- We took the Jeep up to Death Valley and found this abandoned mining cabin.
My internet search on this location came up with a web site claiming history as follows:
1886: Two prospectors were prospecting near the springs. Removed 1200lbs of silver ore netting $800. Returning in the fall both prospectors and potential investors had perished in route.
Dec 1905: Prospectors found the previous location markers, the mine workings and 2 tons of silver ore waiting for shipment. Additional prospects were worked via surface mining till 1907.
1908: Prospectors found a gold deposit valued $25k per ton but later found to be an isolated pocket.
1935: New claim staked for iron ore and the cabin was built. Maintained property to keep claim. Mining continued in a small scale.
1994: National Park boundaries were extended absorbing this property.

Hey, what is that light at 27:18?
It was my Coleman Lantern. I had it on high most of the time because our new wood supply is pine and pops a lot. So, he's now staying away from the fire so I've accommodating with a brighter light for him. This shit does pop a lot to his credit.
