I've uploaded this because, this is easily my favorite ending to Return of the Jedi.
Hope you enjoy!
The true ending to the Skywalker Saga… beautiful
Agreed.
i like the original release ending better, do we really need to see every planet celebrating, that doesn't even make sense. Original song a bit more cool also.
@@jks7556 The galaxy and its systems are free from the Empire’s grasp. We even see people tearing down a statue of the Emperor on Coruscant
By far the best version of the ending. The added scenes of Cloud City, Mos Eisley, and Coruscant, Victory Celebration instead of Yub Nub, and Sebastian Shaw instead of Hayden, and really good quality to boot. Perfection.
And no Naboo. That's the best bit about this ending.
And that Luke and Wedge hug aswell.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes this ending!
@@jackdiamond5340 I would have kept Vader having no eyebrows when the mask is removed.
Indeed plus this feel like more of an end music wise than yub nub sorry just not a fan of inane music rounding up the triology felt lacklustre until John Williams whipped this beauty out
Can you imagine being a 10 year old Hayden Christensen in like 1986 or so and watching this on a VHS tape and having no idea that you'd be in the ending scene some day when you're older. Crazy.
If I was him, I'd have wanted to tell George it would have been better to let me perform the scene for real instead of using BTS footage of me just standing there not knowing it's gonna be cut out and tacked on over Sebastian Shaw. I mean, they could totally do that now since Hayden is much closer to Anakin's age at the time of his death.
@@greatBLT i'm not a huge supporter of further tinkering with the OT but I 100% agree that if they bring Hayden back for Ahsoka season 2, Filoni should take the opportunity to shoot a new Force ghost sequence.
@@greatBLTit wasn’t even bts footage George didn’t tell him what the scene was for he just said to stand there smiling
Hayden would've been 5 at that time
This is the best version of the finale of the movie! Better music and Sebastian Shaw is still on screen.
Lando clapping is everything! ❤
That ominous masked figure in black that we first saw at the start of A New Hope has become an angelic being of light, now at peace, redeemed by his son's love.
That's a very beautifully poetic way to phrase it.
Thanks for that.
And this ending is a lot more emotionally impactful now that we have the prequels and we realize that Palpatine is the one who destroyed Anakin’s life, took away his happiness and turned him into an agent of evil.
This is by far the best version of the ending
40 yrs later and this still holds up.
Actually we didn’t have this ending 40 years ago, instead it was the original ending with the song Yub Nub. We didn’t have this ending until 1997.
@@Iggywiggywoo Yes i know but both are still a true end to the skywalker saga compared to what Disney did.
This is the perfect version of the ending for Star Wars Retrun of The Jedi, never knew it existed, with both the better music and the original Anakin Skywalker!
It’s from the 1997 vhs
And no “Weesa free” :)
@@miniluv7330 As if there was anything wrong with that line. Jar Jar hater. Eat my butt.
Better music? I declare. The special version has the better music dear so you better check yourself before I check you. How did you also not know there was an original ending before all the obvious 1990s CGI editions the second ending has in it? How old are you, 10?

This is the true ending of Star Wars. There are no sequels, no loose ends. The story ends here. Palpatine and Vader are dead. Anakin Skywalker was redeemed and destroyed the Sith once and for all, fulfilling the prophecy as the Chosen One. The Empire has fallen, the Rebels have won. The Skywalkers go on to rebuild the Jedi.
You know your true Star Wars. There is little value in the brand for all those fans who don't know its meaning, but turn professional when it comes time to reciting all the additional nonsensical details the owners made up after the fact.
Those details aren't the real Star Wars, and most of them aren't worth a thing. But it's hard to teach people that there is a better story out there within this brand, because of all the added cacophony of less-than brilliant ideas from less-than genius minds. 🙂
Always a pleasure to meet someone who avoided such a huge trap in our times!
