As a wrestling fan for over 3 decades, I've lived through some of the best moments & worst. We've seen a huge shift in approach with Vince gone and while its extremely hot now, time will tell how this era is ultimately remembered. I couldn't agree more with seeing the top superstars in Raw/Smackdown matches from time to time. It definitely shouldn't be overdone, but having the top stars occasionally wrestle on tv would likely create more weekly intrigue. I'm holding on to a tiny bit of hope Punk will be in a tag or dark match for the 12/16 Raw in Boston (I'll be there live). Thanks for the great content (especially all the WWE 2K24 related videos)! 👍👍
Loved this video, love new content. I don’t mind the bigger 2 night larger shows, I have issue with the smaller 5 card shows. They are becoming quite predictable, good matches but you just know neither the WHC or WWE title are changing hands so why have these matches? I personally would have these spots filled by others on the roster. Save these “Title” programmes with great storylines and contenders for the larger shows. Have grudge matches and mid-card tiles only on these “B” shows. That way they become more interesting, at least they would for me.
You mention RAW being more fluid. Okay, it has more storytelling than SmackDown now, but it doesn’t make it better. You can tell that WWE is still doing long term booking on the show. If they were as fast paced as you claim, we wouldn’t have this Judgement Day and Liv story carry on for almost a whole year.
I think the shorter PLE's result in Raw/Smackdown becoming more important and more must watch. Not every story requires a PPV blow off. If you view wrestling as a "Macho soap opera"...not all storylines in soap operas close the programme. Some lay low and start and finish without much fuss. They still matter to the overall story and character, but they're not THE important bit. You now watch Raw and Smackdown to see these stories build...and some build and finish. My only complaint with the 5 match PLE is that there are fewer shocks/surprises. A lot of the matches flow the same (when you actually break them down). Predictability isn't a bad thing and doesn't make something bad (eg you know Bond will always win in a Bond film, doesn't make it a bad film), but the odd shock and surprise would certainly benefit, in my opinion.
For me as a german I love the 5 match formular. Except for WrestleMania and Summer Slam, I dont want to watch wrestling until 6 am in the morning. With these 3 hour PLEs I at least can go to bed at 5 am lol. In The past more often than not I was not invested in the main event anymore because it was just too late for me and I love this formular where we get a few PLE worthy matches on raw. I hope the Raw and Smack Down Go Home Shows will feel even more like a mini PLE in the future, where they have title matches and feuds ending on raw and smack down
In the 80s WWF started the PPVs and that was a huge change. Then in 93 Monday Night Raw was another big shift from the previous model. The Attitude Era added PPVs and transformed the company again. Now we're witnessing another huge paradigm shift. Netflix has Raw in the US but everything WWE elsewhere too and that's very important. International PLEs are gonna be more and more common. Sthows for social media like Speed or Mixed Match challenge a few years ago will continue to be a thing. Collaboration with other promotions will be normalized too because everyone needs more content. We can only see the tip of the iceberg but there's a lot more coming.
@@IBelieveinJoehendryTNA shed didn't because in my country , Spain, there was no wrestling on TV from 95 to 06. It may have been available on cable or satellite but not many people had either I've watched everything back on the WWE Network and I've talked to many people who did watch and I sorta get the hype, even though a lot of Raws and Nitros were dreadful. I guess it was a moment in time, it was new, it was different, it was edgy, it was chaotic. ike a lot of 90s pop culture. Now it's mostly nostalgia, because looking back at each episode there's a lot of crap in between some great segments.
I believe that top talent not wrestling every week is not only a good thing but logical in storytelling. It’s good because the top talent get to be healthy and get time to plan out their matches. As well as get to spend time between matches doing character work. Storytelling wise, it’s logical. One of the big rewards of being champ is that you don’t chase anymore. The reason to wrestle is to rack up wins so you can challenge for the title belt. A champion doesn’t have any reason to wrestle and risk injury when they don’t get closer to a goal for doing so.
@AssembleWrestling you have to realize the top talent in wwe are mostly in the 38-45 range you don’t want these guys getting hurt. In the Attitude era most of the roster was 28-36 big difference as well as hogan was in his late 20s early 30s his first WWF run..You got guys out there now who are hogan age when he was in the NWO 96.
