Trail Dog Adventures

Приєднався 21 січ 2020
Trail Dog Adventures is about trips my dog and I do in our Jeep Wrangler.
My original dog in the early videos is Moe. Sadly he passed in June of 2020 at 14.5 years old.
A few days later I adopted Toby when he was about 9 months old. He's a handful but is a good boy.
Toby is definitely a 2nd generation Trail Dog.
We are based out of Las Vegas, NV so you will see mostly trips in the region.
Our content will be mostly Jeep trail riding/ hiking and visiting ghost towns, mining areas & anything else that we happen to stumble across. We also do an occasional product review.
I hope you enjoy our content & support our channel.

Blair Mill and Townsite, NV

We took the Jeep up to central Nevada and went up to the ghost town of Blair. In 1906 a corporation bought up all of the major mines by Silver Peak, NV. A new townsite was surveyed and the town of Blair was established just north of Silver Peak. In 1907 a 100-stamp mill was built at Blair and a 17.5 mile railroad was built that tied into the Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad. By 1920, the town was d...

We took the Jeep up to central Nevada and went up to the mining camp of the New Reveille Mine. In the early 1900"s there was multiple lead mines established in this area. A head frame and a few building remains are all that's left. This place was established after the town of Reveille (NNE wards) had collapsed when it local mines had depleted. We took the Jeep up to central Nevada and went up to the ghost town of Weepah. Local Indians found shallow pockets of gold in 1902 causing a rush for a few weeks. Gold was rediscovered in March of 1927 assaying at $70k per ton. The discovery got out and the news groups made it bigger creating a gold rush to the area. A wild tent city was created which eventually left the dreamers leaving and th...

We took the Jeep out to the Mojave Desert and visited this abandoned mining smelter site. After sitting idle for 30 years the Copper World mine was reactiveated again. 5 miles away 2 wells were sank and nearby in 1899 a 50-ton furnace was erected and soon 85 men were employed onsite. Over the years operations were off and on and ownership had changed hands. Due to the low cost of copper in 1918...

I can’t seem to move the straps to make it bigger. It’s ridiculous 💀
I don't know what to tell you. It's a basic strap setup.
Your dog is Panting Real Heavy. He Needs Water ASAP!!
Thanks for your concern. He had plenty of shade and water available. It was hot at that time and black dogs don't take to the summer sun too well. Plus, he was excited. I always watch him closely. He wasn't in danger. He just looks that way.🤠🐶
The flag is there to signify that someone is using the cabin. There should be a flagpole outside somewhere.
Correct Mark
Doesn't always get respected unfortunately.
Nice cabin! I've been to most of the ones out there but have seen this one! What is the name of this one?
Sorry I'm not remembering the name off the top of my head. It's out by Dumont.
Another cool place!
Yup
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
It was an amazing sight to see. I was great full to be at the right place at the right time. Thanks for checking us out.
Thank you, P.S. get yourself physically fit, ride a proper tundra bike and those dogs will have to keep up with you. 🚴🏼🚴🏼🚴🏼
Thanks for the advice. My mountain biking days are behind me but the injuries are still here to remind me.
Thank you for this! Just got a used device (430) and there isn't a lot of info about how to start using it. Your video was a great intro.
Glad it was helpful!. Thanks for checking us out.
I have a 11month old hoarding Sheep dog that she gos after everything when walking her she is 75lbs too please help me is this going to help with walking her
Sorry about the delayed response. I'm dealing with this pup issue currently. He's a hunter that has his ears turn off to my commands when he's after critters. He had a lot of issues when I got him and it's been some time but we're getting close to off-leash again hopefully. Honestly, I don't think he really cares. He just like doing things with me which I'm ok with too. Try a large unoccupied dog park if available and work on his return training. That's what we have been doing when possible. I use the GPS collar as a safety net to relocate my pup. The problem with this device is that it's point to point. New tech my provide better overall tracking vs this unit these days.
Don't buy mine lasted one fall of my head.
Mine gets banged around all of the time and I've never had a problem.
How did you get onto Congress from the highway? I don't want to cross private property. Looks like you turn on to Harmon, and then did you go straight south on Johnnie Ave before heading west on Congress, or did you take that SW diagonal road that comes close to someone's property?
I don't recall the road names but there's an unsecured gate on the Pahrump side of Johnnie town. The road carries up the canyon past Congress.
Im not seeing any good reports just hopeful feelings
Can you explain?
@traildogadventures6512 I just got it after 3 days there's a difference
What a tragedy. Just speculating but I wouldn't be suprised if the Wife tried to convince the Husband to go back to the Cabin, because she knew they would be safe there (They have been there before). But his stubborness & not wanting to loose face, he decided to move on.. Also we don't know what State of mind they where then. I can only imagine how all that can f.... up your mind.
All We can assume is that the situation was intensified by the stress of the airline tickets and shortage of money.
@@traildogadventures6512 Yeah no doubt about that. Regardless whatever type of theories people have, it's still a tragedy.
Really sad story poor family and relatives such lost 😢😢
Yeah It's an unfortunate event. Especially bringing children into it.
I guess Howard Hughes could afford the brothel’s services!!
I've heard that the skeletal remains of the adults were found & eventually identified, but the children were never found. Its my belief that the reason why the children weren't found is probably because they died first and the parents buried their bodies. Granted, in shallow graves, but its way harder to find covered bodies then it is to find skeletons laying out on the ground. And Death Valley is too large to just dig in random spots. Very sad story, imho.
You are correct about the adults. The story is still swirling with questions sadly. Thanks for watching our little channel.
Are you sure they buried the bodies? Did they even had the strength for it? I allways assumed that Scavengers took the children due to their size.
@@norwegiangangsta No, I can't be sure. It was a guess. And I make this guess based on these things...Children will succumb to dehydration & hunger much sooner than adults will. If a parent's child dies, they may either not want to leave the dad child behind, or they might worry about scavengers getting to the body. No bones of the children were ever reported to have been discovered. Burying the bodies just makes the most sense to me. But I admit, I could be wrong. And even if scavengers did get to the bodies, there should be some bones discovered of the older child, but they weren't (none that were reported anyway). Also, the adults bones were scattered, so it does hint that scavengers got to them as well. But again, no child size bones were ever found. The parents burying the children in shallow graves just makes the most sense to me, but I could be wrong. And if the parents can continue to walk for a few miles, then they can probably bury a small child in a shallow grave. But again, I can't be sure, its just a guess.
@@paranoyd70 I tought I read somewhere (maybe even on Tom Mahood's blog) that they found some remain of Children Skeleton, but the bones where too try to figure any DNA traces out.
They found a childrens shoe also. As there is no reason to take off the Kids shoes, I guess there were childrens bones found.
Good 'ol Toby🐕

