Greek text:
Iliad 1.1-16

Thanks to Mala and to my mom for filming.
Ro and Mala starred as 'the Punters,' and Eva and Naomi provided moral support.

Shout out to that flow
First of all, you need to come to UA-cam. And second of all, ma'am, you are magnificent.
It’s all Linear B to me
I felt this.
Poetry nerds are best nerds
Good to see young people still interested in the ancient Greek timeless works, well done with an innovate approach.
Well done Rodney,I think your idea is paradoxically quite true to the nature of the ancient bards ....it was a rhythmic way of telling the story, exactly what you are demonstrating.Good luck with it!
I was skeptical that this video would be a success but I'm glad I was proven wrong.
Straight fire. When Homer's next mixtape dropping?
Dat shit is going to be Thermosssss
Why am I finding this only now? It's epic. It's amazing. It's Homeric.
Hesiod been real quiet since this dropped
Just one remark, in the original ancient Greek performance rhythm was simply kept by a man beating down a heavy stick. The stick beat was called 'rapisma', or rapping the stick basically.
I think we were taught to chant it similarly in LITerature class
The first time I heard rap-I’m quite old now-I thought that it might be a rebirth of something like the ancient Greek epic style, and here you are! Thanks!
Rap in general?
@@TheMarulaMonarch yes. It turned out to be good in a different direction though. Generally speaking (I’m not remotely qualified to more than hazard a guess about all rap, although the other day I heard a litt bit of Japanese rap that was much more conversational and less obviously rhythmic, so there are still things to be done that are new, to me at least).
cool! there's definitely something there, isn't there...
@@TheModernRapsodewe’re all human, and have been for a while, so I expect the same or a similar impulse to lyric chant is prt of what makes us human, in aggregate . . .
Ha. That's Selwyn. Excellent.
It's pretty obvious that rap music is simply the modern version of a very old technique that mimics the human heartbeat.
Is that Hideo Kojima rowing the boat?
BAHAHAHAHAHH
🔥🔥💯💯 Bars!!
Is this hell of a pronounciation also some 500 BC. ghetto slang ?
Well the original was meant to be like a Rap since it rhymed and bards aka pre-Hellenic age rappers memorized thousands of lines since they lost they Linear B.
Didnt rhyme tho I think?
It just followed the sylable rules of dactillyc hexameter.
only a rhapsode can see the greatness of this action
Wunderbar!
Nice.
Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
We can just hear how you recorded the sound with another device on youtube

I am not such a fan of this... before rapping the phonology of the language is more important.... what you create does not sound like ancient greek at all, I only hear US-English (?) diphtongs everywhere - for me it's some kind of art, for sure - but not ancient greek
Only from an American I would expect that 😅
