I remember this game as a HS kid. Thank God for my dad for introducing me to college football as a kid. 🙌🏽

The AU/LSU games of the mid 2000s were the beginning of the SEC backbone. Most hard fought games I’ve ever seen

Sadly, that last minute pass wasn't the only questionable call of that game. There was the clear fumble after a catch by Hester on 4th down. It was ruled upon review as incomplete, thus giving the ball to Auburn. If called correctly, 1st down LSU.
Right before halftime, Brandon Lafell was practically mugged in the end zone in plain view of the back judge. Literally had two arms around him preventing him from getting to the ball, which was on target. No call. LSU settled for a FG.
There was a pass to our TE resulting in a huge gain in Auburn territory. Called back for holding. The problem with that flag was it was called on the RG. The RG at the time had his left hand completely wrapped to protect a broken hand. The DT was getting past on the RG's left side. All he could do, and did, was stick his arm out. Not holding by any stretch of the imagination.
Nearly every big play LSU had on offense was negated by a penalty and potential big plays were prevented by a bad call or no call.
It was the most crooked officiating I have ever witnessed, and I have seen some doozies at Alabama home games.

Look, I completely understand the frustration of LSU fans of this game, but you need to take a closer look at the thumbnail and the play. The ball was tipped on the play before it got to the receiver. Therefore it was the right call.

This recap should’ve showed the replay. If you look at the replay, the call was incorrect. The contact happened before the tip. If the contact happens after the tip, no foul. But the contact happened before.

If it wasn’t PI then it was Defensive holding.

Contact before the tip occurred. People have floated the idea that since the tip made the pass “uncatchable” it couldn’t be interference.
Problem is if the rule existed in that way, DB’s would just tackle receivers and as long as they get a hand to the ball, then it was uncatchable. The idea being the ball couldn’t get to the receiver bc the DB tipped it (never mind he was tackling him simultaneously/pinning his arm etc)
Another way of looking at it is every time a guy intercepts a pass in front of a receiver who gets interfered. The INT is overturned because balls being uncatchable have nothing to do with being tipped. That’s why tipped passes have their own set of rulings and determinations.

That changed pass interference call was a huge robbery

The Call was a hot topic for weeks. LSU fans would not shut up about it. You can't interfere with an uncatchable pass. The ball was tipped wide away.

Auburn was 5-12 against LSU after this robbery

Uncatchable passes have nothing to do with being tipped. They are in different categories for a reason.
Auburn fans really don’t want to go down the rabbit hole of where that logic would extend if the rule existed the way it was called here.
Receiver mugged 20 yards down the field? Doesn’t matter another DB intercepted it before it got to you: uncatchable.
Corner pins your receivers arm? Doesn’t matter he tipped the ball before it got to you and you had no chance of catching it.

@@INoticeTooMuch1 they're not two different things tho. The ball was tipped out of his reach and wouldn't have been caught whether or not there was interference. So again, you can't call interference on a ball that wasn't going to be caught in any case. There's no rabbit hole to go down, very elementary logic.

He was hit and held before it was tipped genius! That’s a penalty

And to think Verne and Gary had the boring game (FLA vs TEN) while their understudies Craig and Steve had the more entertaining game 😅
