Zanac's death, his final thoughts and Ainz's anger at the end were more prominent in the novel and here's how it actually happened. Throughout Ainz's conversation with Zanac he continued to be impressed with how Zanac is able to carry himself given the circumstances. He doesn't think that if he was in the same position he'd be able to handle it as well as he was. By the end of their talk he stated that Zanac reminded him of how there's so much more Ainz has yet to to learn about conducting himself as a king or even royalty in general, and that Zanac was very "educational" so Ainz saying Zanac was true royalty is a short way of summing that up. When Zanac was betrayed by those nobles he told them that he even submitted the kingdom as a vassal state to Ainz but Ainz rejected the offer, and the words about how he thinks he wasn't meant to be king actually happened not on horseback but when he drew his sword against the nobles. That made it more heartbreaking that those were his final thoughts before he died and in his last moment in the novel before he perished the words "Happiness" Ainz told to him was the last thing he ever thought. Knowing that made things even more heartbreaking knowing Ainz's words to him was the last thing Zanac ever thought about. As for Ainz's reaction to this whole thing, Ainz actually knew what they did to Zanac before even seeing his head, he only called the nobles over so that he could confirm that Zanac had died and to punish them accordingly. Ainz also sentenced their families to be tortured and killed as well, and it was said Ainz was smiling behind that skull as a sick feeling of pleasure came when he ordered the suffering of their families. In the anime it sounded like Ainz had ordered Cocytus and Mare to kill the army however they wanted but in the novel it was a step further as Ainz ordered them to murder every last innocent citizen within the kingdom, it wasn't just an order to slaughter the army but an order to kill every last trace of life in the kingdom. Throughout this war Ainz was never actually mad at the kingdom, but in this moment he was genuinely enraged and the kingdom is about to feel his wrath.
Re Eztize Kingdom is a fcked up place, and Ainz just cleaning the trash
Ainz's response of "Happiness" to Zanac was so significant and meant so much more than the anime had presented it and it added to why Ainz was so irritated when Zanac was betrayed. See when he said happiness it was accompanied with Ainz's thoughts that the longer he stays in this world the more he's realizing his friends are gone and that he'll never see them again which is very lonely for him and now his only goal is to create happiness with the NPC's who he sees as the children of his dear friends and the last thing they left behind. To Ainz, Nazarick is everything and to sacrifice everyone and everything to make them happy is how he's trying to create some semblance of happiness that he hasn't been able to grasp. So "Happiness" was such a meaningful response more than the anime could've expressed. That was the first time since Overlord started that he openly dropped his act of being the Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown but instead spoke to him as a normal person being truthful to his feelings as it's stated that he dropped his guard and spoke to him as he would speak to one of his friends. This was so important because this is the most truthful he's ever been since Overlord started because this is not an answer he could give any of the NPC's who he treasures so dearly because it doesn't add up to that 1000 year plan they think he has. So his reply of "Happiness" is possibly the most impact full thing Ainz has ever told anyone in Overlord which only added to why Ainz was so mad when Zanac was betrayed.
Thing about Neuronist, those being tortured have their mouths muzzled, they can't ask for sweet release of death even if they wanted to....
"He was not fit to rule after all. He did not have his father’s virtue, his brother’s
charisma, or his sister’s intellect. He had nothing at all, but that was fine. He did
not want to be king anyways, he merely wanted this Kingdom to be functional.
That was right.
To give unto this country, its people, and his family:
Happiness.
That was all."
That was the exact quote from the novel. Honestly, it breaks my heart seeing that all along Zanac never actually wanted to become king in the first place. He only ever wanted to do what was right and to make his country a better place and that Ainz saying "Happiness" was the last thought he ever had.
Just like how Zanac left a strong impression on Ainz for being the embolden of what royaly looks like, Ainz left just as strong of an impression on Zanac for how shockingly human this undead king turned out to be. Dude truly was the king they needed but did not deserve.
His father's virtue, really?
@@seynoonrae2474 It's just the quote from the novel 😅
@@seynoonrae2474remember when Zanac brought up the suggestion to Rampossa to offer Philip's head as apology for what he did to caravan?
