Yeah although i kind of like that when i drive a manual i never have to worry about people wanting to borrow my car, and those that can drive manual and want to borrow it i can rest assured its in good hands. Americans forgot thst driving can be really fun. People are driving CVTs. Its a wonder more people dont fall asleep at the wheel. Im glad that the things most people want in vehicles, like gadgets and confort and effeciency are things im not really concerned about. Thats all just added weight. I just want a light and nimble vehicle and to be able to choose my own gears and have an engine that revs high. I dont even need a lot of horses or tons of torque. Its not how fast a car goes but rather how fast it feels.

I bought a 4wd jeep liberty a couple years ago for 800 bucks and lifted it on 33,s along with some other mods for around $1400 . She's still going strong today with 131k miles :)

@@IdealMediaChannel they stopped making the Scout in 1980 I believe. They are really starting to go up in value, but can still be found for under $5k. Poor man's Ford Bronco basically.
Just realized this comment is a few years old, so things may have been different then but I just looked nationwide on CarGurus for a Scout and there was only 9 results, all of which were $30k or more. I'm sure if I really looked for an old beater scout I could find one cheaper, but no way will I get one for under $5k anymore haha. Wish I could, I love how they look.
You should show the mileage on the cars/trucks for sale. No wants something with 300k for "5 Grand"

I got a Suzuki samurai with a 4G63 swapped into it
My sister and friend both had 4 door Suzuki Samurai's and stock they roll super easy!
My dad had a land rover discovery and it was raily fun because it is 7 seater and has soooooo much space I also found it kinda cool how the back door for the boot (trunk) opend to the side
You dont want a Samari, my dad had one and took it to the trails near my house, very mild and relatively flat, its top heavy as all offroaders, but he took a light corner and it flipped.
The driver makes the vehicle not the other way around. I cruise the Houston TX pavement in a2000 Sebring convertible and have done things people dream of doing in Corvettes. Hope you drive better than dad.

I don't know if it is avavible in the US but the cheapest offroad car I know is the Lada Niva.
I have a 1994 Isuzu amigo for this, its a little hard to find parts for but it's extremely capable and I can't wait to modify it even more!!

I just bought a sweet 1991 4runner for cheap with all the 4wd and is super capable
The discovery 2 is underrated. They can be a pain in the ass but if you know what to look for and put about 1k into them after buying, you have a pretty solid offroader. I got mine for sub 1000 and it had its flaws, bad battery, terminals, sagging head liner and the three amigos... $2000 in and it runs like a dream. Over 170k on the 4.0 engine now and it hasn't let me down. I hear the larger displacement has had head gasket problems but surprisingly the 4.0 hasn't had any big issues. Never left me stranded and I got it for dirt cheap. The best thing about these trucks is they are a killer deal due to their bad reputation (which they deserve) but if you get lucky and find a half taken care of one, you can really make that thing a reliable rig. Don't let all the horror stories scare you, just treat it right and it treats you right.

Great video! I search for a cheap offroader. The Jeep Wrangler is the best but not so my style. My favorite will be the Ford Truck. But not the series form your video , i want to have the model before from the 80's. Cool cars! Keep it up!!
I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado 1500 for my first truck, just put a 6in lift and some 35s on it.
You forgot to mention the Subaru Forester XT and the Honda CRV first gen
It's rare to find any of these in descent shape under 5k It does happen but expect to have another 5k in it before you can depend on it off road
Wish they would talk about the cons and maintenance as Im really considering buying some of these.
I’ve invested 5K into a 2004 Jeep Liberty and turned it into a great off road and daily driver, only downsides is IFS but I put on racing upper and lower wish bones, and it hasn’t broken yet. The other negative is off road parts aren’t cheap I spent $1700 on a 3inch lift, but that has been the most expensive thing so far everything else is fairly cheap b/c most TJ parts fit on it like bumpers, lights, etc.
so not to bad for an off roader.
Same year Jeep Liberty, parts have gotten worse I spent a total of 4K just in parts but I’m not going the cheap route don’t wanna break down on my first off-roading trip

A Suzuki Samurai??!?!? Wtf?? For 2 g’z u could get a 2 door Isuzu rodeo sport v6 speed.. rear wheel drive or 4x4 with Dana 44’s.. over 200 hp Super easy engine to work on.. or even swap a v8 in it. It’s practically a GMC... and for LITERALLY 2 g’z.. just imagine putting 3 g’z into it. NOW u have a 5 grand BEAST that would DESTROY EVERYTHING on this list.. for the Money!!.. a Suzuki samurai. Geez!! Still love the swag of the channel.. keep killin it!! LETS GO!!!

I had a 1991 single cab long bed Ford Ranger as my first truck. I'm a Chevy guy so it killed me to drive a Ford but my parents got it for me when I started driving and beggers can be choosers! Unfortunately it was a work truck with vinyl seats and a rubber floor and was only 2wheel drive but it did have some nice rims and oversized tires a stereo a new paint job a 6 cylinder engine and AC so I couldn't complain lol!😋

I know people knock Ford, but I had a 1988 Ranger XT for years. When it finally died (not it’s fault, I got T-boned and broke my neck in 2 places), it had, and I’m not exaggerating, 396,759 miles on it, on the same engine! It was a beast of a truck, got me everywhere I wanted to go. Sad to see it die. I was more sad over the truck than in pain over the neck! Taken care of, these will last a LONG time!

The SE TJ Jeep is a 4-cyl. Finding a 4.0 inline-six TJ (Sahara, Sport, Rubicon) right now is not really possible under 5k. The price for those, even with high miles are pushing 8-13k on average.
Mine is suzuki vitara jlx 1.6l gasoline and it s small consumer and great off-roader

Woo that XJ had me worried about since it's very similar to mine, but going for $5k, then I saw it has 100k more miles on it. Still a unicorn being 4.0, manual, 4x4 and a 2 door.
Man, I can't even find a basic XJ within 500 miles of me under 5k that hasn't been flooded or crashed lol. I did see one with a rough country lift, all terrains and 180k miles selling locally for 10k though lol

Well my rig is a 99 suburban yeah it’s a beast I know but it works for me and parts are relatively cheap I think full size vehicles are underestimated no it’s not a rock crawler but it hold it’s own on trails

$7500 for my 2000 TJ SE,(I think that stands for Short Everything 🤣👍) 4:11's in my diff's, 5 speed manual, with the 2.5 engine rattle,and it's damn near indestructible, went Snow Wheeling out here in Arizona yesterday and was the only one to complete the trail,except for maybe a small Razor, but it's tracks looked a day old!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
