Dawn I'm hugging you right now! I relaxed on Monday, flat ironed and I was so proud of my job....until I exercised yesterday! I have to baby the crown area...but why was it underprocessed. I was going to "fix" it next Monday just before washing it, but Nevermind, I'll wait. I do have to say other than the underprocessing, my hair feels amazing! Operation grow the pixie out..no mullets and healthy hair is coming in! I think I told you I'm getting a trim (professionally) on the 16th and my ends look and feel good. just keeping it that way. Hugs to you for being right and I do mean right on time!

Story of my life currently. I felt it burn rinsed and got deported to “Texlax Country”. I’m about 5 weeks post and I don’t like flit ironing but I had to in order to get it uniformed/ straight straight I’m currently in braids since the weekend to avoid dealing with it. My relaxers are like 12 weeks apart minimum.
Hey, chery0071! Lol @ “deported”! I also like that you put your hair in braids to keep manipulation to a minimum while you wait to relax again. Good move! 👍🏾
🥺 this is exactly what happened to me I just got a relaxer on Wednesday the 29 the front is ok but the back isn't when I comb it it hurts, I was thinking about buying another box to only do the part that's not relaxed but I'm not sure if that's a good idea I have been crying since yesterday 🥺🥺
Excellent video Dolce! 👌🏾 I faithfully use a timer and like to "feel" that new growth when applying relaxer to avoid missing any areas. As for trims, many do not realize that is the key to length retention.😉
I just relaxed today and the ends didn't come out straight and my roots are so good. So thank god I ran to your video because I would have fixed it too soon... Thank you so freaken much ❤️
I was natural and used a textlax kit and I hate it! I want to "fix" it and fully relax but I'm not sure where to start so I was just about to make an appointment! Thank you for this video!
I told the stylist I had 4 month new growth. I and had a consultation. She still unprocessed my hair. I noticed when she install a U part wig, I went out on a rainy day. My leave out became puffy and frizzy. Also, I asked her why my hair didn’t flat iron straight and sleek like how she does it. I have a baby bliss flat iron. She said “ your hair is 70 % relaxed”. I paid for a relaxer, not a texlax. Well, that’s why I could only do perm rod styles. I couldn’t do sleek wraps styles neither. Thanks for the information.
This was super informative. You might remember how I was a little concerned about my hair being under processed a few weeks ago. I mentioned how I THOUGHT that maybe I only texlaxed it because my hair would start to get fluffy when I let it AIR dry. But I think you're right when toward the end of the video, you said that healthy relaxed hair doesn't necessarily have to be BONE straight. I wanted to experiment with stretching my hair past the 8 week mark because a lot of women do, but I very quickly discovered EXACTLY why you personally like to relax after 8 weeks. It's crazy because RIGHT at that 8 week mark, my hair started to shed a lot more than normal. I was also getting more breakage from combing. Probably because the line of demarcation starts to become more prominent around that time. I tried to hold on but once I hit 9 weeks I couldn't do it anymore! :/ It's crazy because even at the 6-7 week mark, nothing much happened. It was EXACTLY at the 8 week mark. I think I'll stick to relaxing every 8 weeks now. I haven't had any over processing at all from doing so.
Hey, Mimi! So glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I remember you voicing your concerns; glad they’ve been assuaged. And, yeah, you will definitely be left with more texture when air drying. Yep, I can get to 9 wks if I reeeeally hold out, but 8 is definitely my sweet spot. I commend you for trying, though. Bless your heart… Lol 😉 But I’m thrilled that your touch up went well and that your hair continues to do well!! Great job, Mimi!
My last relaxer after attempting a transition was a disaster. I was going for a texlax look but failed miserably and now my hair is straight at the roots and ends and underprocessed in the middle to the point where it looks like it was never relaxed. I feel as if my roots take way too fast for me to do everything at touch up. I'm going to do it in two parts, one corrective to the middle parts next week (2months post) and then normal touch up in october (3 months post).
Hey, dollyrevenge98! I’m sorry your last relaxer did not go well. But I like your tailored approach and that you’re doing the correction 8wks post and then the roots/edges 4 wks after. Please let me know how everything turns out!