beyond just a great all around review, the optics are just spot on with the background and up close shots. found myself drifting into the background a few times just listing to your low gravelly details. thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed the review. Thanks for watching our little channel.
Their van had everything needed that I believe would have saved their lives. They left to get attention but why not let them come to you? A sign of blak smoke from a burning tire can get rangers and 4-wheelers attention! They could have waited in the air conditioned van. If needed, going through all 5 tires plus brush would have been enough. They should have considered anything to live!
Staying at the Geologist cabin would have been enough. It a question that sadly can't be answered.
The Geologist cabin would have been their best bet and I'm sure that crossed their mind! Sadly though, they chose to walk further in another direction. This was probably because of a time schedule. They might have doubted help showing up soon at the cabin since it was summertime. However, the base had guards 24/7 -- or so they thought. In this case, black smoke from a burning tire would have alerted help probably sooner than at the cabin. My heart goes out for this poor family 🎗️
@@victorcontreras9138 Apparently he was a smoker because they found a pipe in the car. But do you really think they had the strength to jack up the car & get a tire out (all by hand)?
The isolated building was a stage coach depot with a scale. Up the road about a mile is the gravesite of a young boy who died during the town’s heyday. People still leave toys and flowers.
Thanks for the additional information. Thanks for watching our little channel.