Rampossa refused to hurt a noble of his own kingdom and instead offered his own head. he does this kind of stuff multiple times so that's the virtue being talking about here
@@shahmeerzaid287 He only does so because at that point he lost the head warrior and his standing and Zanac was already basically controlling everything at that point.
He still choose to protect a noble and risk the lives of thousands of people in exchange for a head that lost all value.
His reign was one that has had for its majority seen commoners being arbitrarily turned into slaves and livestock, drug being produced amd spread from his kingdom to other's.
He only made changes under the influence of Renner and Zanac.
The reason eight fingers were so powerful is because what they did was the norm before the appearance of the younger siblings.
Barbaro worked with eight fingers and supported them, because what they did was normal from his perspective before Renner, Zanac and Gazeff influenced Ramposa.
Decades of tyranny to the point the protectors of humanity decide your kingdom is unsavable do not just disappear because you were influenced to do some semi good deeds in your last few year's.
@@seynoonrae2474 you only listed the consequences of his action
Rampossa is shown to be kind and caring towards his subjects. Even though Philip made such a big blunder, Rampossa didn't even consider for a second to sacrifice his citizen. He is virtuous, doesn't matter if his virtuousness lead to the downfall of his country.
Let us pour one out for our boy, Zanac, everyone.
A true King, who went out as a man.
But spare some for next episode.
We’re going to need it.
LMAO BUT SPARE SOME
Damn it. That smooth, silent, immense rage from Ainz after those assbiters murdered Zanac directly after a "reasonable" meeting with him....I realized that O hold my breath and my shoulders get knotted up watching that scene.
I adore a protagonist nemesis whom is going to destroy the enemy, but when someone betrays that enemy, THEY are the hated ones. Love. This. Shite.
Oh one last detail I'd like to mention is as you'll see with the next episode the whole massacre of the Re-estize army by Mare and Cocytus was skipped and it was the same in the LN the only detail that wasn't mentioned in the anime was that after Ainz gave the order, the army of 400,000 people which was almost twice as big as the army Ainz destroyed in season 3, was completely wiped out by Mare and Cocytus in less than 1 hour. Zanac brought out what was left or Ainz's humanity, and the traitorous nobles killed it, now all that remains is the Sorcerer King giving the full extent of his wrath.
You should understand that Ains was going to enjoy the fight, killing the prince and sparing some people of the capital... After the nobles turned on their ruler and pledged to Ains (which btw is the worst thing you can do, because that just shows you'd turn on your new ruler as well). Ains told Albedo to bury him with respect, and send those nobles to torture, he was that disappointed that he lost interest in the fight and decided to massacre everyone in the kingdom because of their actions...
Oh wow, just because of Nobel's all people will die?
@@Astmadeus He was considering it no way to be sure that he would spare some people.
Nah, he originally wanted to spare some, but then decided too massacre everyone. It's more detailed in the novel. @@yasarekin
@@Astmadeus Well, those who he already let escape he let them live to tell the tale, those who he *planned to spare* - they'll die.
He was mostly targetting the army to take over the kingdom, but that incident enraged Ains and he decided to take out all the innocents as well.
RIP respectable ones, Zanac 🙏😞
He just wants a revolution for the Kingdom for the better place.
Alternate "If" he raised in a country like Baharuth he must be a decent Heir to the throne.
My man went through from suspicious person from our POV to a Big W where we put our respect for him.
well said!
Literally!
13:15 A common magic item trope is readjusting to fit the wielder. The sword that belonged to the Giant of the East (or was it west?) shrunk when Ainz picked it up and it fits the goblin who currently caries it perfectly
In Dante's the Divine Comedy he relegated those that betray to the lowest level of Hell, I imagine his ghost raising a wine glass to Ains for his treatment of those nobles. Ains is so angry now that he is going to unleash Nazarick on the total destruction of the Kingdom, no merciful death to the army.
Zanac is a chad.
