Loved that you brought in another Olympian that specializes in the 110, and showed us the difference between you -an incredible athlete and Olympian- but non hurdler to the world record. It’s crazy!
@@Somebody-lk7dm thanks, I'm 5'8 so 6'1 is tall to me haha. And yeah I know that long legs are really key. Must have just been making a quick response to OP
Hey man, I love watching ur videos especially because you try your hand in everything, it doesn't matter what time record you try to clock in whatever race, but to see this spirit of you, trying out everything is admirable man ! Respect💪🏻✌🏻.
Do triple jump: I tried it for the first time 2 years ago and its super fun. Thanks Nick, you are a great source of entertainment during this quarentine.
Wait, I had put this out of my memory I think until now, my first race in HS had to hectically barrow spikes and couldn't warm up, ate shit on 2nd to last hurdle and finished with 21 something.
Hurdles are so frustrating. They’re my main event in track and I’ve been running them for over two years now. Hurdles are by far the most technically demanding event in track, there’s so many things to worry about that can go wrong which makes it so difficult and hard to progress quickly with.
Nice effort! Clearly room for significant improvement. I expect Devon could get you to mid teens with a summer's worth of training for one or more of the heights. As far as what next? I vote for the discus.
Dawn Ripper 1.1 seconds is a pretty good chunk of time and plus, the hurdles for middle school are lower and there are some seriously fast middle schoolers, especially in Florida.
Yi'en Liu Not to take away from women’s sports, but the men basically ran the same time with much higher hurdles and a longer distance... that middle schooler will probably be faster than an elite women’s hurdler by Junior or Senior year
Joe A. I don’t understand what your point is. I’m not saying that woman are as fast as guys because that’s just not true because they’re different biologically. What I was saying is that elite woman are still noticeably faster than middle schoolers in hurdles and shouldn’t be made fun of by being compared to middle schoolers just because they are at a biological disadvantage.
Hurdles are hard. Especially if you've never done them before. Technique is SO MUCH more important in these races as you lose all momentum when you mess up. I haven't run hurdles in almost 20 years, but if properly warmed up, this is really the only race I could challenge Nick in and win. He would smoke me in literally anything else though!
If you ever want to try this again: 1. Stand upright and relaxed and get someone to push you from behind. You'll catch yourself. The leg that moved will be your lead leg. 2. Sit on the ground and extend your lead leg straight ahead and your lead leg straight out to your side with your shin pointing back. Sit up straight and stretch your opposite arm toward your lead foot with the other arm tucked behind your back. This is the 90-90-90 position and this is what you want to look like going over. 3. Get into your blocks with your lead leg back and practice some starts. Counting each time a foot hits the track you want eight strides before you go over. Adjust until your eighth stride lands about 4-5 ft before the hurdle mark then kick your lead leg up and pull your trail leg through then continue striding 4. Place one hurdle lowered all the way at the mark. Get into your blocks again and relax. Do not look at the hurdle but past it to the finish line. Run your strides exactly as before and go over. It's okay if you hit it just accept it and practice until you're flexible enough to go over without going upwards. Run past the first hurdle continuing to stride and count 3 steps not counting your landing. Adjust until the third stride lands about 4-5 ft before the second hurdle mark. 5. Place a second hurdle at the mark at the lowest height and run exactly as before. Do not look at the hurdle. Once you have the second hurdle it is easy to add 3, 4, 5 ... rinse and repeat. 6. repeat 4-5 raising the hurdle height one click each time until it's comfortable. Congratulations you can run the 110 HH with the intended form.
hey Nick you have inspired me to make running videos as whenever I watch your content It is really helpful with all your tips. Im just making racing videos of the races in Malaysia like our national xc race that I was in and I will probably start training videos leading up to my races. thank you so much.
I’d be interested to see you do 400/800 workouts that you would have done when you were training for 2012. Both for informational purposes (currently training for the 400m) and because it might be funny to see how hard it is in your current (but still respectable!) shape.
Did hurdles in High school best form I had was 4steps(were you alternate lead leg) but never got to 3 stepping it, I would like to see you try the 400m hurdles next.
Nick Symmonds what running shoes for road would you recommend for about £40 (UK only)? Love your videos on the next % but they're a little too pricey for me 😂
So I am completely new to running. I've seen people talking about taking a break after their running season. What does this mean? How long is a running season? When should a season start and end?
You are awesome Nick. But that was terrible. Still probably better than most though. Glad to know there is a race I could beat you in. The good news is, those hurdles come down to 39” when you hit 40!
HURDLES ARE HARD!! Maybe I try pole vault next? What else do you want to see? :D
Nick Symmonds I’m not sure if you already have a video on it but long jump or triple jump would he really cool
YES POLE VAULT!!!
I'm you wa t nick it would be good content
Nick Symmonds well good luck with that😅
High jump! My favourite
go for the world record mile running BACKWARDS!!!! You've got a shot
BTW..... great job Nick Symmonds
yes! been wanting to try this one
Yes
Nick Symmonds no dont do it hahah i ran 5:49 i wanna keep that
Yes
Nick: How’d I do?
Devon: You did great.
Devon in his head: My middle schoolers can do it better
*middle schoolers
YUSC BeatZ whoops🤷🏼♂️
In middle school I got all first (and one second) in the 100 hurdles and this is kinda sad to watch
@@yuscbeatz3869 you wrote it the exact same way ?

