    This has been so valuable! I'm prepping for a activation campaign for my small business, and ive been struggling to figure out how to priotise. But your matrix makes so much sense! My contraint is budget, because its bootstrapped, i have a timeline i must meet so i must optimise for time, which means i must accept that if my plan derails i must shrink he scope to be able meet the deadline.
    Fantastic 👏👏👏

    Love this. Thank you for your videos. A question: I have a scope and delivery time, but a budget cannot be set until we have finished our planning and rfp piece, which won't be for some time. We are almost finished initiation, and that won't be until the end of planning stage. So how can I set a constraint around budget without knowing what it is yet?

    Hello Adriana, while i study for a project management test i found your video. But i have a question, does the scope of the project needs to be established in a single statement or can it be a paragraph?
    Thank you!

    Hey, Adriana. How do we incorporate QUALITY into this prioritisation to keep 'agents' out of The Matrix?

  • @andrewsprojectmanagementse4720

    Great explanation of the triple constraints and how to manage them. I would use this tool to frame the conversation with senior management once two or all three constraints come into conflict.

    This is beyond helpful. I ha e to put tigether a propsal for my project that is über complex to set up a workshop with my federal clients. This project has been derailed and planning to use this method in a workshop next week.

    What if there is no budget component to the project?

    • @AdrianaGirdler
      @AdrianaGirdler  9 місяців тому

      A budget for the work may not have been articulated or announced but that doesn't mean that a budget doesn't exist somewhere for the cost of the intended work. There will always be a cost associated with any project.
      Thanks for your question and for watching, cheers!

    how do you bring an irrational leader to terms that he/she can't make all 3 a constraint? Standing off to leadership saying it is not possible is likely the end of a career.

    • @AdrianaGirdler
      @AdrianaGirdler  Рік тому

      What you describe is a very unique situation. When you explain the why, most senior leaders get it. They key is to do this in the very beginning of your project when people are not emotionally charged. Everyone sees logic and reason at the beginning of projects because things haven’t really started yet. This is the key to making your priority matrix a tool and using it as a technique to keep your project on track.
      Regarding this unique scenario….it’s hard to provide suggestions without more context. You may need to bring in your sponsor or other executives.

      You can explain to irrational leaders that, if they want everything as a constraint, they might as well disband their steering committee while they are at it since there will be no decisions for them to make. And, years of experience tell us that the project will just go off the rails about 50% to 75% through. At that time they will have to yield anyway and authorize some changes to the project. Only by waiting until the project is off the rails, they have now incurred more COST (most likely) and TIME, since it takes time to use the costs to fix the project.
      But, if they plan for it now, and allow us to not mark TIME or COST as a constraint, we can better deal with issues during the project, and not incur both when something unexpected comes up.
      And something always comes up. Many times out of your control. If it didn't, you wouldn't need project managers. The list is endless of things that can and do go wrong with projects that are out of your control that will need to be dealt with.
      That's what you tell them.