As far as him being able to wear the armor, like most other magic items it will change size (within some limits) to fits its wearer.
magic items change size .. no limit ^^ the only limit is the material .. the example used in the LN is an armour the size of a ring would barely protect a normal person, while a troll would have no protection remaining at all .. but it works the other way around as well .. trollsize armour when worn by humans will grant better protection than to the troll
Ainz actually wanted to spare the kingdom after his talk with Zanac, he came to like him just like Gazeff.
He thought he had flaunted his power enough and if he now spared them he could show that he is willing to show mercy.
That is how much respect Ainz had for Zanac.
Another aspect is that Ainz holds loyalty and friendship in high regards so traitors are something disgusting to him.
Zanac was a man among men, respect to him!
Remember Zanac from the second season. We all thought he was a jerk calling his beautiful sister, Renner, a monster. Now he went from a creep to a someone to respect.
Funny how when ainz was thinking of the guardians Pandoras actor was left out 💀
the prince only sucess was to negociate a quick death for his people and they sacrifice him.
I like the way Ainz answer by asking his mens to make them suffer as long as possible
I think in the LN Ainz told Aura to inform Neuronist that those Nobles were NOT ALLOWED to die.
Pretty much. They will live on. And their life will be torture.
In the LN he said that those who had wished to live shall not be granted the mercy of death. So as they were individuals who would commit such a disgusting act to save their own skins, they shall not be granted the mercy of death. The message being sent is even if they beg for death, if there's just the tiniest bit in them that still wants to live don't grant them the mercy of death. They must suffer to the point where even the smallest bit of them that wanted to live is snuffed out
Almost there next episode coming. Glad to see this one. The respect was good to see on this and during next one.
Evileye channeled her inner Clarence Bodicker and invoked "B*tches, leave"
Gloria Al Supremo Gobernante De La Muerte!!! El Rey Hechicero Ainz Ooal Gown!!!
This is the only episode, where the anime does Ainz dirty .. in the LN he was WAITING the whole invasion for something to happen, for a player to show up, world items or anything Ygdrasil related .. so when someone finaly shows up in a Ygdrasil newbie armour .. he's somewhat relieved .. not suprised ...
Zanac is a cool character .. in the LN we learn, that he played at being stupid, fat and lazy because his elder brother would have killed him instantly if he showed any aptitude for the throne
also in the light novel.. since the surrendering nobles wish for their families to be spared, Ainz also sends their families to enjoy Neuronistas hospitality and Albedo gave everyone in Philipps domain the Vlad Tepes treatment and while it's not explicitly stated, that probably includes lifestock and pets
/edit and because i forgot this happens in this episode ^^ .. the Leader of the Theocracies heroes is Clementines brother (he has the nickname "one-man army") .. yep the crazy Clementine from back in S01 ^^
Just imaging if a few episodes ago all the nobles and his father listened to him and surrendered immediately instead of the pointless debate they were having.
Those traitors as well as Phillip have to be some of the most stupid characters ever made. Although it may not seem like much to others, Zanac was able to earn the remaining people of the Kingdom painless and gentle deaths, he was able to win over Ainz's admiration and earned at least that sort of reward. But those traitors who killed Zanac earned themselves a fate worse than death, and any sort of gentle deaths the Kingdom was going to have is replaced with pure despair. RIP Zanac, and long live the Sorcerer King.
We hated Zanac in the beginning but we will remember him fondly after this episode FR
As much as i didnt like zanac at the start of overlord by this point he had redeemed himself he didn't need to go down like he did
One of the best written characters in the series.
He is shown to be a strong character, despite being weak physically. The real one.
Yeah, they portrayed him as a power hungry prince hoping to become the king and going so far as potentially killing his own brother, but season 3 and 4 starts his true redemption arc as he tries so hard to be a good king and leader. He’s one of those characters you wish would die when you first meet them but then you get real sad learning their motivations and watching them die. Kind of like Otto Apocalypse from Honkai Impact 3.
Facts I had a iffy feeling about him just based on looks but he proved me wrong
i think in the light novel Ainz was way more angry he basically said "you don't want to die? yeah i'll make sure you won't no matter how much you beg", also he tortured their families as well
Zanac is such a strange character considering his family he is the true outlier.
