  • I'm finally getting around to reviewing the Monteverde Ritma, this one being the Espresso Special Edition with an Omniflex nib.
    Monteverde is a US company, the nibs are made by JOWO in Germany, and some of their pens are made (in part or whole) in China. This is why the pen is the "American Pens" Playlist. 😆

    I got one on sale and was excited to get it. I am a Medium nib guy. I was a little disappointed though because the feed and the nib did not line up. I thought that with a name like Monteverde that would not be an issue. I discovered after trying it inked up and then going through the cleaning process that the nib and feed are removable and so, I just made sure they were both lined up with one another correctly when reinstalling them and now it's Perfect!
    fantastic Job as always James!! 🙏💕

    I have a purple Ritma with a black fine point nib and it writes like a champ. I'm a little surprised that you didn't mention the cool popping sound it makes when you remove the cap. 🤗

      You know, the one I looked at a few years ago at a pen store popped, but this one doesn't.

    I'm glad that you got a good one and in an attractive color. I picked up the orange one a while ago and personally found it somewhat disappointing. The ink flow isn't consistent, the pen is rather heavy as you noted, about as heavy as the Faber Castell E-Motion but the E-Motion delivers a wonderful nib and flow. My Ritma is on my pens I regret buying list.

    This pen has tempted me. I love the color, and the magnetic cap is very appealing. The thing that has held me back is the smooth metal section.

      If it's a slipping issue you're concerned about, I've got three of these and have never noticed any grip issues. I think it being a straight tube not a tapering shape helps. If it's the looks, I can't help you!

    My Monteverde MVP has a flex nib and I agree. It's stiff - but I have made some progress in getting it to provide line variation. One secret is not to hold the pen vertically - a shallow angle makes for easier flex.
    On another Monteverde front, I got a replacement medium nib for one of my two Innova pens this morning. It was a nice writer with a standard fine nib, and it's really nice with the new medium. It's been my preferred EDC for some time. Only more so now.
    Great review. Buenos dios, amigo!

    I have a Conklin with omniflex, and get the same results you do. Let the buyer be patient! It is a nice pen. Glad you had the pleasure of getting and using yours.

      It was a Conklin with the Omni that was loaned to me for review a while back that convinced me to get this one with the nib. I'm looking forward to seeing how it breaks in over time.

    Update on my last comment. I previously had trouble with this pen because the grip section would loosen as I wrote with it. It annoyed me so much that I got rid of it. However, James suggested that I add a silicone O-ring to it and see if that would solve the problem. So I bought another one and tried it.... And it worked like a charm. The section doesn't come loose anymore at all. I don't know why the pen doesn't just come with one. Anyway, thank you for the suggestion, James. I wanted to let you know you made my life just a bit easier.

    I have the Ritma. I have enjoyed the pen a lot. The magnet that holds the cap is pretty strong. The tolerances on the cap and barrel is very close. When you pull off the cap, it pops which is my fidget move for this pen.
    I am not a real fan of the Omniflex nib. It seems a bit stiff and there are other nibs like the Jowo elastic nib.
    My version is the carbon fiber model. Really nice
    Great review, James and enjoy the pen.

    "Ritma, Ritma, that looks familiar " thought I, as I watched the review. And sure enough, in the lesser-used pens jar is a bright blue Monteverde Ritma with an unmarked nib. Apparently I tossed the box way back when. I'll have to ink 'er up and give 'er a spin.
    Thank you for reminding me.

      Inked it up with Pilot iroshizuku blue. There is no nib size marking that these eyes could discern. But it writes, nicely, as a sort of stub or italic. I'm happy to have rediscovered it and put it back into rotation. Funny how perspective changes over time, through experience

      Yes, it is. I don't how often that's happened to me and left me wondering why I put a pen to the side so long.

    I just got this pen last week! I like it a lot but I do use it without the cap. Has too much weight with the cap.

  • @herrsteppenwolf
    @herrsteppenwolf 3 місяці тому +1

    I wonder how strong the magnetic cap is. My only pen with a magnetic cap pen I owen is the FPR Quick Draw whose cap magnet is weak and at times I find working itself off. Hence I hesitate here.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  3 місяці тому +1

      Strong enough to easily support the weight of the pen when capped, and to pull the pen from a pen loop or pocket without coming off at all.

    I have a Ritma but don't use it much because the grip section on mine loosens itself as I write. Very annoying. Maybe it's just my particular pen.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  3 місяці тому +3

      Did yours come with the o-ring? It seems like that's what keeps this one from working itself loose.

    Just got one and it doesn’t “pop.”
    Haven’t inked it and will probably exchange. I have to believe the lack of pop means there’s an issue with the seal that will cause the nib to dry up quickly.

      @JG3Reviews  2 дні тому