I run a 15.7 in high school and I honestly got worried he was gonna beat it when I saw the caption😂
I ran 14.7 last year as a freshman in state finals
To bad it's all cancelled this year ://
@David Garcia I know
I feel bad for a senior hurdler from South Kitsap, had a really good chance of getting into the 13s this year
Me a senior hurdler :(
I’m 11 and I ran a 5:30 mile
Riley Kehoe I’m 8 and I ran a 4:10 mile 🤷♀️
If y’all want him to run 400m hurdles like the comment
Now he needs to try the only thing he’s never done...THROWING😂
Has he ever done jumps?
Anon forgot about that too
Or jumping
i'm a highschool hurdler & distance runner and this is hands down the funniest hurdle attempt. but props to Nick for trying
Dude your videos are getting better and better 😂
yoooo wasuppp aj hahahah
bisons aren’t meant for hurdles
1:13 😂😂😂
Nick : "You are so smooth, you just make it looks like effortless"
Devon : Going all out and pulling his face
was gonna comment the same!
Nick: “You make it look so smooth and effortless”
Devon: Knocks down both hurdles and is cringing his face in pain
He’s in good shape for a guy in his 30s
haha thanks! I still work out every day :D
Lol not that old
OUCH! I'm in my 30's....
People in their 30s can still be World class athletes, or even the best
Nick- Keep at it, you have until 2021 or even 2022!
Hey Nick, there’s always the 400m hurdles!
Never realised how high the men's hurdles are! That's insane! How is it possible to run so fast jumping over those beasts?!
For real I tried the 60 and 55 hurdles this year it was shocking still got below 9 seconds which was hype
tall and flexible haha
@@George-nx4bp you don’t want to be that tall actually. around 6’1 is the ideal height for high hurdlers. you just want really long legs.

You should do a hot pepper mile, eat a super hot pepper then run a mile before you can drink any milk.
Matt Roehr I second this
Matt Roehr aha double pain situation 😂

I love how Nick continues doing outdoor activities, even during times like these! What a trooper!
awesome video, keep grinding them out!
I run the hurdles at my school and have run the hurdles in less than 19 seconds. Honestly don’t mean to brag but that was actually ok
Thats respectable
Declan Leclair . Thanks 😊
I don't think I ever ran a hurdles race above 19s either, even my first race ever in middle school was 18.5 I think in practice.
I think I'd tear something serious if I lifted my leg higher than my knee while running
Wait, I had put this out of my memory I think until now, my first race in HS had to hectically barrow spikes and couldn't warm up, ate shit on 2nd to last hurdle and finished with 21 something.
different tittle: Olympian cant beat middle schooler in race
Former Olympian
This must have been very difficult Nick
it was!!!! I am definitely not a hurdler lol
Luv your vids man. Your my favorite running youtuber
Thank you!!
No problem
I was at the Sydney track classic and saw her do the dance before her race
I legit appreciate the amount of effort u put in the content to entertain us even tho u r an elite 800 runner 🍺
Another awesome video nick!!
I’m a triathlete so I have enough hurdles in transitions👊🏻😂
looking on the brightside there's huge room for improvement!

Conspiracy theory: the beard slowed him down.
Great video mate I really liked 🤙
i do hurdles and oOf the way you go over them physically pained me. you should try 400m hurdles, its the best event in track

Heart for Nick
Love the dance at the end! 😂
My coach in highschool always told me I could have won the 300m IM hurdles if only I could hurdle
I had no idea middle schoolers are that fast, that's honestly depressing, lol.
As he says “ you make it look so easy and smooth “. The video shows the guy hitting a hurdle and then knocking over the last one! 😂😂
No lie nick I use to love watching u run the 800 ur come back was always otherworldly
Pretty close! You'll definitely get the record next time.
I love this channel 😃
Thank you Mason!!
The final 5-10 seconds of the view earned a like from me. Lol
Love your vids Nick
I’m waiting for the 400m hurdles. Then the suffering truly begin.
As a hurdler in high school this hurts to watch lol. You have to jump farther away from the hurdle not right in front of it ; )
Devon Allen NFL preseason legend!
Had to give it a like after the last 20 seconds of the video 😂
Ahhh.. reminds me of that exploratory phase in 7th grade trying to figure out what my event was lol (it wasn’t hurdles) 😂😂😂😂
these Dance Skills are amazing xD
Nick how about an egg and spoon hurdles world record attempt 😆
HAHA i commented on the steeple chase if you could do hurdles! glad you tried it out
His hurdle jumping form looks like he's real life lagging
U look like Emmett from twilight great videos
My biggest flex in life is that I can run a 100m hurdles on 33 inch hurdles faster than an Olympian. (Also Nick, 33 inches is middle school height)
He ran faster than me when I was a sophomore😂😂😂
