There he met a kind taxi driver who sent him back to his hometown from Yunnan. His mother gave the taxi driver 50,000 RMB in freight to express her gratitude for saving her life. His mother thought her son was dead. He was depressed for 4 years and his eyes were always red.

The actor was not allowed to speak freely with the press as his responses were monitored by the Thai police. I don’t think so, because I’m pretty sure that it was the Burmese that baited him into Myanmar and make him do stuff in Myanmar. After all, it’s the Thai police and government that rescued him back so I think that was what he meant. Plus, I think he just meant Thailand in general is very safe, but just not the cities along the border.

Burmese here, I know a guy who has to recruit (lure into these jobs). They pay him well, even some Burmese fell for that trap. That area is corrupted, they have their own a few military personnel. These area are restricted, you can't even leave those compound if you don't have permission to go out. Luckily, my brother quit his job. I was even surprised he can even quit. He said his relationship with his boss is pretty well and so, they let them go.

There he met a kind taxi driver who sent him back to his hometown from Yunnan. His mother gave the taxi driver 50,000 RMB in freight to express her gratitude for saving her life. His mother thought her son was dead. He was depressed for 4 years and his eyes were always red.
SCMP really glossed over or skipped a lot of details with this abduction to Myanmar from thailand. The actor was not allowed to speak freely with the press as his responses were monitored by the Thai police. They requested he only tell the press that Thailand was safe for travellers and that he would return both in english and mandarin. Thailand is scary and not safe.

This armed group allows the scammer to operate on their land, the Thai government or even the Myanmar government has no authority over that area. He said his relationship with his boss is pretty well and so, they let them go.

Thai-Yai here. People should be more skeptical about the global media because what you're seeing here is just the tip of the iceberg. After the coup in Myanmar, everything went sideways (Butterfly Effect). Myanmar people have suffered long enough by the military regime not to mention being responded by bullets, shooting teenagers in the head, mass arrests, r*pes, torture, and airstrikes, just to name a few. Believe it or not, these are all the consequences of injustice. I'm very positive about this. The more it gets exposed, the more merrier.
