- Raising fish fry is a wonderful experience that really connects you with your fish. But keeping fry alive can be a challenge and when they suddenly die off it can be very disheartening. Here are 5 tips to help you increase the survival rate of your fry.

Lights

Filters

Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.

I recently got 6 surprise corydoras fry in a mature planted tank where I kept their parents in quarantine after getting them from a fish store. Having them grow up in a planted tank really helps them very much. I only noticed them when they might have been nearly 2 weeks old when they were darting around the substrate looking for morsels.
So cute. I just found two little Beacon Tetra fry when I installed my UGF.
These little micro fish are so pretty. I really want some for my 20 long tank!👍💗

i was watching (i think) aquarium coop video, cory's and pleco breeding. he mentioned that the pleco fry would eat drift wood(small softened up piece) even tho they had egg yolk still on them!!
Great informative vid. I have found that, depending on species, fry left in with their parents grow faster and are smarter. For my newly hatched I will take water from other aged tanks and use this as an extra food source along with cultured infusoria. There is magic in an established tank!
I got some CPDs several months ago and maybe a month ago noticed two fry that have somehow survived this whole time (they stay up top above the adults and hide in the surface-floating plants). So now I'm researching how to better increase fry odds! Thanks for the video.

I love all your videos. It’s so informative! I have a species only tank of 4 female CPDs and 2 males. Three females have finally gotten to breeding age (I got all of them young around three months ago). I’m hoping to see some

Great video! Got to research how to introduce live copepods or similar tiny crustaceans in a planted tank.. scoop some from nature ?! that sounds pretty scary who know what monsters would crawl in undetected.
Nice, content. I have managed to raise some CPD’s to enlarge the colony. Great fun but tough to judge what/when the fry need food.

For ember tetra how long does it take to hatch.
mine must ve spanned a few times because they are growing in my planted tank with their parents. The parents seem to ignore the fry. If everything goes like this I might have a few dozens.
I really love how your aquarium has a lot of tiny organisms to act as livefeed for your fry. Out of curiosity, do the amphipods get eaten by the adult celestials?
Hello! To be honest I think celestial danios are the most voracious little predators I have ever kept! The adults will eat anything that moves including detritus worms, planaria, copepods, immature daphnia (the adults are too large for them) and any other zooplankton they can find. They spend a lot of time hunting and are not afraid to go into the smallest of crevices in search of a snack. The are very entertaining to watch.
@@tinymenagerie Oh wow! So does your adult tank not have much microfauna like the one you're raising the babies in? I was considering throwing loads of java moss into an aquarium and then seeding it with tiny crustacean and worms and then later adding the CPDs. Do you think it would be pointless if they're that voracious? Sorry for bombarding you with questions!
Hey Nacho! I think adding microfauna to the tank is definitely worth it, to start mine of I literally grabbed a load of plants (zooplankton and all) from a wild pond and put them in the tank while it cycled, then just give it a few weeks to build a good micro-population before you add the celestials. So long as there is dense plants (like your java moss idea) and a gravely substrate then enough will survive to maintain a constant population. I find if my celestials are finding enough live food then they have little interest in dried or frozen offerings, as they would rather go hunt.

I raised my CPDs on golden pearl fry powder. I no longer breed them as my toddler has taken a unhealthy interest in the easy breeder boxes I used to house them and I found they can swim through the gaps ziss breeder boxes.
What moss are you using
I use mostly christmas moss - I find it grows at a reasonable rate, stays nice and dense and is just a bit better looking than java moss.