Definitely make the big-4 2 nights. Do it with MITB. It works. And hopefully, to incorporate your other channel, it does something with 2K to adjust however their Universe or whatever happens going forward. Netflix is definitely gonna be a game-changer.
My only two complaints is the five matches on PLE, at least make it a straight 7. Also the two nights for summerslam is something I don’t care for because I feel it’s takin away how important Wrestlemania is. The only other two nights I can see that’s reasonable is the royal rumble, makin a women’s rumble night and a guys rumble night cuz of how long the match itself is.
This might be a hottake BUT my theory is WWE isn't really good...its just it was so awful under the old regime and anything above that would be seen as better. They are doing some things better for sure the production seems to be improved, they fell butt backward into the hottest thing in wrestling with Punk vs Drew but there are still a ton of issues. Women's division (main roster) is in shambles and nobody feels must see right now Who even are the tag team titles? Why does everyone have to be in a stable? it drives me nuts Out of curiosity, I went back around 2014-ish and just saw how many Raws started off with a 15 minute promo I think it was legitimately every single show from 2014 to about midway through 2015 that started with a 15 minute promo. Its wild how formulaic raw and WWE felt. 1 thing I will give HHH is raw does not feel that formulaic to me on the rare occasion I watch a full show (Wrestling is just easier to digest thru UA-cam clips lol)
WWE has ALWAYS had faults. No Era in Wrestling in Perfect. As a matter of fact no Wrestling Show has been perfect. With that being said WWE right now is the best it's ever been since Vince bought the Company from his Father and on an objective level it's hard to argue otherwise. Obviously WWE can still improve some things... As a matter of fact there's still plenty it can improve. But compared to other Eras, such as the Attitude and Golden Eras, this new Era is shaping up to be the best Era we've ever had.
I want to clarify that part of this is due to the fact that I don't believe Vince McMahon was ever a good booker. Even the "good" eras of WWE were carried mostly by the Talent and Wrestlers themselves. With Triple H at the helm of creative we now have someone who's willing to commit to long term storytelling instead of changing his mind all of the time and completely ruining storylines for the sake of shock value.
The biggest issue with the tag team championships isn't the fact there's no credible tag teams. Imo it's the fact they're being used as a prop in larger unrelated stories. JD and Finn never defend their championships at all and The Bloodline doesn't either.
Your theory is very flawed. To say nobody in the womens division is must see when Liv and Rhea are killing it....not everyone has a stable there are a few but not a huge amount. The tag titles are in Judgment Day and Bloodline so if you don't know that it's on you.
Except for title matches, others shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes, minus ring entrances. WM3 was about 9 matches and the show was a little over 3 hours, including Aretha Franklin singing America The Beautiful and feud history videos! Not everyone is a Savage or Steamboat nowadays so 10 minutes may still be too long for most matches
I used to watch wwe when I was little and stopped watching for basically a decade and started watching again bc of the rock, Cody and Roman. And I’ve tried watching raw and smackdown since wrestlemania and I stop after 20 min bc it’s boring and nobody significant fights. So I still watch the PPV but the raws and smackdowns are boring live. I just watch recaps to stay up to date
I'm sorry, i had to stop the video because is that a New Rockstars shirt??? My god what an amazing channel for deep dives on marvel, dc, the works, I knew you were a man of culture! Anywho, let me finish watching this video 😂
While it is a massive improvement over Vince's decades of stagnant, and often ridiculous booking, I don't find myself caring that much about the product. A lot of the shows seem to be just one long advertisement and way too much talking that drags. The main events use an excessive amount of interference. Your main eventers don't have to wrestle every single show but they should be defending titles more often or use more matches to further stories. Also, CM Punk's bracelet storyline is dumb.
Something that could be good about Netflix is that the show can be as long as it need to be, on a regular network that meant that if they have a 3 hour slot you need to fill those 3 hours, with all of the good and bad, you could flesh out a lot of story lines better, but also sometime you have nothing to show and you need to book some not great stuff in order to fill the allotted time, with Netflix streaming if they show need to be 5 hours then it can be 5 hours, of it need to be only and hour and a half it can be that long, I believe they would stock with a tome between 2 and a half and 3 hours but also id you can't fell the time slot o can see show be shorter.
