      I wish I got to see more of how Felix and Oliver developed their friendship and hung out. The little sort of compilations they showed were fine, but I really wanted to see more of how Venetia, Farleigh, Oliver, and Felix interacted all together. Or when Felix and Oliver were hanging at Oxford, I wanted to hear them talk more.

    *This movie blew my mind. At first I had no desire to watch it, then I stumbled upon it and gave it a chance and the whole experience was a mixture of intoxication, disbelief, shock, horror, pepperings of laughter, disgust, pity, confusion, and a cocktail of other emotions I can't quite place all culminating in a dance party so when I tell people ask me to explain it my only response is "you have to watch Saltburn to understand how I feel... and you might not even then* 😂

    I'm happy to see that this movie seems to be as divisive as I experienced among my group of friends. Half of us absolutely loved it, and the other half were very much not a fan. Overall I am totally here for the "deranged cross between Dear Evan Hansen and Parasite" that is seemed to me. It does involve a fair bit of "leaning in" as she says to fully enjoy it but I think that is key when looking at reviews. It can be a very polarizing experience for different people.

    Kind of a bummer when they avoid both sides of the rating scale. That’s the fun of this isn’t it? It’s fun when the director can listen to the jubilant and derisive reviews and giggle along with them both. The response to the 3.5 star at the end shows that Emerald isn’t bringing that energy.

    trailer looked like every one of these class-based horrors that are standard to do now, v. suspicious that she's clearly from the same social class the movie is presumably satirising and expecting you to identify with a more working-class lad reverse-slumming it

      I just saw it and you were completely right. The working class characters are the antagonists, the wealthy characters written as flippant but well-meaning and generous. She had nothing poignant or relevant to say about class aside from "protect your generational wealth or the poors will come steal all of it from under you".

      Second confirmation that your sense here was exactly correct. Abhorrent message to the movie that destroys it from the inside out. Incredibly, incredibly stupid and yet self-assured of its own genius.

      I would agree with you if the film were about a ‘working class lad slumming it’ but… it’s not? Don’t want to spoil that here but I would encourage anyone to watch the film for themselves. By the end, it’s not a commentary on working class Britain at all - I’m assuming a deliberate choice on EF’s part to avoid these kinds of ‘poor taste’ criticisms. For me, every single character shows flashes of humanity/likeability and flashes of complete moral corruption, and so I’m not sure if the ‘antagonist vs protagonist’ description is fair (no character is ‘good’ at all).

    • @Wraiven22
      @Wraiven22 6 місяців тому +14

      @@has-990 even with his family being middle to upper middle class, he’s not coming from anywhere near the level of immense generational wealth that the other characters are. He’s still proletariat, I doubt his parents could stop working and continue to live a good life like the wealthy characters could. Once you get to that level of rich you can live lavishly on passive income and STILL keep growing your bank account.

    • @mariiavasileva44
      @mariiavasileva44 5 місяців тому +1

      I think he did, the kind of obsessive love. And the last scene at his party when he understood that Felix didn't want to have anything to do with him anymore he made his decision. Like, if he couldn't have him then noone could. And then one of the reasons was also that he became an obstacle in front of him and Saltburn

    • @hustler212
      @hustler212 5 місяців тому

      @@mariiavasileva44 obsession. Yes. Love I don't think so. Still...The thing that confuses me is that he was trying to align himself with the etiquettes of Saltburn while mourning the loss of Felix. To me it was like, did he want Felix's love or he wanted to be felix or he wanted to own him. Almost trying to embody/worship him. That felt all kinds of unhealthy and creepy. Oliver's character needs deep psycho-analysis for sure.