The king didn't do a single good thing until Zanac and Renner appeared and gained influence.
The oldest child Barbaro continued the same things his predecessors did and partook in slavery, forced labor, rape and drugs.
Renner was born a genius so far ahead of everyone else that she ended up lonely and distanced as even her brothers saw her as a monster until she broke mentally and became what we know.
Zanac is a fucking Eddard Stark type of ruler, he does not necessary want to rule, but sees an obligation in doing so for the sake of the people.
No one else has mentioned this. Those black scripture people who were talking to the adventurers. Didnt one of them look awfully familiar? Blonde bob and red eyes...
Who else do we know with a blonde bob and red eyes who has connection to the black scripture?
That guy is Clementine's older brother.
The blond guy wuth the black scripture was Clementine's brother.
7:24 Did you notice anything familiar about the hairstyle of the main Black scripture dude who was talking? Remember seeing anyone with that hair from S1?
What bothers me the most, is that anyone of those nobles and people of the city could've surrendered to Ainz on their own. They all knew that death was almost certain if they stayed, but they had a chance, as small as it may be, if they went to Ainz on their own and showed their legiance to him.
And what did they do? Betray their ruler, kill him with no remorse and present him to Ainz with the promise to be faithful to him. After JUST overthrowing their own ruler, showing they have no care for loyalty, just to save their own skins.
These nobles sealed the fates of everyone in the Kingdom. They showed Ainz that they are rotten to the core, with only a few rare individuals being worth saving.
wsgd fire video. very underrated
1st🥇
Zanac, the king that never was.. RIP to the best king re estize never had
Im sure after they saw Prince Head all people release a big sign of Disappointed
Next ep will be fire
To clarify the armor is magical so it resizes to match its wearer, a modernization of magical items to solve the problem of "we got the perfect item for me but it's made for smaller/bigger folk and you can't really refit magic stuff"
you are gonna be in shock in the next ep
Also, did you catch that remark at ~15:35 where his general was talking mad trash about Gazef? Like I said last season to everyone, Gazef chose correctly. Had he agreed to Ainz proposal all the disrespect he already had to face would have been even worse.
7:09 you really don't recognise his face?
you sure the wasn't anyone looking like this?
Goddamn him and Clementine are practically twins 😂I was getting a familiar feeling with him but damn
Ains really respected Zanac, when he saw his head that was like the moment he lost his hope in humanity, him just let the others beg for dead but he is going to keep his word about theirs families
Ah yes, great plan. "Let's do something stupid and piss off the Incarnation of Death that is sit on his throne over there". What could go wrong?
And I do believe that Neuronist will be overjoyed with a direct order from "Ainz-sama", that it will NEVER let then ask for death.
@Angel Rodriguez I scrolled through a bit and did not see anyone comment this, but the leader of Black Scripture looks reeeeeaaaaaally familiar, eh?
When dear Uncle remarks about hearing "one of you deviated from the heroic path," they pan to the barbarian. What a sick/stupid misdirection, in my opinion.
LMFAO someone did mention it thoo
word
Love your vids man keep up the amazing content ❤
Glad you like them!
Zanac is one of the few people to gain Ainz' respect and then the nobles went and did that. Imagine he's questioning for a moment after meeting this respectable king if you're doing the right thing and then the nobles show you that all humans are scum lol. He was genuinely repulsed by it and he instantly lost all will to question his decisions and decided to massacre the kingdom. Everybody suffered because the nobles are selfish jerks.
if you did not notice or figure it out, the blond guy is clemitaines(from season one Ainz hugged to death) brother.
Yep the blond guy from Black Scripture was indeed Clementine's brother.
😭they're practically twins
@@Angel_Rod Yeah they tried to make it obvious, also talking about how one of their Black Scripture turned rogue being a reference to Clementine stealing treasure and making a big mess.
He has pretty cool abilities in the LN, we don't get to see him in action but his nickname is ''One Man Army''. I think I remember he can wield 10 rings which allow him to summon an equal number of gigant basilisks (aprox lvl 30+ each).