Yes, I needed this advice 🙌 I think my hair is under processed at the ends causing the unability to foam wrap and no heat style my bang area, which is in a pixie cut. Yes it's annoying as I love my relaxed hair but I can't style it. So it's like a bad hair day everyday till I get to my stylist. It got wet when it snow recently and been messed up since. I want a scarf, Eco Style gel or scissors! Thanks again for putting this together ❤️
Hey, Itsjennijen! You are so welcome! I know all about consecutive bad hair days. Had those when I lost my hair, but everything will turn out OK. And I say get all three (scarf, EcoStyler AND scissors)! But just don’t use the scissors just yet; leave that to the stylist when you go.😏 And when you do go and if you care to holla back, let me know how it all turns out for you! 😉
I remember one time I relaxed my hair from being natural and I was growing out an undercut. The top part of my hair relaxed beautifully, but the bottom was severely under processed and I couldn’t wear my hair out because it looked really weird lol I took a huge risk and re-relaxed the underprocessed part two weeks later. I did a hard protein treatment (2 weeks)before the relaxer and let it be. I was playing with 🔥 and thank goodness my hair didn’t fall out of my head 🤣 I also avoided heat or any type of tension so it could rest, and I had very little breakage if I remember correctly. Now would I do that again? Absolutely not 🤣 I got very lucky.
“Texlax Country” hilarious. I feel I am visiting, between sweating, the heat and menopause!! My hair is not straight straight. Lol Keep informing and inspiring.
Hello! I’m crying right now because all my hair was gone when I combed it.. It’s really under processed and I really don’t know what to do. I’m scared to loose my hair. Hey, Orchidea! If after two tries your hair still didn’t come out right, I would say that something else is amiss. Overall, how healthy is your hair? Was it dry, damaged or have straggly ends before you relaxed? When was your last trim? Do you use grease, oils or pomades in your hair (which can cause the relaxer not to take)? Was this initially a virgin relaxer? If not, how often do you relax? What you think may be under processed hair may actually be over processed hair… No matter what the real issue comes down to, I would NOT re-relax that portion of hair again. I would stick to a good maintenance schedule of trimming my ends and keep everything healthy until the next touch up, which should be no less than 8weeks later. At that time, I would ONLY do the roots/new growth. Constantly putting a relaxer/chemical on already relaxed hair - under processed or not - is going to do nothing but compromise its health.
@@DolceDawn ooooh 🥺🥺🥺thanks a lot for your prompt answer.🙏🏼🙏🏼 Well my hair was a little damaged because I've wear lose twist with weaves for 1 month and a half; my ends were´nt protected enough... A big mess, I confirm, but I had a trim recently, 2 weeks ago. I used a little bit of olive oil on my hair after I washed it, 7 days before the relaxer (I did pre-poo with aloe and oils, protein treatment an deep conditionned). No it was a retouch after 6 months stretching.I self-relaxed, it was a mistake, and in the back of my head, my hair is kinkier than the front. I think that I´ve stretched my relaxer for too long (6 months) well usually I relax twice a year, but this time it seems that I had more new growth. Thank you, I´ll wait as you say. But please, I don´t use heat in my hair, do you have other tips to maintain the two textures and avoid max breakage please? Thanks again. God blesses you🥰🥰🌷🌷
@@orchideayaug6289 Yes, please wait and I would pare down my regimen to just the 1-2-3s: a GOOD shampoo, GOOD conditioner (including leave-in) and moisturizer. If you have to deep condition, do so once a month. Do not overwhelm your hair with protein treatments as they could be making it drier. Just simple TLC with the 1-2-3s. And I would use low manipulation styles while dealing with the two textures until your next relaxer day. God bless you, too! ♥️
Hi Dolce Dawn, My niece recently got a Lye relaxer which was under processed in several areas on her virgin hair. Most of the roots 2 - 3 inches out are smooth but the rest of hair has textured look. Can a No-Lye relaxer be used on top of that Lye relaxer to correct it and smooth the hair? How long should she wait to do corrective relaxer application? Your videos are very informative and helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make them.
Hey, Lainey! My pleasure! Changing up from no-lye/lye at the roots or new growth is generally not a problem, but I would NOT advise putting no-lye on hair that’s already been relaxed with lye (or vice versa). May I ask why you want to switch up in the first place? Also, how healthy was her hair before the relaxer (i.e., did she have dry, straggly ends beforehand, etc) and when was her last trim? If her hair is indeed under processed - as annoying as it may be - I would leave it alone and stay on top of its maintenance, making sure it’s trimmed and healthy until touch up time about 8 or more weeks later. Then and only then would I switch to no-lye and apply it ONLY ON THE VIRGIN NEW GROWTH AT THE ROOTS.
Relaxed for the first time 6 weeks ago and it came out textlaxed, 4c to 4a, just did it again today 6 weeks later and it’s the exact same underprocessed and curly, it’s so annoying. How many more try’s my hair could hold I don’t know
Hey, nandia! Well, clearly there’s something amiss either with the preparation, application or the product. Do you use a lot of oils or pomades on your hair? (This can reduce the efficacy of the relaxer.) How do you apply it? Do you smooth it through or comb it through? (The latter can lead to an uneven application.) How long do you leave it on for? What strength/brand relaxer do you use? I do not recommend Super, but if Normal is not working, you may want to change brands. I agree - I would not keep applying relaxer to my whole head. I would consult with a REAL professional, one who has a true proficiency in haircare and dealing with relaxers/chemicals, and have them assess your issue directly.
