For me it was 61C, 1969 to 1984. 2 years in Saigon in Newport Harbormasters. Tug boat company. 2 tours in Panama, Balboa pier 20 LCMs, a J-Boat, 1972 -1975. 1975 - 1983 in Ft. Eustis, 5th before they went to Hawaii, then tug company then on LCUs again. Then 1983 - 1984 Camp Davies Atlantic side LCMs. 1980 - 1983 in Glen Burnie at an Army Reserve tug boat company as active duty Sergeant. Times have changed.
I was in the Navy and served briefly with Assault Craft Unit 2 at Little Creek back in the 60s. We called LCUs “U Boats”. I had no idea the Army also operated them.
Best M.O.S. for transition from Soldier to Civilian. Get that U.S.C.G. license run a Ferry Boat, party boats, work on canals, water front construction, vessel, work with the corp of Engineers, Fire Departments, tug Captains, bulk carriers on Great lakes, so many jobs. Crew Boats.
Im a warrant at flight school, who is about to be medically disqualified. I am hoping to go Boatie instead. Any big advice? Id love to get into contact with someone to discuss
I was a cook in the Navy, stationed on the USS Ogden LPD-5 out of San Diego, CA. Is it possible for me to be a cook on an Army vessel? That would be cool!
The MOS is 88K. Take a read. It's really a fun MOS. There are only a few stations around the world so you won't move around much, but you will see a lot of places. www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/browse-career-and-job-categories/transportation-and-aviation/watercraft-operator.html
david jastrzenski I totally agree with that question and raise the same one myself. What’s the point of having 6 different branches when all of them do the same stuff?
Because the Navy will not supply the Army when they need it and where they need it. Kind of like the Air Force with the A-10 Warthog. The army needs close air support and the A-10 is probably the best aircraft ever to serve this purpose. The Air Force has tried for years (decades) to get rid of these aircraft and it has taken action by Congress to prevent them from doing so.
Loved my time serving in the Army as a Watercraft Engineer 88L10 (1990-94). Cool to see this video. Thanks for sharing
WHAT DID YOU GET OUT OF THAT experience ?

I was there, Pier 20, Balboa. 1972 to December 1975.
Then 1983 to 1984 at Ft. DAVIES on Atlantic side

Why not just leave the boats to the Navy?
Why not leave helicopters to the airforce?
Everybody has helicopters, but the army did leave fixed wing aircraft to all the other branches
To cut out the middle man.
