bit? dont attack anybody expect rebels and those of a different religion. Kappa :P
Oh my. Your sub count has soared. That's awesome. Happy for you man
as soon as i saw you seige that first city I was sold. that shit was pro. you should make a video on building econemy and map stuff, battles im pretty good at but some times my eco goes so shit i just kill my lower class troops so theres less upkeep
Venice, a curious state that was at one point an outpost of the Eastern Roman Empire, later becoming an independent city state and growing in wealth and power to rival and surpass that of the ERE. Should be a fun campaign, they've a good range of units. :)
Wow, I just started the Venice campaign last week. I sold Sofia to the Papal States to create a buffer between me and Hungary.
ty for the Medieval tw lp really enjoy theese
Lol, Legend probably said 'fuck it' and decided to do a Venice campaign after that brief comparison video.
I'm curious, what are your favourite M2TW mods, legend?
Mine is Bellum Crucis due to its scripts
25:40 "Eh. Whatever. Spies..."
3:51 XD Died laughing
Huge difference between content made for fun, and content made for mass profits.
I agree with you entirely on the steam review thing. But the advantage to being allowed to review without download is you can report problems with the download to the community. By the way love your shit, keep it up :)
Damn it Legend, you making me want to play a campaign with Venice even as I'm in the middle of a Milan campaign
Do a 360 and go Denmark
Keep up the great content!
Thank you... A Medieval 2 play through.
A very beautiful thing, don't you think?
Any chance u ever gonna play Shogun II? Anyones knows if he will?
Fourth crusade! On to the east richie for failed republic.
I have made venice champaign because i forgot to turn the short champaign button, but i have been enjoyed and now i hope i can see a good gameplay. Edit: wow i remember i have sended up the bowmen to right street hill at Durazzo in same way 22:37
what about a campaign with western unit overhaul mod and battle balance mod?
what is your graphics card? I see that in your about you have hd 7800 series but which one exactly? I just want to know how similar our pcs are so I know a general idea of the fps I will get. I have a gtx 745 oem (4gbvram) i5-4460, 10gb RAM
Is there any chance of you doing a a Byzantine campaign ??
Eventually.
Legend, what do you think of French unit rooster ind med2?
you mentioned somewhere, that you think turks are the best.
i think the frech are even better, they are very good at everything.
No horse archers, and they're fucking french.
The one gripe about M2 compared to my favourite (Rome 1) is that the devs got a bit lazy. Yes m2tw!!!
good, thank you for this campaign
Thanks for making this.. I've watched all your mtw2 campaigns but I don't care for the newer total wars.
I would give them a chance, but those SEGA business models hammer the nail in the coffin. Are these brand new luxury cars or what?
Mmm bologna
At 9:45 what were you trying to do? You said something to the effect of 'I'll be dodgy, I'm going to rotate the campaign map'. I've watched 100's if not 1,000's of hours of your stuff and have no idea what you were talking about there?
lol yeah I can explain. I've been playing warhammer non stop for like a month and you get used to certain things. In warhammer you can rotate the camera on the campaign map. I was pressing q and e at the time to try rotate so I could get a better view. You can't do that in Medieval 2.
Got it. Thanks
AND SO THE VENETIANS CAN GET DOWN TO BUSINESS!
Do you think its possible for you consider to do a lets play of third age divide and conquer on very hard that maybe will give you a challenge alot of work went into the sub mod and there are loads interesting scripts that have been put in its much harder than third age
I'd honestly rather have 2x 30 min videos instead of 1x 1hr video, that means I don't need to have 1 hour of free time to watch each episode.
Add it to watch later, it'll remember where you left off.
And you cannot just watch 30 minutes and then stop? No? No? no? Okay, why not cut the vids in to 5 minute videos so people who ahs even less time can watch them, and so you can spam videos like some youtubers do to squeeze cashout. No what legend does is perfect. Strange, I am the opposite. I want one big 2 hour episode. Can't seem to want to stop sometimes... o.O
Especially the good ones like the Orc Campaign (both the Co-Op with smart donkey, and the this is total WAAARG!!!)
Perhaps that may actually be a better thing to do for the Orc campaign, since it isn't pre-recorded or anything.
Just watch what you can, pause, and watch the rest later dude.
Rodvinsky
It's just that I sometimes forget what he was doing when I pause and come back later, when it's a new episode he usually gives a recap of what happened last episode.
