Imo, the problem wasn't PG itself. It was the execution. Ex. John Cena. PG doesn't have to mean goofy, childish, kissing babies etc. It's still a wrestling show w/grown men & women who are supposedly competing w/ each other. And a lot of times it was just cheesy. It didn't help that the most successful person in the company during that era was fine being a Nickelodeon kids show character.

You made some pretty good points in this video about WWE going TV-PG wasn’t going to so bad! And it’s got me thinking that WWE wasn’t in the worst position when they went TV-PG back in the late 2000s after all! After hearing the announcement that WWE going to have Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown on the USA Network, I decided then and there to stop watching WWE wrestling from here on out! Even though I decided to stop watching wrestling entirely this year in 2024, I will admit that WWE did have a lot of good moments throughout its run being a TV-PG wrestling show! And personally, if I had the chance to watch WWE wrestling again, the decades that I would choose would be the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and finally the 2010s IMHO! For me personally, the WWE will be the same ever again like back in the good old days of “The Golden Era/The Hulkamania Era”, “The New Generation Era”, “The Attitude Era”, “The PG Era” and “The Reality Era” IMHO!
At around 9:00 minutes in I was thinking about the William Regal thing and maybe it is true he knew. Regal was with him back in wcw. He was considered a good fighter grappler, he partied alot, and he got to see Chris Benoit before the WWF fame. He definitely knew
That’s the huge problem with the WWE back then and the current product of the WWE which result in diehard wrestling fans not watching the product anymore and moving towards the UFC when the UFC was so popular around the mid late 2000sm. WWE lost that edge appeal that was so watchable back then, the dispicable storylines, Bras and Panties matches (albeit it, it’s good if they bring it back if the Women’s wrestlers agree to it), etc. Also Linda McMahon running for senate, the deaths of Eddie Guerrero and yes Chris Benoit, the main reason why they went PG. They also relied on merchandise sales with John Cena being the next Hulk Hogan during the Ruthless Agression era. Same situation ironically with the NFL going PG due to the fact that they show games on Nickelodeon and also kissing up to Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce giving me Triple H and Stephanie McMahon vibes back in the Attitude Era which was annoying as hell and her polarizing figure since her relationship with Travis Kelce lowkey reminds me of John Cena when he moved from Smackdown to Raw in 2005, all the diehard wrestling fans turned on Cena, similar scenario gonna eventually happen with Taylor Swift moving forward.
Unfortunately, a lot of the Gen Z kids will see this era as one of the best out of sheer nostalgia. However, this was when wrestling was watered down and the reason why wrestling fell out of favor in the mainstream. John Cena really is one of the greatest of all time because he single handedly led this CRAP era and prevented the WWE from going bankrupt. But, yeah, this era was complete crap.
Chris Benoit was one of my favorite guys. he looked badass & was all business. I felt like he was a "goldberg-ish" type, where he didn't need to have any great promos, cuz he was intense as hell. I can remember exactly what I was doing when I heard the news of how his life ended & what happened. I couldn't believe it..
19:29 nah you not lyin I remember that segment like it was yesterday live and everything the crowd couldn’t stop cheering for Daniel Bryan yet the segment was about Unifying the Championships and Randy and John obviously going at it again but Bryan was so over even Mark Henry had to give ya boy his props 😂😂
WWE didnt need to go PG. Just like Disney/Modern media did not need to force Diversity Agenda. They "thought" they did but ended up losing more fans and money. WWE is a classic example of what happens when you abandon your core fanbase to appeal to non fans. Today WWE doesnt trend unless an old school wrestler makes a 2 minute guest apoearance or he says something that upsets Twitter
During the 80’s and into the 1990’s, at least up until the steroid scandals took light, and the transition to the attitude era, WWF/E was mainly, for the most part, generally agreed as a PG-like atmosphere, and you did have children attend shows. It was the Monday Night Wars that caused WWF/E to change their focus to become more edgier and raunchy compared to the past. The whole rumbling about a possible return to PG began to take seed in 2005, After We lost Eddie Guerrero from Drug overdose. At that time, pretty much everyone in the WWE, at least most male Wrestlers, and some Women were using roids in the business. That’s when the first health and drug testing programs came out, and, at the same time, they really began to draw heat from critics of the industry saying that they need to tone down their content. However, after the Benoit Incident, the writing was on the wall, WWE could no longer run as a TV-14 product. Had they continued to run as TV-14, Chances were that the WWE would suffer financial losses from withdrawing sponsors, as well as the fans, especially the growing younger demographic, whose parents would not be okay with letting their children attend WWE events (with the content that they had in 2002-2008) and as a result, ticket sales would’ve dropped. In addition, the move to PG actually helped with the health and well being of the wrestlers themselves. No longer were they taking risks with steroids, which does more harm than good the longer it is taken, (As well as an improved mental state so long as proper withdrawal techniques are used for a prolonged period of time to stay off the Roids), which helped lengthen the careers of some wrestlers who would have stopped wrestling had they kept on using steroids. While one can claim that the PG change killed off the enjoyment of WWE that was found in the edgier continent and more skillfully executed and aggressive matches, the argument can also be made that the move to PG was a necessary step in the evolution of the industry.