Great vid! Yeah bruv the Netflix deal is the next evolution of modern WWE.. like people don't realize how huge this is if it works... No more cable means no TV restrictions if they decide to take that route. We can have the family friendly here and the more adult stuff there creating stories! Tho Prime sucks imo lol
I feel like these long title reigns begin to lose their importance when every singles title has a long reign. And they can make a match feel underwhelming or anti climactic because you know that the championship isn’t changing. I would actually love to see Gunther lose the championship and then regain it the following month. He doesn’t need to be the only one holding it until wrestlemania. Same w Cody tbh
@@snippyhera right?? Like how awesome would it be if he actually lost it to Randy, then got it back in a month or two until wrestlemania. And that way he’s also a two time world champion, which adds to his prestige
Great Video Matt! I Do Think this is a far fetched guess but i think eventually if Netflix does as amazing as they want it to.. we will see all of the companies join together so there can always be an influx of talent coming in incase someone needs time off or is unexpectedly injured
I think the reason why Cody’s story is stale is because most people don’t care about the title. It’s just a shiny prop at the end of the day. Good guy is always supposed to be the underdog. Once he gets the title, what’s there left to tell? I think the reason why Austin was the perfect guy was because he would hold the title for a month or two, gets screwed and lose the title and now we got ourselves a new story. Add some spices so it doesn’t get stale and too obvious and then pro wrestling becomes Monday Night and Friday night, “Can’t miss” sort of shit.
One thing ive noticed is the weekly shows are great storyline progression ala prestige TV like Breaking Bad, but Vince loved his big promos or segments. They're more like sitcom TV, and you find yourself rewatching those bits online more often than the constant dialogue backstage and promos in ring that we've always wanted with less constraints...and it's hit or miss. Mostly hit ill give it that
Long-term storytelling doesn't need to be facing each other week after week for a year. you can have breaks, twists, write some off and then return to finish the business. there are ways to make a long-term rivalry fresh by adding side quests and branching story that will eventually fuel the main feud at the end for a satisfying conclusion.
That's a really good idea. Put the money in the bank concept on the Royal Rumble. You can have match one be. The ladder match matches 224. Be under car batches and match 5 will be the royal match. Whoever wins the 2 matches for each night has a guaranteed shot at a world championship.
I hate the new PLE format. Back in the day we'd get 8 matches maybe 10 for WM. But the shows would be 2 hours and 45 minutes or 3 hours. Then vince started making the PLEs too long with like 15 matches for 4-6 hours. But triple H does too little. Also, I miss the preshow matches. I dont want to hear people talk for 2 hours of a preshow as if a real sporting event is starting. This is professional wrestling and should stay that way. As much as I loved triple H growing up. His booking is boring overall and lacks excitement. Black and gold NXT was awesome and I think that suit him better.
Vince never did 15 match PPVs especially when you are talking about it. Wrestlemania in the 80s and early 90s did but not the AE. And back then you paid for these shows so they had to stack them up but most matches were filler. These aren't PPV events anymore so this suits better.
I think the bracelet storyline will lead to Hell in a Cell match Punk vs McIntyre with the winner being number one contender for the World heavyweight title. I prefer WWE to do at least add one more match on the ppvs, just to have a balance three matches from Raw & three matches from Smackdown
You see fans don't know what they want.. i like the long term story telling. Some times short that how it should be. I never like the title changing hands every month... let it breath
I know a lot has changed but there's one constant: No matter what, Bray Wyatt's presence is and will forever be felt. keep lighting up those fireflies ♥️
If they chopped the ridiculously long hype vidoes before every match they could fit a 6th match on the card. I understand that for the big 4 everything should ne bigger but for regular PLE's the recaps only need to be 60 seconds like a tv movie trailer. Shave 2 mins off each of them and theres a 10 min match.
I like Cody as a champ and the face of the current product, but his title reign feels almost poisoned with how you know they’re just gonna keep the belt on him until they reintroduce the Rock for Mania 41, and then maybe they’ll get someone to take the belt off him… Year+ long title reigns are just exhausting right now after ending a bunch of them this year
The only bad thing that it feels like they wanna go back to the attitude era but they are stock in a mic of Ruthless agresión and the end days of the golden age .
