Exactly because he’s not concerned necessarily with people’s comfort/emotions unless he can feel good about himself as a result. He uses people and if it’s not easy for him to come out on top he would never
I loved this film so much, I cannot wait for it to come out on streaming/DVD in future to deep dive further in, because there's lots of little details and Easter eggs hidden that you can't possibly notice on first watch! (Anyone else clock the doppelgänger scene?)
@@akirebara not sure if this is what they're referencing specifically but there's a scene early in when Oliver arrives at Saltburn when a figure dressed exactly like him walks past the window as they're all eating breakfast
it’s crazy that ppl are complaining about the length. everytime i thought it was about to end it would keep going and I found myself relieved lol. It was insane and uncomfortable and painful yet hard to look away. The detail was impeccable. There’s just so much that goes into films like this one and ppl who can appreciate that just get it.
Saw the film a few days ago, and it keeps getting richer the more i think about it. I think unfortunately it's not for most general film-goers who want an easy entertainment romp and will easily misunderstand what Emerald is getting at, which is...A LOT to say the least. I keep finding that people's reactions to the film are more telling about them than the film itself.
Also I could watch an entire side film with Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan in full Elspeth and Poor Dear Pamela character. GOD I AM OBSESSED WITH THEM!
The detail of the live strong bracelets actually hurt. They ruled the world 😂 One of the most entertaining and gorgeous films ive seen in a while. I feel like we are in dire need of more films set in the grotty uncomfortable british past. More films that have a truly fantastical, horrific storyline. More films where we are left baffled, not knowing whether to cheer or boo. Its shaken up cinema, shocked people, got people talking and not just a bit of gossip, people are discussing it at length! She put so much work into the details and im going to be rewatching it asap so I can analyse all of her many layers of detail. ❤
such a great scene breakdown! really puts things in perspective… the amount of details and visual storytelling in this movie are just mind blowing! so much rewatchability
She said “platonic meet cute” and you know what….she’s so right. Didn’t stay platonic too long, but, It’s not Oliver’s fault Felix had his eyebrow pierced like that. 😅
Haven’t seen it yet but this was Fantastic! How great to be walked through scenes whilst getting the inside scoop on various aspects of the characters and stories. Love it
Emerald Fennel gets you and me... she knows how to make a film hurt so good. Saltburn gets 5 stars from me, it provided a sweet mix of Romeo and Juliet w/Leonardo Decarpio & Clare Danes and The Talented Mr Ripley w/Matt Damon. I'm looking forward to Emerald's next film.
Kassiopi is a small village in the island of Kerkira (Corfu) and it’s wonderful. Everyone you should get to vissit Kerkira if you get the chance as well as the whole Ionian islands.
Emerald tells the story of these aristocratic wealthy brits so well - with the nuance and minute details (i.e., kassiopi shirt) that only someone who COMES from that world herself would know - what I mean to say is her Marlborough College self is showing ahhahahaha
I think it’s interesting how much she talks about the film being based in 2007 but we clearly see a time stamp that says 2006 which I’m Thinking could be a typo since they are watching Superbad in the movie and that movie didn’t come out until 2007
Very fun movie, but people really suck it off and act like its way deeper than it is. Very predictable plot, and the writing was very ehh, especially the ending. You expect me to believe Elspeth can and would just sign away everything to Oliver? This would raise major concern amongst her friends, lawyers, and staff, I had to really suspend disbelief and just ignore this bit. However Rosamund Pike, Barry Koeghan, and Jacob Elordi absolutely crush it as always, and the cinematography and attention to detail was great.
More than 2 hours?? Why?? It’s so incredibly drawn-out and lacking dynamics. Just left the theatre and couldn’t wait for it to end. Why the Oxford part where literally nothing was happening lasted for like 40 mins?
I hated Farley i have to say though I found the whole film very disappointing- its been done before in Talented Mr Ripley, The Little Stranger, to name a couple.
@@Ronariverah It’s definitely ok, no one was disputing that, but I think it’s helpful when arguing against something to have reasons to support one’s opinion.
😂 No. Lol. I am not. I wish! I just feel like a novice and like, maybe I've missed something seeing as you thought it was so terrible and I feel the exact opposite I'm just wondering if there's movies out there that would blow me away 🙃
I disagree immensely. The settings were beautiful, the cinematography well crafted, the acting excellent, and some superb dialogue. Weaknesses were that the plot was meandering. Sorry you disliked it.

Adored this movie. It’s very, very strange but loaded with symbolism and great shots. Excited to pick it up on blu ray eventually.
I swear to god there was not a single detail of this movie that was rushed or overlooked. I am constantly amazed at the layers of detail in this film.

The doppelgänger scene really got me! I just happened to pay attn outside and it was so cheeky!

None of you naysayers get what Emerald Fennell was doing. Go off and see a blockbuster movie because this one is too difficult for you.
Yes, definitely MARVEL MOVIE fans. This film will shake you, it’s way beyond what is usual on screen. Brilliant!
I thought this film was wonderful! The second I'd seen it I wanted to see it again straight away. Just brilliant 🖤
Agreed
That film was way too predictable

It is a moment of benevolent and considerate power, the best kind there is. 😂
LOVED THIS
The smoking indoors did stand out to me, thankfully that’s gone away as a thing.
i personally think theres nothing cooler than the aesthetics of 15 years ago but each to their own i guess
RIGHT?!?!
People who lived life 15 years probably don't think so, haha

Great movie!
A female director hence the derogatory comments….how predictable!
I put off watching it as people said it was just weird and that was it but I actually thought it was really good 😂
genius film.
her reference to sister wives made me giggle

Felix won’t talk about uncomfortable things just like his parents.
Great boundary-breaking film
Loving that ottoman in her background.
Good film
"Platonic meet cute" ???
i felt nothing platonic about their relationship 😭😭😭🤦🏻♂️