I personally think that it was a change that HAD to be made when they did it. No telling how many other wrestlers we could have lost, or have their careers shortened by injuries than we did, especially the younger wrestlers, had the wellness and content changes not have taken place. You could definitely question whether or not The WWE would still be as big of a part of entertainment today if they kept TV-14.
Kids love WWE so making it PG was a good decision on that part. A lot of parents didn’t want their kids watching dirty content that was on there previously
That was probably only thing needed over the years. WWE didn't need to go PG, but WWE/WWF treating women like bimbos and eye candy while popular in attitude era looks creepy now.
Damn, it would be cool to get a reaction from Bubba Dunk Funkin since you put a photo of him😂, but still, I'd take anything from 2008-2013 over what we have nowadays
Tbh I take the PG era as imperative to WWEs current development. Because of the banning of chair shots and thanks to the neutered storylines, it’s given people time to think of new ways to take the sport even further while being more creative. Now I’d imagine it can be like the attitude era, minus the chair shots
As proven in Modern Media and Modern Disney media flopping, watering down and censoring entertainment always causes more harm than good. Movies, videogames, TV shows. WWE made plenty of unnecessary changes. Today, most popular events in wrestling is some 5-minute clip of maybe some guest appearance.
Well in 2008-earlier 2010 was alright the PG format but it got stale after the years and does not work anymore. But regardless if they go to TV 14 or MA that will not make the show good because they need storylines.
well no kidding lmao, undertaker, batista, shawn michaels, triple h were wrestling more commonly around that time, and kane was booked strong, then most of them left or transitioned to part time after wm26 or middle of 2010, and boom, wwe feels shallow and empty, thats why I don't believe in goat debates, it takes a roster, not 1 guy, otherwise we wouldn't notice anything as long as cena is the face guy of the company, but losing just those guys created a shift to a downward spiral with the product, hmmm
This dude lol when he said WWE youtube page has over 100mill subscribers which is true, then he Said all their videos get views but all he did was he scroll really fast that we couldn't see how many views those videos have gotten and it's nothing compare to the subscribers they have. I just knew there was some bullshit involved with this video.
Imagine only reason you like Enzo is because he dressed cool(trash) and his shoe game was good That's good criteria for a good wrestler man. Wonder why he didn't last 😂
2016 WWE PPV Event held in brand new buildings. The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and the home of the soon be ready Vegas Golden Knights NHL team, that held Money in the Bank and the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento California and home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, held WWE No Mercy. That I went to see No Mercy Pay-Per-View event on the night before my birthday
For me my problem with the pg era is that the matches and booking felt so hollow. The storylines felt like Saturday morning cartoons. I grew up watching wwe in 2005. The storylines during the ruthless aggression had heart and it felt like a lot was on the line. For me that’s why 2012 was the cut off date in wrestling for me until 2023. I’m just hoping they bring back blading in some form.
You deserve a thumbs down for the Ozzy statement. I assume you either want to include his personal life in that rather than his body of work. Not when a 60 second unsolicited clip of him on stage now being able to gain over 1m views on a page with less than 300 people. Come on man... other than that.. the video was dope.
I love me some Dominik Mysterio! But I miss Jimmy Uso and I hope he comes back and somehow the og Bloodline gets back together. But I doubt that will happen
Outside of merch. Sponorship is how wwe makes there money. During the attitude and Ruthless agression era they couldn’t get the major ones likes Coke o cola, mc Donald’s, subway, 7-11 etc. so that’s partly why wwe went PG. others is the deaths and such. Being PG doesn’t mean u have to be Disney like. But it means u have to watch what you say and or do
Idc what type of cte brotha what you realize there’s football players with cte that murdered people your blatantly ignoring the problem if he was actually tested for roids and chairshots were banned and any move that hurts the brain nun of that would have ever happened
Summerslam 2008 was PG. All they needed to do was keep the writing up to a higher standard. Wwe was pg well before the attitude Era and ruthless aggression Era as well. As far as i can remember only raw was tv14. Smackdown rarely was rated tv14. Maybe once or twice off the top of my head. Edge vs Undertaker in the cell was proof they COULD still do good stories. CM punk and Jeff Hardy is another one. People over hate PG, in some areas they are right. In others I think they just were fed up with the product being stale for them.
Nobody will ever convince me that the pg era was a good thing.