More entertainment and highlighting more talent?! I’m in! If you’re a wrestling “fan” why wouldn’t you want more wrestling that math just doesn’t make sense to me lol 😂
Question for everyone. With Smackdown, having that thinner roster. Would anyone like to see them stop the brand split and go back to the way it was in the attitude era, where all wrestlers were part of Raw and Smackdown?
I’m just curious as to how Triple H was going by Hunter just for his name to be Paul, however the Final Boss 😂😂😂😂😂is way more funnier than Hollywood Rock
In an alternate universe vince isn’t a creep n he comes back to call out Shawn and triple h for making too many changes leading to a 2 on one handicap match at WrestleMania 41 😂
Top wrestlers wrestle less because it just makes sense. If you are going to put a belt on someone or package someone as a main event tier character, you would want to protect your investment. Making them wrestle every single day just creates more chances to get injured.
Totally get it , like I said in the video just wish sometimes we’d see a better balance where some of the bigger talents have some matches here and there
The problem with that is the roster is old most of the upper card players are 38-45 you can’t have them waiting 3 years for a tittle change. Plus this isn’t the territory days whatever the story calls for.
You were complaining about Roman not wrestling on TV. Now, see... None of the top champions wrestle on TV 😂 And Cody's story has been utterly boring. Wish Roman had stayed champion.

@@jamiek9780 they have heaps of follk they can use. U can use midcard lower card guys and women and the survivors get title shots when they choose.
I like ads printed on the ring canvas, gives the whole presentation more of a pro boxing/sports-based feel.
The attitude era is so overrated I bet 95 % peoples whosay it great probably never watch it from 97 to 2001.
In the Attitude era most of the roster was 28-36 big difference as well as hogan was in his late 20s early 30s his first WWF run..You got guys out there now who are hogan age when he was in the NWO 96.
each monday night raw will now be 6 individual one hour episodes each week on netflix.
I'd just binge it ;)
Definitely make the big-4 2 nights.
Women's division (main roster) is in shambles and nobody feels must see right now
Who even are the tag team titles?
Why does everyone have to be in a stable? it drives me nuts
Out of curiosity, I went back around 2014-ish and just saw how many Raws started off with a 15 minute promo I think it was legitimately every single show from 2014 to about midway through 2015 that started with a 15 minute promo.
@@ultraexcalibur1728 No? Attitude Era makes this one look like a complete joke
Your theory is very flawed. To say nobody in the womens division is must see when Liv and Rhea are killing it....not everyone has a stable there are a few but not a huge amount. The tag titles are in Judgment Day and Bloodline so if you don't know that it's on you.
I think it's just Summerslam and WrestleMania because of how big they are.
imagine, TNA in mygm mode for 2k25. lol
I really don´t love the 5 match PLE. To me 6 matches is the sweet spot.
Haha thanks for watching! Ya I watch NR all the time
I absolutely love that the PLEs have been condensed
Yes, I would like to see the main stars wrestle more and have them lose once in a while out of the blue
With triple h being the head of creative and with Netflix money. I don’t have anything worry about..
This is one of my biggest complaints! Big title matches feel so boring because you know that Cody isn't dropping the title 😭
@@snippyhera right?? Like how awesome would it be if he actually lost it to Randy, then got it back in a month or two until wrestlemania. And that way he’s also a two time world champion, which adds to his prestige
The big PLE being two nights cool and four five matches shows are great because the matches are better so the show ends up a lot better
Great Video Matt! I Do Think this is a far fetched guess but i think eventually if Netflix does as amazing as they want it to.. we will see all of the companies join together so there can always be an influx of talent coming in incase someone needs time off or is unexpectedly injured
Only issue with the smaller ple match amounts is they still go for 3+ hours but there is just a shitload of ads and recap packages
The 2 nights would be great to me I'm here for it
I think the reason why Cody’s story is stale is because most people don’t care about the title.
5 matches for ppvs with the raw/SD before and after is great.
They just need to buy out nwa
One thing ive noticed is the weekly shows are great storyline progression ala prestige TV like Breaking Bad, but Vince loved his big promos or segments. They're more like sitcom TV, and you find yourself rewatching those bits online more often than the constant dialogue backstage and promos in ring that we've always wanted with less constraints...and it's hit or miss. Mostly hit ill give it that
Call me old school but i prefer the one night ppv
I think less title changes is best. This long term storytellinh is great
So Triple H wants 200 wrestlers on the main roster yet also wants longer and fewer matches?
