I have helped a bunch of Seniors with this. Firstly start at the G (easier to press down than right at the nut), 2nd the Barre finger is not necessarily a straight line (stop looking at it and Listen). That was my path to success.
I also played all chords for a couple weeks without using my thumb at all. Found how little pressure was needed.
    Listen - Don't Look.

There is another great tip which helped me A LOT: place the forefinger not between the frets, but as much as possible closer to the right, almost above the metal bar. This way you would need to apply much less force. This is clearly visible in this video btw ;)

Wow one crucial bit of info here instantly transformed my nemesis.. that pesky bar chard. Your advice on the elbow is a game changer. Subtle but makes all the difference.
As a self taught guitarist, learning from you and others on UA-cam, I have ignored the bar chords for too long. So gave it a go a few months back and persevered. But always struggling with the transition to it from a regular open chord. Thinking more about the placement of that elbow really helps. Now to get some reps in 💪🏻thanks man.

Dear, love it, when you come with a new chapter.Every class feels like we are primary students and you are a very nice person and of course a guitar which is our toy.I want to say one thing. I really want to know.
Whenever we sit down to practice the guitar for 30 minutes or 1 hour or more, how do we organize the practice lessons?
Maybe those who get you as a teacher from the front are lucky. Many of us have tried and will for years but don't know where to end up. Stay well and we will practice when we get off work.

This seems like good advice I just absolutely cannot squeeze hard enough to press all of that down. My thumb cant support it!

also as a beginner myself i found out that you dont really have to bar all the 6 strings, only the ones that would be open, because the other ones that play the E chord are being already pressed, so you should only be trying to press on the first 2 thinnest strings and on the thickest one
