Many, too many, Britons still live(d) in nostalgia for the times of the British Empire. They thought that by leaving the European Union they could return to imperial times, when they were not just one middle-size European nation among others. So they left. As we say in the US of late: F around and find out! That is exactly what they did and found out ... that they were just a middle-size European nation - but now without the others! All alone! They had been told that repeatedly in advance, but preferred to believe Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson and the rest of the leaver liars. And now they are out, much to their own detriment.

And now the US of A isn't better off with their election. Pretty much the same reasons in som,e points as the Brexit guys but an even dumber person than Boris Johnson.

Britains voted to leave the EU for different reasons. They were told they would pay 170 billion into the EU and get nothing out of it while directly benefiting a lot from the EU Import and Export but Boris Johnson and his friends never told the people this. Some folks at the time were also not in good terms with the government to put it very mild. So there were protest voters who just wanted to show the govenment that they hate them which backfired for many of them (as it always does). I never understand protest voters who vote nationalist extremists instead of something in the middle or left.

Greenland left the ECC in 1984.
But it is not a whole souvereign country. So yes, UK was first.

The benfit is, they can decied what they want to do.
The downsize is. They have no voice in the EU. Theyx have to follow EU rulers for exporting goods.
There is really no economic benefit in brexit for the UK.
All oragnaisation that are shared by EU members they have to do it alone on their onw whoich cost more than their EU share was.
    It was a stupid idea.
Even the Brexiteers can't come up with real benefits.

Unfortunately the can't do what the want. There's NATO, WTO, CPTTP with it's individual sets of rules, the UK needs to follow. There's nothing like "sovreignity", it's just a wet dream.

Not to mention, that they suddenly don't have acces to other european fishing grounds anymore. If Great Britain wants fish, they have to rely on their on fishing grounds. I think, some fishermen tried to fish in EU fishing grounds but were frighten away from the EU Coast Guard

The brit's thaught, that they only paid the member fees to the EU, and receive nothing back, which is nonsens. EU give all members money to build schools, hospitals, etc. But the Brits wanted to decide on their own for what to spend the money.

About Germany leaving, we are very dependent on trade, it would hurt our economy quite a bit. Also the € is weaker than our old currency, the DM, which also made trade a lot more affordable for us. While we pay more into the the EU than we get directly back, the indirect wealth we accumulate thanks to the free market make more than up for it.

I don't think there is or ever was any benefit in leaving the EU. For the average citizen and for small business owners it made lots of things more expensive and more difficult.
Maybe the super rich now have less EU regulation that they have to worry abbout - less consumer rights and worker rights.
And those super rich controlled the conversation in the newspapers and media around that time and made many Britons think, that after Brexit, the UK will finally have the possibillity to "control its own borders". Basically, the best argument for Brexit was racism. Throw out all foreigners and close the borders.
But then many skilled and eager workers had to leave. Just remember the lorry driver shortage and harvest helper shortage.