@@DolceDawn I washed and deep conditioned my hair a week before, but I hate dry feeling of my hair so I moisturised it 2 days in the week, do you think that would have been the problem. Is relaxer only meant to be put on hair with absolutely NO product in it?
No, when I referred to oils and heavy pomades, I meant using a LOT or an abundance. Without knowing your full regimen (including products you use) and seeing your hair, it could be any number of things. That’s why I suggest going to a professional who can at least see your hair in person and guide you to the next steps to take.
Hey, Indi10! I’m sorry that your relaxer day didn’t turn out as you had hoped. When you say “not as straight”, are you saying that it didn’t take at all OR that it did but it’s not as straight as you’d like?
@@DolceDawn my hair was a 4c texture and now is closer to a type 4a/3c texture. Still visibly kinky when wet and left to air dry buy was trying to get a loose wavy texture. It did take but not how I wanted
@Indi1O McColn Thanks for answering. Sounds like you were trying to texlax your hair and the end result didn’t match the picture you had in your head (correct me if I’m wrong). As you know, texlaxing can be tricky and the final result can vary. And I’d rather you undershoot than overshoot and have straight relaxed hair since that’s not your desire either. But it’s totally up to you. If you do venture to try again, please wait until normal “touch up” time before attempting.
I figured you might suggest to be patient till the next relaxer, but was secretly hoping you'd say...don't worry, here is a little trick to fix that lol. I went 18 months without relaxing my hair because it was so damaged and wanted to give it a break. I knew it'd a disaster if I did it at home with all that growth...so I paid a lot of money and the hairdresser did a shittier job than I could've done! Now I'm using way to much heat than I intended. I'm going to listen to you on being careful with that heat. It's so frustrating 😫 Thanks so much!
I have relaxed my hair at home for over 20 years without any issues. I usually relax my hair 3-4 times a year only using one brand. I recently relaxed my hair and it was curly looking instead of straight. After washing/conditioning my nappy and difficult to comb through. This has never happened before and I can't style it. Flat ironed and it didnt last 3 hours. Ponytail visibility nappy won't lay down even with product. This isn't going to work for 8 more weeks its already been 4 weeks. Any suggestions?
Hi! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with your hair. It sounds like the relaxer didn’t take for some reason… (Was it an old batch or expired? Did you coat your hair with a lot of oils/products beforehand ?) If you don’t know the cause, what I would do in that situation is I would go to a professional to possibly assess why my hair didn’t take the relaxer and then see if she could silk press it until time to reapply. If you do take this route, please let me know what they say and/or how everything works out.
hi Dolce I'm so happy you made this video. I just self relaxed at home the other day and and everything came out great, but one little spot is under processed idk what to do 😔
Hey, Nya! I wouldn’t worry too much about the little spot. I know it may be slightly annoying, but I would wait until the next time you relax and take care of it then. 💁🏾♀️
OMG… 3x? And it came out under processed? Perhaps the brand of the relaxer or the strength of it was not suitable for your hair? Did you have a lot of product/oils/grease on your hair? Was your hair damaged before relaxing? Sorry you had that disappointing outcome…. I would NOT relax again until I figured out what happened so not to repeat it in the future. Going to a professional could also help.
@@DolceDawn Oh yes and it burnnned lol but its okay. I used the affirm creme relaxer in mild so I don’t know if thats what caused it but honestly it could have been a slew of things. It wasn’t damaged other than some split ends. I did grease my scalp with blue magic.
@@pearlvv Hmm… That’s good that you used Mild, but perhaps greasing your scalp irritated it enough to the point of early burning as well as prevented the roots from getting as straight as desired. Split ends/unhealthy ends can also affect the look and feel of your hair afterwards. Please be careful, Pearl! We don’t need anymore mishaps! ♥️
Ok yes, I’ve been looking for a comment similar to this. My hair was virgin and I used the ORS extra strength relaxer and all I did essentially was go from 4c to 3c on the right side and 3a/b on the left (I did the relaxing only on half my head at a time so I didn’t feel rushed for time). I left my hair alone for one week and which I did not wash it whatsoever before I went in again and did the full process. After re relaxing my hair for the second time essentially looks the same. I’m not really sure what to do, I want to go back in and re-relax with a different brand but I’m not sure if that would fix anything either. Any recommendations?
@Amarachi peter Hey, Amarachi! It could be that the olive oil in the relaxer lessened its effectiveness or maybe you need a different brand altogether. Or it could be your application or something else amiss. Just like with Pearl, I would advise not touching it again until going to a professional who can assess the health of your hair and possibly address what went wrong.
