    Greek text:
    Iliad 1.1-16

Good to see young people still interested in the ancient Greek timeless works, well done with an innovate approach.

Well done Rodney,I think your idea is paradoxically quite true to the nature of the ancient bards ....it was a rhythmic way of telling the story, exactly what you are demonstrating.Good luck with it!

I was skeptical that this video would be a success but I'm glad I was proven wrong.

Just one remark, in the original ancient Greek performance rhythm was simply kept by a man beating down a heavy stick. The stick beat was called 'rapisma', or rapping the stick basically.

The first time I heard rap-I’m quite old now-I thought that it might be a rebirth of something like the ancient Greek epic style, and here you are! Thanks!

      Rap in general?

    • @TheJohnblyth
      @TheJohnblyth 4 місяці тому

@@TheMarulaMonarch yes. It turned out to be good in a different direction though. Generally speaking (I’m not remotely qualified to more than hazard a guess about all rap, although the other day I heard a litt bit of Japanese rap that was much more conversational and less obviously rhythmic, so there are still things to be done that are new, to me at least).

@@TheModernRapsodewe’re all human, and have been for a while, so I expect the same or a similar impulse to lyric chant is prt of what makes us human, in aggregate . . .

It's pretty obvious that rap music is simply the modern version of a very old technique that mimics the human heartbeat.

Well the original was meant to be like a Rap since it rhymed and bards aka pre-Hellenic age rappers memorized thousands of lines since they lost they Linear B.

I am not such a fan of this... before rapping the phonology of the language is more important.... what you create does not sound like ancient greek at all, I only hear US-English (?) diphtongs everywhere - for me it's some kind of art, for sure - but not ancient greek
