It was his eyes that always caught me off guard. No, not the makeup...the deep black pits where the color should be. Perfect for a pathological hypnotist take on the Mad Hatter, a character always attributed with mind control/manipulation.
@@ebonyofthestarsidk to me they were always black, but one thing I noticed in the first hypnosis scene, is that when he tells the person to look into his eyes, the light in his eyes leaves completely for a moment. Once the person is hypnotized, the light comes back
One of Gotham’s most well done villains. Almost up there with Penguin, Ed, and the Valeska brothers with how brilliantly and uniquely characterized as a villain he was.
The Riddler was my favourite, but yeah also Professor Pyg and others. It was fun trying to guess who was who. Some were just silly tho, I remember starting it from the beginning and thinking the balloon guy might have put ppl off. I was lucky to know it would improve.
This is the best version of mad hatter I absolutely love how they showed how mind controlling can be scary and how evil and dangerous he is as a villain his full potential of evil is portrayed PERFECTLY
Im going to go as far to say that Jervis Tetch (Benedict Samuel) came across as one of the greatest Villians I have ever watched in this. Everything from his walk, the way he talked, moved was just immense! Would love to see Benedict Samuel in a Batman film as Mad Hatter
I like to think that during the time when Gotham had been cut off from the mainland, Jervis was captured by or joined one of the minor gangs, as some kind of intelligence or spy.
My favourite moment is when he drops the Rhyme Scheme and simply tells Jim "DO IT OR I'LL KILL SOMEONE!!" That's pretty much every villain in Gotham in a Nutshell.
Besides Tweedledum and Tweedledee in season 3, season 5 could've shown Hatter with his own Wonderland gang. He would have multiple thugs with rabbit masks under his control. He could've even had Humphry Dumpler/Humpty Dumpty as his body guard. Imagine Hatter trying to make Selina as his Cheshire Cat. Or use Tabitha. He could've even try to hypnotize Lee to think she is the Red Queen so she could kill Jim and she would say "Off with his head!"
What never made sense to me, even for a complete psychopath, jim didnt fire a bullet or do anything(he was under tetch's hypnosis) yet he still blamed jim for the death of Alice? I dont follow at all
He's a paranoid schizophrenic, there are unexplainable lines and thoughts around James Gordon and his sister's death, because he made them himself or like his mind said him
Tetch believed that Alice genuinely loved him and Jim put thoughts in her head that he was bad. Obviously this isn’t the case and it’s the opposite so when she accidentally killed herself he blames Jim for it. Hope this makes sense.
this is somthing i really liked about the show, it started off as if it was going more in the Nolan direction (what if batman but real life) but then they slowly started to slip in the people with powers by starting off small with abnormalities or masteries of a skill, and then started to throw in the meta humans and superpower stuff
While it was still cool with the direction of the character they went with, it would've been cool if they went with their original idea teased in season 2 in which Hugo Strange makes him think he's the Mad Hatter after being brought back to life. If they did this, it could've even been a way to introduce Maxie Zeus onto the show.
Idk I feel as if that wouldn’t have been as good as what we did get, as this version is a lot more interesting and complex than “brainwashed cosplayer”, but you’re entitled to your own opinion
I hated this guy because he was protect by plot armor at every step. In any sensible world he'd not have been taken into custody, he'd have been shot in the head a dozen times for each instance the police put the sociopaths above the innocent. I hated Gordon for permitting him to live and murder countless others... all of the 'rogues gallery' were allowed to murder as many people as they wanted.
Goes to show just how corrupt the government and cops in Gotham are. The villains keep breaking out because Arkham is understaffed, with outdated security systems, and bribable security guards/doctors. And many of the inmates are geniuses. No wonder they keep breaking out.
my only problem with this Jervis “Mad Hatter” is they made him kill the girl victims which i thought his whole thing is a master of delusion (from hypnosis or drug or whatever) that has deluded himself into thinking his victims are Alice. which doesnt make sense if he kills the “Alice” (if he kills her he isnt really deluded himself into thinking his victims are Alice) that destroys the philosophy of “master of delusion is himself deluded in his own reality” its just my opinion. im fine with changing him from halucinogenic drug into hypnosis but making him a pedophile and a rapist would be more disturbing than making him a killer.

Does that mean if you’re staring into his eyes you’re staring into the abyss?
As far as I've noticed they're only pitch black when hes hypnotised a person. If nobody's hypnotised they're a dark brown

This character made me uncomfortable in a good way whenever he's on screen. He has the right balance of charm and creepiness
This is what I love about Gotham
Even minor villains got their own styles and subplots

The Riddler was my favourite out of everyone, good and bad.
They did such an excellent job with this character. Gave him an arc and all.
But then he kind of disappeared at the end.

That's every villain with Batman tbh-

This villain and riddler get on batman nerves lmao, damn he did good as the mad hatter tho
To be fair Jervis had every reason to be angry he didn't kill alice and even if he did he didn't want to
The way he Hypnotize someone is so iconic
This show proved why The Mad Hatter is one of Batman’s most psychologically dangerous and terrifying adversaries and not just some c-lister.

Jervis Tetch was one of my favorite villains!! Gotham was a brilliant series!!
I like the scene where Jim questions him in Arkham and they just rattle off those rhymes in seconds. Great scene for both of them.

That's what always happens in the comics with Batman's bs no kill rule.
You do got to feel bad for him especially when Alice died
I don't. He sexually abused Alice. I feel bad for her.

He's always been a paedophile and a rapist it's literally his origin story as for the drug delusion no in the comics Jarvis was a hypnotist
So well done
He debuted in Season 3?
Thought that he was there much longer already