Much better than the original ending. It's great to see scenes of people across the galaxy rejoicing after the defeat of the Empire at Endor, and I also like how Sebastian Shaw was included instead of Hayden Christensen like in some other versions. Anakin Skywalker was in his 40s when he died, and it's logical that his force ghost will be around the same age as when he passed. The music is also nicer!
Its said that your force ghosts appears the moment you died as a jedi
@@ItzAdrian02 the man who died in Luke's arms was anakin skywalker, jedi knight. Vader was already gone by then. Anakin died a jedi, not a sith. He redeemed himself.
@@empirestate8791 Exactly, it proves Luke's point that there was still good in him, that Anakin was still Anakin in Vader. When this gets brought up, then some fans who defend Hayden will say oh, it's because young Anakin returned briefly. It's an excuse after and excuse. If you like it, fine but old man Anakin makes far more sense since he never truly died as Luke mentioned. Don't forget, Lucas did not have this concept until the 2004 releases. He keeps changing what is what years after years. He finally stopped simply because he sold the franchise.
@@terryrocks2j Exactly, Hayden in this scene makes no fucking sense. I don't know what Lucas was thinking, it was such a terrible decision.
If that's the case, Anakin would appear as a limbless torso, as that's what he last looked like.
This music is honestly much better than Yub Nub. It's much more fitting, not just for the conclusion of this film but the Saga as a whole.
Indeed. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music
I actually love the inclusion of Hayden and Naboo, but growing up this was the VHS we had at home, so this is what I remember most.
I hate Hayden in the other ending, Sebastian Shaw was far more poignant and the image that Luke would RECOGNIZE as his father. Luke would not recognize some bro who's younger than him as dad.
I don't mind Hayden in there that much and saw nothing wrong with adding Naboo too (even with "Weesa free!" in the mix haha). That said, Sebastian Shaw in his limited screen-time as both Anakin Unmasked and then as a Force Spirit is SO perfect, that's not something to mess with.
@@futuremovieactor Exactly, Anakin Skywalker MATURED into Luke's father before his death, and there's something so fatherly and special seeing him there. Teenage Hayden just looks so out of place next to the 2 elders: Obi Wan and Yoda. It was possibly the most perfect movie ending I have ever seen.
Happy 40th Anniversary to return of the Jedi
the perfect version
I agree!
"None cheered harder than the people of corruscant" - Luke Skywalker
They cheered so hard that I even heard the Wilhelm scream.
@@NostalgicGamerRickOShayApparently that scream was a Stormtrooper they sent flying and exploded 💀
Despite me accepting Hayden Christensen replacing Sebastian Shaw, since Hayden played Anakin in the Prequels.
This one, The 1997 Special Edition ending will always be my favorite.
Same here.
Yeah, mine too.
Oh, yeah. Easily. I love how Anakin looks at Obi-Wan and Yoda, then smiles so warmly at his kids
I love Hayden Christensen and hè will always have a special place in my heart for the performance he gave as anakin, BUT this is my favorite version and I love seeing sebastian shaw as old man anakin....
As it's all just a movie (and now) novel, comic books, games, TV show, etc I just try to relax about it all. Either Sebastian or Hayden being in as Anakin's force ghost is plausible and I don't think either would be unreasonable. In the new canon "Shadow of the Sith" novel Skywalker flashed between his old and new appearances so his appearance to the physical world might have been influenced by the Force. I also once saw a meme that suggested that Anakin and force ghosts could choose their appearances and once they learned that from Anakin both Obi-Wan and Yoda turned themselves into much looking me. (With Yoda wanting to haunt a Mos Eisley cantina during ladies night).
As far as I'm concerned, this is where Star Wars ends; the emperor is killed, the empire is abolished, Anakin redeems himself a hero by destroying the sith and peace is restored to the galaxy. They tied this knot so tight it should've been sequel proof, it's the same deal with Terminator 2, that's also where that series ends for me.
I'm definitely not at all in a pit of hate towards the Sequel Trilogy. That said, I would agree that they probably should've left well enough alone. The Original Trilogy is a hallmark of cinema with not many others like it-and the Prequel Trilogy is a fun expansion that while in no way shape or form perfect has a lot to admire about it.
