Did you ever consider it takes hours only to learn the procedures and generally how to fly a single plane? It's as realistic as it gets and it takes years of effort to make just one plane because they not only have to model the cockpit and the external model, but also all the weapons used by the plane, all the controls, every last little switch, the voice of the AWACS operator and every single little sound you could hear in an actual plane in addition to the avionics and the flight model. And while I don't play DCS because it IS expensive, I totally respect their effort and understand why the price is how it is. Also, remember that there are modules like Flaming Cliffs 3 with several planes in it (with no clickable cockpits, but still with the same level of realism otherwise).

You need a keyboard + joystick or need a keyboard +VR headset, but it is one of the most real to life combat flight sims you can get. Wont be able to play it on any console.

Cold starting an aircraft in DCS takes about 8 minutes, and 6 of that is just waiting for the Navigation system to align. You can also have the aircraft start hot and already set up if you don't like that. The MFDs (screens) and buttons operate exactly as they would in the actual aircraft. Strategy is as it would be in real dogfights. ED even put full size models of various missiles into supersonic wind tunnels just to ensure the physics were as realistic as possible.
He would be feeling the G forces but it doesn't really affect his head or hands. That's why pilots have HUD's in those expensive helmets. They can target using their gaze.

Had my dad, an ACTUAL Naval NFO, watch this. All he could do was laugh at the beginning with the lack of a proper briefing, the fact that neither of them had anything other than their helmets, the fact that their plane was already in the Cat with the canopy open during a storm, and the fact that neither put their helmet on until they were getting into the plane. Then, the whole “check stabs and flaps” as well as checking equipment, as well as the shooters movements actually got him to say “that’s pretty damn good.” And then he actually really liked them getting launched off the deck.
You could fly it but the ground crew would have grounded the jet as its missing parts. Think of it like a car just because its missing something does not mean you can't drive it but take it to a race track and watch them ground you :D

Ok, to all the people talking about the missiles in the tail pipe lol, what people fail to realise is that right before the missle hits the jet, the jet hits full thrust shooting a flame probably about 14 feet long out the back you can actually see it in the video. This is a trick thats done when they run out of flares because the missles are heat seekers and naturally go after the flame, the flame detonates the missle so while it will fuck the jet up it may not destroy it. However, two or three thats pretty lucky and they would have had to turn around and try to get back to the base because its not a gaurentee that their jet would last long.

1: They don't discuss mission details on the way to the flight deck. 2. His harness is wrong for Navy pilots. The leg straps aren't secured properly. 3. They board their planes before getting settled into the catapult launch system. 4. Helmets are on before reaching the flight deck. 5. Pilot closes the canopy not the wizzo in the back. 6. Systems check is conducted before you taxi to catapult, flaps, aerolons, rudders etc., are checked and tested below deck in the hanger before the plane is lifted to the flight deck. 7. The gun is not "spun up" as a test on the flight deck. 8. Before getting in the plane, pilots do their own walk around before boarding to do final checks for weapons, landing gear, intakes etc. 9. The wizzo does not arm or check weapons, they're little more than living baggage that may provide assistance in visually ID'ing threats and provide navigational assistance. Not much else to be said about them. 10. Placement and conduct of deck crew is incorrect. Also, nobody salutes from inside the cockpit. 11. Random techno gibberish go brrrrrrrrrrr. 12. Once launched, flights do not circle around the fleet. They get straight onto their mission heading. 13. "WHO IS THE DAMN FLIGHT LEAD?" Totally unclear who flight lead is, also, this isn't the Blue Angels doing an airshow, no reason for them to be that close together. 14. Hostiles, this close to the fleet? And since when do our carriers travel in pairs? 15. What is he waiting for? SHOOT DAMMIT!! Bogey on your 12 O'clock and no Fox 1? The wizzo is not the pilot, you are! Do your damn job! 16. Now he's on your six and now you've been hit! Bail! Jeez mon what is it with these developers and not understanding that an engine hit is likely fatal? Now our F-18's are magic flying tanks that can survive 5 missile hits? 17. Abandoning your wingman, in combat is a big NO NO!! Where is your wingman? 18. ... did these devs do anything right? ... anything at all? 19. Pretty graphics go brrrrrrrrrrrrr. 20. What? That wasn't dramatic enough, so you needed two scripted unavoidable deaths? ... more errors than I can be bothered with counting anymore, so I'll settle for a top 20. 🙄

The missile know where is needs to be at all times and will fire when the master arm is safe, because it knows that the master arm is a deviation, so the missile issues a corrective command to drive the missile from where it is to a position where it isnt.
Luckily, they were able to absorb the damage of those first six missiles and continue their mission. “Let’s engage, guns only! Oh wait, we actually have unlimited missiles.”