He has given a reasonable explanation for saying what he did. If he knew I don't think he would have taken part in the tribute, would you have?
The ninja really said the rock was whack...😂😂😂 foh
Fantastic video! Awesome channel name! Love it ❤
Thank you 🙏much love Brodie
Great video man 💪
14-16 bein your fav wwe years is insane lol… gotta be under 23 lol
Yeah we 21😂
I'm 20 and I don't even think that
I thought the same
That’s the huge problem with the WWE back then and the current product of the WWE which result in diehard wrestling fans not watching the product anymore and moving towards the UFC when the UFC was so popular around the mid late 2000sm.
You’re saying dumb shit
2014-2016 and WrestleMania 30, you need to talk about the importance of WWE Network. The price itself got over so much with the crowd
Was gonna scroll past this one but brothers of production made me chuckle so I'll watch the vid😂👌🏼
You earned a like and a sub
Unfortunately, a lot of the Gen Z kids will see this era as one of the best out of sheer nostalgia. However, this was when wrestling was watered down and the reason why wrestling fell out of favor in the mainstream. John Cena really is one of the greatest of all time because he single handedly led this CRAP era and prevented the WWE from going bankrupt. But, yeah, this era was complete crap.
Relax
Fair point
It went "crap" because it went mainstream. Once you make it big you can't do alot of the stuff you use to...
that prevented the wwe from going bankrupt comment is funny asf, wwe didn't have comp, so it would not have went bankrupt ever anyways
@@Mr.Jaquaveon2k i started watching wrestling in the year 2000 and it was very mainstream back then

I would take any ERA over the thunderdome NO THANK YOU
The thunderdome era sucked but it was better then nothing.

Great video🔥
Brock Lesnar was like the only good thing in 2015
You forgot the Samoa Joe vs Brock Lesnar feud and matches. Those were some of the Great Moments of that crappy era.
A Dark Light?? 8:37 Its a Dark Cloud lmaoo. Good video though. I subscribed
Mark Henry outdrew Christian as World Heavyweight Champ .
Cena, RKO, and Batista should have been the group. SIMPLE.
i can’t down the pg era honestly because this was my era that i grew up with and it had its moments can’t even lie.
Do I even watch men’s wrestling? No. But did I sit through this entire video? Yes. I actually really enjoyed listening to you talk about this😂
Damn thank you 😂🤞
14:12 Not the SpongeBob music 😂
This is fantastic video
My entire childhood

Pretty sure if he wanted to say RIP Chris he would’ve said it in the video

WWE didnt need to go PG. Just like Disney/Modern media did not need to force Diversity Agenda. They "thought" they did but ended up losing more fans and money.
WWE is a classic example of what happens when you abandon your core fanbase to appeal to non fans. Today WWE doesnt trend unless an old school wrestler makes a 2 minute guest apoearance or he says something that upsets Twitter
Good job! Subscribed 😀
Def Rebel gone! 🦀🎶🦀🎶🦀🎶

2005...was..."pointy tip of the spear" peak of the RA era...my opinion
This era IS ass, and Ozzy is not an icon.
I will concede that this is better than current wrestling though.
So many shit takes in one comment.
The end of WWE until maybe 1 year ago under Triple H... was the PG Era.
This was the era I really got into WWE.
Kids love WWE so making it PG was a good decision on that part. A lot of parents didn’t want their kids watching dirty content that was on there previously
womens rev started when Aj cut that promo imo. the enforced it when they brought up the next girls
That was probably only thing needed over the years. WWE didn't need to go PG, but WWE/WWF treating women like bimbos and eye candy while popular in attitude era looks creepy now.
11:58 That was a fire photo.
@@theonlygoodonehere22592009 feels like ruthless agression afterthought

Start watching WWE in 2007 to 2012, until now I have some main events like Royals Rumbles
Cm Punk and Drew got you
You deserve a thumbs down for the Ozzy statement. I assume you either want to include his personal life in that rather than his body of work. Not when a 60 second unsolicited clip of him on stage now being able to gain over 1m views on a page with less than 300 people. Come on man... other than that.. the video was dope.
I love ozzy Brodie I didn’t mean anything by it. Glad you enjoyed tho🤞
Bro didn’t mention Rey Mysterio once when he was one of the most funnest little acrobats around. 😔
But it means u have to watch what you say and or do
This guy's opinion definitely doesn't represent the majority in the IWC.
We will always love Eddie Guerrero
Idc what type of cte brotha what you realize there’s football players with cte that murdered people your blatantly ignoring the problem if he was actually tested for roids and chairshots were banned and any move that hurts the brain nun of that would have ever happened
Bro juss gon skip past my boi dean🤦🏾♂️

Summerslam 2008 was PG. All they needed to do was keep the writing up to a higher standard. Wwe was pg well before the attitude Era and ruthless aggression Era as well. As far as i can remember only raw was tv14. Smackdown rarely was rated tv14. Maybe once or twice off the top of my head. Edge vs Undertaker in the cell was proof they COULD still do good stories. CM punk and Jeff Hardy is another one. People over hate PG, in some areas they are right. In others I think they just were fed up with the product being stale for them.