I’m so used to watching either the original cut or the 2011 cut that this just feels weird. But good.
0:07 My Favorite scene in any Star Wars Movie is right here. So emotional. All 5 Movies were built to this moment in particular. From Anakin to being a slave with his Mother, to becoming a Powerful Jedi, to being conflicted at what to do, his turn to the Dark, which led to the loss of Padme, loss of limbs, burnt and living 22 years in constant pain of the suit he was wearing and constantly being reminded on how he got to that point, pain of Padme and Obi-Wan Haunted his dreams, until Luke came into his life, beforehand Vader had always thought that his children died with Padme, which was wrong, Luke was Obi-Wan and Yoda's last Hope, Vader basically lost it when Luke would've rather died than joined his father in the Dark Side, which is why Vader said, "Bring My Shuttle!" In A pissed off mood, but it all came to a head in this movie, the constant manipulation Palpatine put into Anakin since he was 10 and now look at him, a broken man in a painful suit to stay in the Dark Side. But when Luke would've rather get murdered by Palpatine than joined the Dark Side, really spoke volumes at just how much he loved his Father. Luke knew their was good in Vader, but just then as Luke was getting attacked by Palpatine's force lightning, he remembered things from his past, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Padme and the children they had together, from that, Anakin broke free from the shackles and killed Darth Vader right then and there and killed Palpatine. Thus bringing Balance to The Force and Fulfilling the Prophecy, but most importantly saving his son. Anakin Loved his son Luke and Daughter Leia. It was those who brought him back to the light. And Anakin Skywalker was able to die in peace. And Become One with The Force. Anakin's turn hurt the Galaxy, but his redemption was what saved the Galaxy.
The true end of the saga
Yes, everything after this is not canon.
The galaxy after hearing about the cancellation of The Acolyte!
Dear Lucas,
This is how you do a special edition!
Luke smiles as the redeemed Anakin appears as a Force Spirit alongside Force Spirits Yoda and Obi-Wan, watching the celebration, and proud that Luke is now a Jedi. As Leia sees Luke, they smile as Luke and Leia rejoin the party, with Luke saying to the spirits "May The Force Be With You"
Love it, true Star Wars magic
Coruscant's first appearance
All my problems disappear when I watch the beauty of this scene. I need to watch the movies again. My moms the huge fan and I don’t get into it as much cuz it’s her thing but it’s so good!!!
My dream : the despecialized original trilogy with the fan edit "SC 38 reimagined" and the 1997 ending... someone to edit this ? 🙄
And the emperor in episode 5
This is how it ends KK heroes victorious.
Kind of sad how Anakin was only free when he died 😢
Wish I was there at that party! I’d love to get a big hug from one of those soft and cuddly ewoks!
This is how I imagine it would be when Kathleen Kennedy gets fired. Galaxy rejoice!
Best ending overall. I don’t mind Hayden Ghost, in fact I actually like it. But I also appreciate keeping Sebastian Shaw around for the limited time he had in the role.
Plus this version still has all the planets celebrating, but no Naboo with a bunch of Gungans. Truly peak.
I would rather see my father as a wise old man rather than a man who looks the same age as mine.
Definitely the definitive version of the ending.
The music and added locations celebrating the end of Palpy, and Sebastian is still Force Ghost Anakin.
If only they kept it that way 😢

So much love ❤️
My favourite version. The best music and of course the great Sebastian Shaw left in. My distinct memory of this from my childhood however is that the closing shot was on the Force Ghosts. I very clearly remember having never seen the group picture at the end before when I first watched the original version (which is the only one I watch now). Maybe I'm mistaken.
In my eyes, the perfect ending.
Aaaaaand that is Star Wars to me. That's all.
The Most Obvious Thing About The Music at The Victory Celebration is That it’s Actually a Minor Key Version of The First Half of Baga’s Theme (Which is Also The Ending Theme of The 8th Episode of The 1st Season) from The Ewoks Cartoon. Take a Close Listen.