@@tequilachaser2954 That was the built in ladder that they used and is how they will actually climb into the cockpit on both the flight deck and the flight line. It's built into the underside of the LEX on both Super Hornets and legacy Hornets and is the only way to get into the cockpit without an external ladder or climbing up the back of the stab which is very awkward to do. It's virtually the same ladder for both legacy and Super Hornets with the only real difference being that the Super Hornets have an electronic release and the legacy Hornets are completely manual. I was an AE in VFA-131 on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and the USS George Washington (CVN-73) and have worked on both legacy and Super Hornets and have climbed into the cockpit of many F/A-18's on the flight deck, using the built in ladder every single time. You are correct about everything else.

Very exciting battle. But the air to air battle nowadays are beyond visual range with the advent of more powerful radars. This air dog fights rarely happen anymore. Now you can shoot down enemy aircraft without even seeing them.
Are you aware that the real version of these aircrafts do not have 120 missiles like in video games? they have about 2... and firing one is reaaaally expensive.

In the grand scheme of things, the missiles aren't -too- expensive, but it costs a lot if you don't look at the relativity of military hardware.

Actual modern air combat takes place at much further ranges than this game shows. It's exceedingly rare that two dogfighting planes will get into visual range of each other nowadays. Still, pretty cool level.

It is the prettiest, I'll give it that, but Ace Combat has got more realism going on than this Battlefield mission. Not to mention there is nothing less intense than an on rails scripted dog fight, nothing beats the shear terror of a BMS campaign's opening few hours or a DCS dogfight.
I know I'll probably get doxxed for this, but I still play the HAWX games. The freedom to jump from cockpit to external camera fixed on your target to... whatever they call the floating dogfighting camera is quite fun. The missions are a bit dull, though...
Dude just sucks at this mission. It's a scripted dogfight however a subtle objective is to run through untouched. Premature release of countermeasures.
*The only realistic thing about this was Su-35 Doing Cobra Maneuver to get at 6 O' Clock of F/A-18E...And that was legit Badass..good thing they put in the game*
The one thing developers should take from this, is that there is a desire for a realistic air combat game....Not a crappy game with a jets that carry 100 missiles.

Man after watching this after so long, there is just so much wrong here. -Homeboy is wearing an Air Force patch -Nobody salutes in a P-way -ELINT and IMINT are two totally different things -On the flight deck with no ear pro -OHP frigates wouldn't be part of the strike group -OHP frigates don't have fucking VLS (You see one launch. Launchers (not-VLS) were taken off long before they were taken out of service) -You'd have gotten I&W on the Sukhois, as well as radar, welllllll before they're in guns range Just so, so cringy.

8. Before getting in the plane, pilots do their own walk around before boarding to do final checks for weapons, landing gear, intakes etc.
9. The wizzo does not arm or check weapons, they're little more than living baggage that may provide assistance in visually ID'ing threats and provide navigational assistance. Not much else to be said about them.
10. Placement and conduct of deck crew is incorrect. Also, nobody salutes from inside the cockpit.

Did you notice that during the fight it still said "Safe" on the stores page? Those are enthousiastic missiles for sure!
The missile know where is needs to be at all times and will fire when the master arm is safe, because it knows that the master arm is a deviation, so the missile issues a corrective command to drive the missile from where it is to a position where it isnt.
Luckily, they were able to absorb the damage of those first six missiles and continue their mission. “Let’s engage, guns only! Oh wait, we actually have unlimited missiles.”

If any of you that liked the F18 sitting there on what looked to be cat 4, with the jet hooked up to the catapult and both engines are already running at full military power (80% throttle) or just a click past full MP just a notch into Afterburner.....that never happens in real life, nor do they use ladders to climb into the cockpits on the flight deck.....what a pos of a Game....oh did you see the "hit the brakes, he'll fly right by" maverick maneuver....LMAO.....none of that is like real life....my squadron served on the Nimitz CVN 68 and the Roosevelt CVN 71.....
@@tequilachaser2954 That was the built in ladder that they used and is how they will actually climb into the cockpit on both the flight deck and the flight line. It's built into the underside of the LEX on both Super Hornets and legacy Hornets and is the only way to get into the cockpit without an external ladder or climbing up the back of the stab which is very awkward to do. It's virtually the same ladder for both legacy and Super Hornets with the only real difference being that the Super Hornets have an electronic release and the legacy Hornets are completely manual. I was an AE in VFA-131 on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) and the USS George Washington (CVN-73) and have worked on both legacy and Super Hornets and have climbed into the cockpit of many F/A-18's on the flight deck, using the built in ladder every single time. You are correct about everything else.

Very exciting battle. But the air to air battle nowadays are beyond visual range with the advent of more powerful radars. This air dog fights rarely happen anymore. Now you can shoot down enemy aircraft without even seeing them.

Yossi Cohen Your typical modern fighter-jet aircraft can carry around 10 missiles depending on the model. Carrying 2 would be ridiculous if a dogfight was to occur. In the grand scheme of things, the missiles aren't -too- expensive, but it costs a lot if you don't look at the relativity of military hardware.

It is the prettiest, I'll give it that, but Ace Combat has got more realism going on than this Battlefield mission. Not to mention there is nothing less intense than an on rails scripted dog fight, nothing beats the shear terror of a BMS campaign's opening few hours or a DCS dogfight.