I love this video and I'm so happy it worked out for you guys. My dog has just out of nowhere started having these more severe symptoms, yesterday she began walking gingerly and not sitting right, just changed so much in her personality too, a lot of the same symptoms you were discussing. She's been getting this way for a while but now it ramped up and it's bad so I've been searching for something that would help her. I finally came across this product. I know it has great reviews but i wanted an untainted honest review from an average person like yourself and I'm so happy to see that this was the case for you. I'm hoping it works this way for my baby girl Holley a 14 year old Shih-Chi who owns my heart the same way i know your dog does. I'm an now subscribing to your channel and hope to see more videos if you and your best friend😊 best of luck
I'm glad you found this product and thanks for subscribing to out little channel. Unfortunately, Moe passed about 6 months after starting this supplement from a flipped stomach. I believe it was possibly due to long term medications prior to the supplement. Regardless, in his final months he was able to start running again and his medications were cut in half at the surprise to his veterinarian. The meds were maxed out when we started the supplement. I wish you and your fur baby the best in their senior years and make the most out of this time together. That's what lead to starting this channel for us. Thanks for watching. God bless your pup.
I got one of these for a whippet and it is amazing. She runs full tilt when she sees a rabbit. We see 2 or 3 rabbits a walk. With this vest and a bungie leash I have no worries at all about her hurting her long pretty neck. She has a tight stomach and huge chest, like a mini greyhound. Being able to have the straps individually tightened is the best thing about this harness for me.
I'm still having good luck with this vest. Protection our pups is essential especially when they go into hunt mode. As I mentioned, watch it in the heat. It doesn't breathe well. Ruffwear has product that I use and not only protects but is a cooler too in the hot months. Thanks for watching our little channel.
But it's a dry heat...🔥🏜🥵😆
There's no dry heat when the monsoon season arrives. Thanks for watching our little channel.
Did you get a chance to stop by the Ash Meadows resort? I'm not sure if anyone is still there, last time I stopped by with the kids and got a bucket of crayfish out of the pond was 1994.
They probably wouldn't allow crayfish now days. Ash Meadows is a national wildlife refuge nowadays. Can't say that I've visited the ranch but I've traveled through a number of times. Traveling with a pup can be restrictive to where you can go most the time. Thanks for watching our little channel.
@@traildogadventures6512 Yep, the gov is gobbling everything up. Have fun while you can!
I knew Diebert pretty well, let me know if you have any questions. Arthur

thank, you again for you're video. 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching our little channel.
I left that fire extinguisher and a few other things. Love that spot!
It's an awesome place.
Thanks for the video ! Mine just came in last night and loved it it was kinda hard to adjust but thanks for the tip on the heat
I'm glad that I can help. For summer time I switch to the Ruffwear swap cooler jacket and another Ruffwear vest that has what they call the core cooler attachment. The cooler covers the underbelly but you have to buy the nylon top that fits it. Being in the SW desert it's a great summer time choice that makes a big difference for the pups tolerance of the heat. Especially when you have a black dog. The thing about it is carrying extra water to maintain the cooling effects. Thanks for watching our little channel.
Great Job really nice video please keep up the great work 👍
Thanks I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching our little channel and coming along for the ride.
I have a pitsky around 40-50 pounds rn at 7 months. The medium should be fine right? Gotta get him one of these because i have a trolly system outside but every harness i get he literally finds a way out of them or if he cant he literally chews them off by the straps so i need something hella sturdy like this for him
Sorry about the delayed response. If you keep this harness comfortably snug he might not be able to chew on it or escape. Maybe get one of those sprays with the bitter taste for the chewing. Size wise it's always difficult ordering a harness online with hopes that it will fit your pup. Especially when they're still growing. My recommendation would be to wait till the growth stage is over and then make the decision on a final product. If it's a now thing maybe get a low cost harness for now. It depends on the breed and how the pup fills out in their adolescents. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching our little channel.
How does it effect the actusl issue? I ask because if it does happen to make the condition worse from the new bursts of energy is it worth it in the long run* ?
I think that is a question for your vet in regards to your dogs medical condition. I worked with my vet for our situation and he became more active and I was able to cut his meds in half by time he passed from a different unexpected issue. The supplement didn't remove the medical issues but it did give him a better and more active life in his final months. I wish I had given him the supplement earlier than I did. My vet was impressed with the results. Involve your vet in the decision like I did. My situation could be different than yours but I was happy with the results that I saw with my pup.
What roads do you recommend going there with a small pop up trailer?
Death Valley side would probably be best. The road will get rougher after the Warm Spring Camp. If the trailer is set up for off road 4x4 situations you should be good. Low clearance and small tires could be an issue. Current road conditions will vary in the canyon. Thanks for watching our little channel!!!
Thats the 6 buckle
Yup. Thanks for checking out our little channel.
Wow he looks absolutely identical to my sassy, she's a border collie pit mix, and I just ordered the icefang with the molle pouches. Me and her will be doing the AT next year 🙂
Sounds like you've got a good looking pup. I hope the vest works out for you. Thanks for checking out our little channel.
it burned down
Yup. Haven't followed up on it but I'm assuming it was arson.
This mistake-filled tragedy never ceases to amaze me. Driving out into the desert on rough dirt roads in a rental van designed for highway use is nuts. And then to press on, get stuck and walk in a direction away from the old cabin where there was shelter, water from a spring and canned food just does not make sense. Once the guy broke down, the priority should have been to keep everyone alive, and that could have been done by walking back the four miles or so to the stone cabin. It was within reach. They probably would have been there a few or several days until off-roaders or a ranger came by, but at least they would still be alive. So sad the man decided to keep going deeper into wilderness instead of heading back to assured safety. Very bad decision, especially considering the two kids relying on his choices.
I agree His decisions do not make sense. All we have is speculation towards the choices he made. The family's safety should have been priority #1 especially when children are involved. The road conditions starting at Warm Spring camp should have been the turn around point but as you statted, the Geologists Cabin was the safety net. Hopefully this is a story others can learn from. Death Valley can be unforgiving. Thanks for watching.
Very well said. It was practically a suicide mission when they could have turned back at almost any point up until it was simply too late.
The cabin had an American flag & a tent-pole, with the intention being that you raise the flag on the pole to let people know that there are people in the cabin, which is supposed to aid in finding people stuck. But the family didn't know this and never considered this. They ended up leaving the cabin & taking the flag with them as a souvenir. And I agree, they should have trekked their way back to the cabin, which they had to have known had food & a water source & shade from the sun. I can't understand why they didn't do this? My guess (& this is just a guess) is that the children perished and that tragedy put them in a defeated state of mind. ??? My first thought would be shelter, but if my kids died, shelter would take a back seat.
It was nice meeting you labor day Saturday at Delamar.
Thats awesome. You found us. Sorry the road out wasn't in better condition. I didn't factor in the recent rains. I hope you enjoyed your trip there. Thanks for checking out our little channel!!!
Thank for posting this video answered many questions we / me and my brother was there for the first time just before sundown today . Would love to see what it looked like back in the day. We were up there and the area was hit hard by a flood and the roads are gone and I'm sure the earthquakes recently have aged it even more