Wait? Does this mean Victory Celebration technically existed back in the 80s before the Special Editions?
@@hunterolaughlin Victory Celebration Was Created and Recorded in 1997 For The Special Edition of RoTJ. While The Ewoks Cartoon Was Aired on ABC in 1985. “Yub Nub” Was The Original Victory Celebration.
The fact that Hayden Christensen is now in Return Of The Jedi makes me want to stab my eyeballs out. Tied with "Jedi Rocks".
What's wrong with Hayden Christensen being in the film?
@@YTWarrior100this question shows you are a douche
@@YTWarrior100 Nothing. Just the de-aging is weird, especially if you're watching in release order. Also, Hayden did not perform for this scene specifically. They just stuck in footage from somewhere. Since Sebastian knew what he was performing for, the scene is more effective and genuine since he's specifically playing a guy who just returned to the light side and is smiling so proudly at his kids. If you're watching in chronological order, then Hayden works fine, but you know...he should still look a lot happier
As far as I'm concerned this is where Star Wars saga ended period.
I wish the '97 versions were perserved along with every other version. I myself watched the dvd boxset of the 2006 limited editions so the ones I remember are the 2004 version and the GOUT version which was the one I watched the most and the one that I know the best it's "my version" after I discovered what was on the bonus disc, but I know my older cousins that their version was this '97 version and like the original version this too has been lost I feel. It's weird because I like watching the '97 version in context to the 90s even though I'm more of a purist because it's very much a product of it's time. I think my problem is that after The Phantom Menace came out is when they dropped the 'Special Edition" branding and began pretending like this is the way it always was. After the Prequels when more changes were made, they became a weird hodge podge because then it was a movie trilogy from the 70s and 80s which had digital early CGI effects added from the 90s then some inconsistent CGI touch-ups, weird sound mixing, magenta filtering, and prequel era additions in the 2000s. They have been ran through so many filters at this point that they just look weird and inconsistent. Like why was Jabba the only CGI model updated and not Sy Snoodles and the rest of the epanded Max Rebo Band, or the sarlacc or the low resolution Ronto that walks in front of the camera.
i wish they could have add the naboo scene, the jedi temple, senate bulding at coruscant scene in 1997 special edition

Glad someone still remembers Shaw as Anakin. I just don't stand Christensen.
This is probably the best version of the ending. Naboo and Hayden were unnecessary editions. Though I can understand an argument for it since George did paint himself into a corner quite a bit when he made the prequels, considering Vader was supposed to be 45 when he died. And Sebastian Shaw does not look 45 lol. In fact I'd bet that originally the Clone Wars were probably supposed to have taken place at least 10 years earlier than they did in canon. But attaching the end of the CW to the formation of the Empire as well as the births of Luke and Leia into a neat package for the sake of the movie REALLY forced the issue. And now we're just supposed to believe that Obi Wan died in his 50's and Anakin in his 40's :P
TBF when the original trilogy came out, Vader probably supposed to be older than 45.
This was before the prequels. Back then Anakin was supposed to be older. Heck even when The Phantom Menace came out (and debatably Attack of the Clones), we didn't know how old Anakin was going to be when he turned to Darth Vader. It wasn't until Revenge of the Sith where they decided to make Anakin only 22 when he became Vader, and only 41-45 in the original trilogy. But before that most people thought he was much older in the original trilogy. Like maybe in his late 50s or 60s. Also Obi Wan was supposed to be older as well.
Two years before the liberation of Coruscant. As per Legends the true Expanded Universe. Disney Star Wars is NOT Star Wars

I never got why they showed Bespin
@OnTheEdgex23 The Empire did establish a presence there by the end of Episode V. They probably stuck around. So the people are happy they fell
And according to the ST this isn’t the real ending, this is just a fake ending, episodes 1-6 were all building up to bring forth a hero to destroy the Sith and save the galaxy and that hero’s name was Rey Skywalker.
You mean Rey Palpatine?
Whos the third force ghost?