Can someone explain castles to me? I have played a ton of Rome but this part of medieval still confuses me
Shane McNIff castles have different buildings, units and a different siege map
My favourite game of all time, I hope they make a third one
Hey, friendly reminder that they released this and og rome on ios!!! Its been since i was a little kid when i played total war games on pc and currently only on ps5. As ios medival tptal war gets me back in im really wanting a pc to try the new ones.
All their base are belong to us
Very nice guide, thank you very much. Quick question, how are you getting your units so large? In the campaign I'm playing, the infantry units come in 75.
BTW if you do an End Times Mod playthrough I'd like to see Ogre Kingdoms be done because it be an interesting contrast to your Stuntie playthrough.
Ogres are no joke, fuckin raped my chaos army
How can you have the flags above the troops? It's not working for me.
I'm planning on buying this game as my first Total war game tomorrow. Is this a wise choice? I heard M2 is considered the best one, and it is the timeperiod I'm most interested in... but how does it run on today's pc's? and is there still a strong multiplayer community. This one brother trust me. Runs great.
finaly new vanilla campaign. i wanted some stainless steel tho.
What do you mean by dread is good? I understand it that way that dread causes morale penalty for enemies, but from the other hand chivalry raises morale of your own troops. Does it have effects on management ability?
I believe that Dread helps keep public order in settlements, while Chivalry helps with town growth I'm pretty sure.
I like using one of the factions in the game, Usually Venice or the Byzantines, to create a New Roman empire, before expanding further.
What yor papal states unlock
Is the mods for Medieval 2 total war only playable if you bought/installed the game it via steam? (I bought the complete edition with the Kingdoms expansion)
You are fighting in a battle and Legend is your general, there 50 enemies around and they want to kill you! So you run and heard Legends saying:

favourite gaming youtuber :))
Guys why are the armies so big? I have the steam version and for example my sprearmen are in groups of 75, not 150.. is it because of the steam version or am I doing something wrong?
what do you mea

They did this to you know, reduce lag and memory and stuff.
Yup that was it.. I now feel kinds stupid :P Thanks mate!
What you already killed the Holy Roman Empire king or emperor
I see you are from Australia. How do you live around all those deadly creatures ?
Hi Legend!
Why do you hire the mercenaries one turn before the actual battle? It costs more for you.
I know, but I've often found someone else might hire them during their turn if you don't get it. I've often seen units I wanted for the next turn, but when that turns arrive those units are sitting in another army.
The AI actually recruits them if you play on H/HV difficulty lol.
Yeah I was used to play this game a lot on diff that wasn't very hard :D
Actually you can easily take Rhodes with C.Selvo, one archer and one militia unit with no casualities. The mercenaries make no difference. But yeah, it's annoying when the AI recruits all of them.
Yes I love this game!
i was waiting for a new medieval 2 camping :)) i loved the hre camping
Love venice campain!
Could you tell in next videos what do you think about different factions in M2:TW (pros, cons, what playstyle they encourage etc.)? Or at least explain why did you pick Venice :)
BTW: you're doing legendary quality content ;D
Legend's Generals Bodyguard have a lower life expectancy than Ethiopians.
YES VENICE IS MY FAVORITE FACTION!!
If this was me my general would've died 5 seconds into that brawl lol
Just a question, what's the difference between Italian militia and Italian spear militia?
Italian spear militia have slightly better defense I think
The spear millitia are stronger
The spear militia have about 2x the bonus vs cavalry, and can form schiltrom. Overall the spear militia is preferable to town militia for any faction in every way except cost and upkeep.
i hope you will do a byzantine run in this game, i cant vin with those... it would be cool to see a profesional do it :)
Build in first 10 turns all economic buildings possible and rush conquering rebels
then attack Turks,Hungary&Venice(in this order)
Stef Dasca i see, this works on any diffikulty? i have tried to do it that way but on hard im useles, i get curbstomped by the egyptians and the polish... maby ill try again one day...
I made this on Vh/Vh by turn 40
Legend, please play Hyrule Total War!
It's a breeze to download and a really ambitious Medieval 2 mod. Flying units, magic...battle crabs...it's rad. And it would be cool seeing you play a mod that puts you out of your element a bit.
Sounds cool. Been quite a few mods popping up with flying units :)
what mod are you using?
Yo you should do a series called rebuilding Rome where you play as the bizantine empire and rebuild the Roman Empire
Where is the Venice campaign?
What button do you press to see where the general is?
delete
boy those techniques
Why are the unit sizes so big? My unit size is 75
You can change that in options
+Gustav Hamnén thanks man
+Banginyermamsince93 you are welcome :D
Hope SEGA does Empire 2.