Thanks for the video. Our dog has really bad arthritis and hip dysplasia. I just ordered a 30 day dose of Extend. Hope it improves his life.
I wish I had started the supplement much earlier than I did. But it did allow his last 6 months to be more active. I have recommended this product to others and they were amazed on how it improved their dogs quality of life. Thanks for checking out our little channel.

I'm not 100% sure. The shelter had him as a lab mix but I think he might be a mix of lab, Shepard and chow.

is this harness escape proof from back slip?
I have had one escape. I believe that the harness wasn't adjusted properly. Its been about a year since it happened and I didn't see it. Thanks for watching!!!
@@traildogadventures6512So informative, was looking for this response too wondering it you’ve had any escapes in this harness before I buy. Have you had any other issues of escaping in this one since then?
@kai9129 if you keep the harness adjusted properly I don't see an issue with slippage. The lower harness comes down from the neck and between the front legs, connects to clips from the top on the main chest area and then clips to the top again where the rib cage ends. I've never had him slip out since he has become full sized. We've had this harness for quite a while now and it's still holding together. Just a little discolored from years of use but still looks cool.
@@traildogadventures6512 awesome, thanks I appreciate it so much, I actually just ordered this right now! My shiba slipped out and escaped her harness just earlier today! 😭
Good video. We were there in 1975, and there was a lot more of the town still standing. Then the nearby open pit mine expanded when the price of gold and silver skyrocketed in 1979. When I was next there, in 1990, much of the town had been destroyed by the mining operation. Next to hydraulic mining, I hate open pit mining for the wanton destruction.
Weepah mine I believe was the first pit mine in Nevada. I heard that some corporation is trying to reopen it. Pit mines are nothing but an everlasting scar on the earth and is eventually left for us outdoor types to look at for countless generations. Thanks for watching!!!
If you had stepped over the fence at about the 12 minute point and walked up the hill about 20 feet you would have found the remains of a ground plane type CB antenna that a local CB club had installed for her. With that she was able to reach across death valley and talk all the way to Nevada.
That's interesting. Thanks for watching and sharing.
What year did they start using concrete instead of Rock Construction ?
I'm not sure. I know that the Roman's used concrete. In the west I think water was the biggest contributing factor to concrete use.
@@traildogadventures6512 lol
This cabin has seriously gone downhill since Wonderhussy visited it in May 2018.
All of the openings to the building and the vandalism are an issue to its condition. The volunteers are not involved in this cabin probably because how remote it is.