Hello, how are you? This is off the under processed hair topic. At the end of July I had told you I lost a lot of hair and it was thin, short and all broken. Well I'm HAPPY to report that as of my last relaxer which was on Saturday gone, my hair is doing GREAT (Not 100%) back on track but 85% my hair is full and the length is starting to get there! I was afraid I would not have had any hair left on my head after that ordeal. Anyways I'm just HAPPY my hair is bouncy and very nice Lol. I hope you have a great night and stay safe. 😊
Hey, Blue! How are you? Soooo glad to hear that your hair is doing well!! YESSSS! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Such good news! Keep it up ‘cause you’re on your way from 85% to 100%! Thank you for sharing this. Hope you have a great day/evening, too! 😉♥️
I just did a virgin relaxer using ORS lye relaxer. My roots are beautifully straight but the middle and ends are still very much curly like 4a texture. I want to re-relax but I don’t want to have to wait 8 weeks 😭. I bought aphogee protein treatment and I’m going to continue doing weekly deep conditions and use my Olaplex 3. Do you think 4 weeks is too soon for a corrective relaxer?
Hey, Chichi! I, personally, would wait until it was time for my touch-up (8wks), but there are those who have done a corrective relaxer after four weeks and then their full touch up four weeks later, so it’s really up to you. Either way, before you re-relax those parts, make sure that what you’re “correcting” isn’t damaged hair/split ends. Hopefully your hair was healthy to begin with, but if not, what may look like under-processed hair may actually be damaged hair/split ends. Always stay on top of your trims! Whatever you decide, let me know how it turns out. 👍🏾
What if you went from natural to relaxed and your whole head came out underprocessed? My hair is still very curly (didn’t want) and I don’t know how long to wait to correct it 🥲
Hi, Diamond! I’m sorry your hair did not turn out as expected. I, personally, would wait at least for weeks before re-relaxing and process it for half the allotted time (or until smooth). Make sure to avoid a lot of heavy pomades/oils that week, too, as it can cause your hair to under process as well.
@@DolceDawnHola.

Hey, Blessing Akpan! After you relaxed, did you trim your hair? If only the tips or ends of your hair seem under processed, I would advise trimming them. This will alleviate the potential for breakage as well as give you a healthy, clean slate to grow from.

Then and only then would I switch to no-lye and apply it ONLY ON THE VIRGIN NEW GROWTH AT THE ROOTS.
yep i lost much hair because not trimming
Hey, happy haptoe! Yes, trimming is so crucial to hair health and growth.
@@DolceDawn might have to, thank you
@@nandiagabriel944 You’re welcome. ♥️
Notified!!
🤩*PULLS MY SEAT* maaan i can testify here toooo.
Many of us can, LadyQuo! Happens to the best of us…
🥺 I’m afraid now to redo my entire head over. I just did a virgin relaxer and it didn’t come out as straight.
It's so frustrating 😫
Thanks so much!
@@florenceka8364 Oh, I know all about the frustration, Florence. Definitely. But it’s all a process… and you WILL rebound and recover! 💁🏾♀️😉
If you do take this route, please let me know what they say and/or how everything works out.
my hair normally felt thin nope it was dull and thick
I hear you, happy haptoe. Under processed hair can look dull.
Hi, which relaxer brand you use?
Hi, Manal! I use Ultra Precise Relaxer in Mild.
hi Dolce I'm so happy you made this video. I just self relaxed at home the other day and and everything came out great, but one little spot is under processed idk what to do 😔
Hey, Nya! I wouldn’t worry too much about the little spot. I know it may be slightly annoying, but I would wait until the next time you relax and take care of it then. 💁🏾♀️
@@DolceDawn okay, I was thinking that thank you so much love your videos 💗💗💗
@@blackbratz90 You’re so welcome! ♥️♥️♥️
I just relaxed my hair 3x in the same hour and by the grace of God I still have hair on my head but ITS STILL under processed🤦🏾♀️
Hey dear Dolce😊
Hey, Kurlymeka!! 🤗♥️
Do you blow Dry and flat iron every week? After washing
Hey, Emily! Yes, I wash, blow dry and flat iron my weekly.
@@DolceDawn I'm good, thank you! 😊
Thank you for this video. I have a question though. I just relaxed my hair and my roots are bone straight but my tips are under processed. Is it advisable to manage the two different textures without correcting the under processed tips?
Hey, Blessing Akpan! After you relaxed, did you trim your hair? If only the tips or ends of your hair seem under processed, I would advise trimming them. This will alleviate the potential for breakage as well as give you a healthy, clean slate to grow from.
Do you work for Google?
Hey, Tracey! No, I don’t.
I revisited this video and myself in an underprocessed situation as of today ..this video is SO INFORMATIVE..THANK YOU SO MUCH @DolceDawn
