  • The 2013 Super Bowl was arguably the best offense in NFL history vs the best defense in NFL history, yet the game ended in a blowout; the worst night of Peyton Manning’s life. Super Bowl winner, MVP, All-pro, Manning did it all, but on that one night in New Jersey, Super Bowl 48, he had an absolute miserable experience. The Legion of Boom with Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas were at peak powers, and they completely dominated the Broncos 43-8. Now 10 years later it’s time to find out: what in the absolute hell happened? This week’s episode uses the coaches all 22 to analyze how the Legion Of Boom gave Peyton Manning the worst night of his life.

@@Dawg-Boneas a 49ers fan, I doubt it. Peyton killed the 49ers when he was with Denver. Sherman said they had cracked Peyton's code words and, if he had realized it, he could have switched it up and baited them and forced them to play "honest defense", but they were prepared for everything.
We never saw that from Harbaugh and Fangio. Instead, we saw teams do that to the 49ers. When they brought in Rams backup safety to be their safety, he said the Rams knew the 49ers plays, and it was obvious.
Nah, I think SF would just have 4 lost super bowls by now and we would truly be the modern day Vikings and Bills. 5-4 while going 0-4

It wasnt until i heard a quote from coach DeMeco Ryans where it started to make sense on the mindset with these elite defenses. He said there aren’t holes in a defense, they are killzones. Its were defenders have a chance to make a huge hit against an unsuspecting receiver. Cam was probably the best at following that philosophy. They would allow these short yardage catches which would give them chances at a huge hits that would rattle receivers

Is it possible that Manning didn’t throw the comeback routes that beats Cover 3 because he didn’t have confidence in his arm strength? Those type of throws require not just timing (aka protection) but also a strong throw.

    • @carlosadeleon
      @carlosadeleon 2 місяці тому +9

In an interview or analysis video, I learned that Manning adjusted to his loss of arm strength by using his lower body more. He more purposefully stepped into throws and very much swiveled his hips. He was full body throwing much more than before - which is saying something because he’s always been technically sound.
But that doesn’t mean he was making all the throws - that deep out/comeback route, especially to the far side of the field, probably requires the most arm strength of any route.

Losing Jeremy Lane in the first quarter meant the LOB didn’t have enough bodies to cover everyone for the rest of the game. Tharold Simon was the weak point and Brady exploited it. It still wouldn’t have been enough had Cliff Avril not left the game with a concussion too. NFL is a war of attrition and it finally caught up to the LOB in that game - yet they still could have won if not for the worst play call in Super Bowl history

    • @jrad410

@@danpshop problem was bigger than that. Lane never was gonna be covering gronk in that game. Lob still held the pats to 14 points until the last 9 minutes of the game. If you look at the stats, Brady always put up numbers against that style of defense

@@danpshop Problem was far greater than just Simon. Gronk forced the Seahawks to show their hand, and the Patriots could just send him wide, you put a linebacker on him, it's a gimme, you put Sherman on him, well they have a WR running a route at a linebacker now, so it's a gimme. Brady broke the Seahawks, Edelman just made it easier when he rocked lane's world.
Same thing happened to sacksonville, the Pats came at them hard with their mismatches and forced them away from what they were good at, then carved them up
Also if you know football then the goal line pass was quite literally the best playcall. That concept is nearly undefendable, Wilson was just dumb enough to trust a string bean to block the monster than was Brandon Browner. Plus, Lynch never did anything when the real heavies of the Pats were on the field, he was going to get blown up trying to run against an unblocked Chandler Jones and Vince Wilfork.

Peyton was only really great in the playoffs I think when he saw himself as the underdog against the opposing QB. AKA, when he faced Brady. On the back half of his career, when Tom was the one with the hardware, he outdueled the GOAT in 3 AFC championships. Which in many respects saved his legacy. That's just my two cents on playoff Peyton.

The Seahawks dominated that game. But I believe Peyton Manning had already had some neck surgeries by this time and he was struggling later in his career to get anything on the ball. I remember a Monday Night game against the Chiefs where he threw two posts in a row, one that came up woefully short, and the next for a touchdown. And the routes were almost exactly the same. But on the first throw he couldn’t step into his throw to make a weight transfer while the second he could. Peyton could still throw later on in his career - kind of. But it was just under such narrow circumstances it was nearly impossible. Even though he won a Super Bowl later he really should’ve retired at least two years earlier. Marino. Manning. Most QBs retire a couple years late.

Okay but people tend to forget that Peyton played against the full healthy lob, while Brady played against an injured one we are all just blinded by the ideology of Brady carrying

Uh not exactly Browner was gone, Sherman got hurt in game and lost. Brady played better against the lob thats just a fact. Look at his 3 games compared to Peytons 2 against them. Is what it is.

I should unsubscribe from your channel because you released a video about this game. As a broncos fan, I sat down to watch this game. Sat down my six pack, saw the opening snap go over Manning’s head. Never touched a beer that night. Felt like I got hit by a car and it couldn’t be real. I lived through Elway’s Super Bowl routs as well, but this was a real shock.

I think one of the big reasons Seattle came out with such a fire was because they were counted out nobody thought they stood a chance and that was basically the story for every player on that team so it was just in their nature to rise to that occasion on the biggest stage
