You forget that the first people who boycotted playing Russia was entirely countries bordering Russia or formerly part of Iron Curtain, whose experience with Russia for 500 years has been nothing but tragedy and occupation. We have no qualm playing Russia, but Russia chose war, and we responded by safeguarding our countries.

In regimes like this, it is hard to separate politics and football. In the 1930s, the English team gave the Hitler salute when playing in Germany. Playing in and against these nations means supporting/legitimising these regimes. I agree other countries are also bad, but the solution is not to unban Russia. UEFA should ban Israel and ownership by foreign human rights violating dictatorships such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. Hopefully the league can return when Putin’s gone.

If football isn't separated from politics, then only nations that aligned with each others values could play with one another.
Football is a sport that should make us forget the rotten parts of our world. But that's just my opinion, you don't have to agree.

    • @goddhoward388

@ThroneFC Football as a sport fully embodies some of the world's worst aspects. Rich elites having all the power while smaller community clubs are left with whatever they don't want.
Football will always be a tool to push the agenda of the day in whatever country its in. FIFA as an entity is very much western aligned and doesn't want to piss off major stakeholders like the UK, USA, France etc. All of which oppose and embargo Russia. So therefore so will FIFA.
If these same countries denounced Israel, so would FIFA and Infantino