Makes all the sense in the world!
Weekly TV should have 8 or 9 matches at 6-10 minutes, but the PPV/PLEs need to be at least double that in length
Those camera angles where they follow the wrestlers were used rarely back in the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras.
I think PLEs should be 6 matches instead of 5. The extra match goes a long way.
I'm glad I stopped watching wrestling years ago. 😅
Good choice, it's garbage with Triple H running it. These fanboys treat any type of change as the greatest thing ever.
Not so much for me
That's a really good idea. Put the money in the bank concept on the Royal Rumble.
You can have match one be. The ladder match matches 224. Be under car batches and match 5 will be the royal match. Whoever wins the 2 matches for each night has a guaranteed shot at a world championship.
I 100% agree with this video down to the nitty gritty
To be fair, top talent don't fight in the weekly televised show but fights many nights in a row on live events.
You see fans don't know what they want.. i like the long term story telling. Some times short that how it should be. I never like the title changing hands every month... let it breath
I know a lot has changed but there's one constant:
No matter what, Bray Wyatt's presence is and will forever be felt.
keep lighting up those fireflies ♥️
If they chopped the ridiculously long hype vidoes before every match they could fit a 6th match on the card. I understand that for the big 4 everything should ne bigger but for regular PLE's the recaps only need to be 60 seconds like a tv movie trailer. Shave 2 mins off each of them and theres a 10 min match.
I like Cody as a champ and the face of the current product, but his title reign feels almost poisoned with how you know they’re just gonna keep the belt on him until they reintroduce the Rock for Mania 41, and then maybe they’ll get someone to take the belt off him… Year+ long title reigns are just exhausting right now after ending a bunch of them this year
6-7 matches for a ple would be perfect
And they do that for Wrestlemania and Summerslam.
Can we atp can we get STORY Designer back in WWE2K Games cause like you said its more about Storylines
The only bad thing that it feels like they wanna go back to the attitude era but they are stock in a mic of Ruthless agresión and the end days of the golden age .
Triple h saved wwe
Well only time will tell weather all these changes are good or not
4:18 I hope it doesn’t get harder to get tickets
I'd like to see some of the TNA talent actually get a win over the NXT talent though. Too predictable that they've lost every match.
The PLEs need more matches, or put some on the god awful pre show
Bring back opening titles
More entertainment and highlighting more talent?! I’m in! If you’re a wrestling “fan” why wouldn’t you want more wrestling that math just doesn’t make sense to me lol 😂
Money in the bank is too close to Summerslam, and I think it should be left as be. 2 of the big 4 are two nights, and the other 2 Are 1-day mega shows
40 views 3 minutes bro flew up
lol thanks for watching
Definitely still not better than AEW ,need more titles, less boring preschool move restrictions, more crossovers with other promotions l😢
They need to stop having every story and every title reign be super long.
Honestly I wish they didn’t have any 2 night shows they already have like 5-/0 mins of filler between matches boo that
Question for everyone.
0:46 I hate it honestly!
PLE and PPV are the same thing just streaming one and the other you just pay as you view it for a higher price $80.00 vs. $10.00 you pick
Top wrestlers wrestle less because it just makes sense. If you are going to put a belt on someone or package someone as a main event tier character, you would want to protect your investment. Making them wrestle every single day just creates more chances to get injured.
Totally get it , like I said in the video just wish sometimes we’d see a better balance where some of the bigger talents have some matches here and there
So will raw be live still or pre recorded?
We don’t know for sure but I think still live and then on demand after
I want to see 2 nights event PLE
Could we see smackdown and nxt come to Netflix in the future
So I rewatched the Netflix announcement on cnbc (the clip in the video)
And they said “raw, PLE smackdown all the Netflix outside the US”

The problem with that is the roster is old most of the upper card players are 38-45 you can’t have them waiting 3 years for a tittle change. Plus this isn’t the territory days whatever the story calls for.
No one appreciated Trial and error to Vince when he did
Let HHH Cook
It will only apply to the big 4.
You were complaining about Roman not wrestling on TV. Now, see... None of the top champions wrestle on TV 😂 And Cody's story has been utterly boring. Wish Roman had stayed champion.
Ya it seems like you become champ so then they wrestle way less like PLE only 😂
