The majority of our population is coastal, however - and very influenced by American and British television so it's kind of a mix of those two with a few words that are pronounced in an Australian accent. Stop making us sound like bogans, this was just awful. And at least Miley is now recognizing that her actions weren't right. That's a step in the right direction I suppose.

My point is just that pretty much every Australian I have met immediately says that an Aussie impersonation is terrible if it is not 100% accurate. If there is even one or two mistakes, they say it's terrible. And there is more than one variation of the Aussie accent, and I have noticed that other Aussies around me, if they hear an Aussie impersonation, but it's a variation of the accent that is not theirs, they immediately call it terrible as well. It's like if a person put on a posh British accent and a British person with a Cockney accent says "That's a terrible impersonation of a British accent." when really it's because it's not an impersonation of their specific variation of the accent, ie. not a Cockney accent, and vice versa. There are many Aussies I know and encounter on the streets that talk *almost* identical (again not 100% accurate on her part) to the accent she put on most of the time.
She is a great talent and a great American. She's goes on SNL and she's as good as anyone at that. She's show biz royalty and we are blessed to have her.
This was hilarious! Good for her for not getting offended when people said horrible things right to her face. I know if I happened to be approached by her on that day I probably would have said something judgmental and unkind. This video reminded me to always try and say kind things about people and to keep my judgements to myself. You never know if it will get back to that person.

+animeroks36 Clearly you haven't heard of many Aussie accent impersonations then. If you think this is bad, you like most other Aussies I know and have grown up with have clearly sheltered themselves from much of the world.
If you want to hear a bad Aussie accent, look up the next Mad Max game to come out. Find the trailer where Max speaks. That's an example of a bad Aussie accent, not this. This is just not perfect. What is with Aussies saying that an impersonation of the accent is terrible when it is either not 100% perfect, or when it's not of the variant of the accent they have?
+animeroks36 I dunno. Miley's accent is probably a bad Australian accent, can't say as I've never been to Australia, but it actually at some moments sounded like a few Australian people I know who have lived in America for some time.
innertubez That's my point. I am not saying it's perfect. Definitely not. There are definitely moments when she is talking where it slips very significantly.
My point is just that pretty much every Australian I have met immediately says that an Aussie impersonation is terrible if it is not 100% accurate. If there is even one or two mistakes, they say it's terrible.
And there is more than one variation of the Aussie accent, and I have noticed that other Aussies around me, if they hear an Aussie impersonation, but it's a variation of the accent that is not theirs, they immediately call it terrible as well.
It's like if a person put on a posh British accent and a British person with a Cockney accent says "That's a terrible impersonation of a British accent." when really it's because it's not an impersonation of their specific variation of the accent, ie. not a Cockney accent, and vice versa.
There are many Aussies I know and encounter on the streets that talk *almost* identical (again not 100% accurate on her part) to the accent she put on most of the time.

This was hilarious! Good for her for not getting offended when people said horrible things right to her face. I know if I happened to be approached by her on that day I probably would have said something judgmental and unkind. This video reminded me to always try and say kind things about people and to keep my judgements to myself. You never know if it will get back to that person.
