How "Africa" Was Murdered on OAU Campus by Prof. Wale Omole's Sponsored Cultists on July 10

- Lanre Legacy was president of the Students Union Government (SUG) at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) during the massacre of student executives by cultists allegedly sponsored by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wale Omole.
In this interview with SaharaTV, Legacy shared his experience of the bloody morning of July 10, 1999; how the SUG secretary, George Iwilade (a.k.a Africa) was murdered; how himself escaped; how SUG arrested some of the perpetrators who carried out the attack; how the arrested perpetrators exposed the Vice Chancellor Professor Wale as their sponsors; how Prof. Omole escaped being prosecuted and other chilling memories of management's highhandedness.

The way he was mentioning everyone's name 😭a leader who is intentional about everyone around him
In 2001, during my stay in Paris, I encountered an individual who claimed involvement in a killing incident at a university in Nigeria. He mentioned that his parents had relocated him to France following his release on bail in Nigeria just to avoid going to prison . Subsequently, he was involved in drugs pushing , his actions in Paris led to his arrest and imprisonment. It's a stark reminder that actions have consequences, and justice eventually catches up with those who engage in wrongdoing.
Wow. Really painful how people feel they can do away with evil
True
Parents contribute a lot to the kind of adults their children become. Why not let your child face the consequences of their actions. Quite unfortunate.

I was in final year at the time in Obafemi Awolowo University.... What a day and period on the campus in those days! We all witnessed it then and trust me it's forever unforgettable.
George Iwilade and others laid down their lives for the whole community and may their souls continue to rest in peace.
Kudos, Lanre Legacy. I believe you were strangely spared for a purpose and I pray you will fulfil that purpose
When we heard the news in University of Ibadan early in the morning we didn't believe he survived for a long time. What a sad day😢😢😢
This Man legacy should be made a hero in Nigeria!
Exactly my thought!
Who’s here 2024😌
Lanre (Lagacy), thanks for your courage in coming out with all these facts and figures. I was at OAU during this horrible event on campus. In fact, I still have the scars and pain in my heart till today. I was one of the set of people that first arrived at the health centre that faithful morning. It was the gun shot that woke us up in the room while sleeping then in Faj Annex. You know what, whether now or later any evil that man did will definitely catch up with him one day. All I know is that just one day, things will change in Nigeria and we will have an impartial rule of law that will bring to justice all these so-called most powerful and influential. No one plants a Mango and reaped Apple fruits. God bless you.
Hi Akin.
Can you please confirm what year this evil incident happened?
1999
Things will never change until we move to change it
Amen Sir! Thank you
Many unresolved murder cases during the first and second terms of former President Olusegun Okikiola Obasanjo. I wept after hearing the story of how Africa and others were killed.
Thank you Legacy. Your effort to rid OAU of cultism yielded positive result years after. It was never a waste. May the souls of the departed continue to rest in peace
I was a 100level student of OAU preparing for Botany 101 test that supposed to take place on the day when the deadly incident took place. I was at Awo Hall cafeteria extension reading room, and had to jump down from there towards Angola hall to escape. I had a little injury due to the jump, but thank God I am alive to tell the story. Everything legacy said is truth. Prof. Wale Omole was a beast and I pray nemesis catch up with him for killing innocent students.
Please Pro omole what happens to him in the end???
Where is this Wale Omole now.. He needs to be called out if HE is still alive
I'm listening to this in 2024 and I'm really angry at how much worth the Nigerian system places on the life of a Nigerian. I can only imagine how you feel having experienced it first hand.
Was in Part1 too, preparing for same test
I schooled in OAU when it was so safeeeeee. I could go read my read my books and return to my hostel at 3am SAFELY!!! This people paid that heavy and painful priceeeee 😭😭😭
Legacy is very sound , intelligent and fearless ❗
This comrade is living with some dark stories men, I hope he sleeps well at nights, I myself just imagining this is brutal enough
RT
Afrika will forever be remembered for his bravery and Pan-Africanism. Hope to see Law Students wearing African attire during court sessions
I listened like my life depended on it😩
I really hope this man is safe wherever he is.. student unionism is now a shadow of itself
Today we renember our heroes that lost their lives in struggle.
May the comradic soul of our pedagogical leaders rest in perfect peace.
Legacy you earned my respect as a room mate back in PG hall. Sooner or later or later we'll all sit down at a banquet of consequences. Be safe.
I urge you guys to tell any younger ones you know to say NO to cultism.
I’ve experienced and lived it, na it’s only God’s grace that can deliver anyone who is already in it.
Especially in institutions.
This is really heavy, I can imagine what this man went through all in Ife,The man Omole was such a wicked man..i just hope the student union will someday reward Africa's family.
What a detailed report... Legacy is a brave mind. Justice will prevail. I enjoyed the peace on that campus; as we had no cult operations. 2014 class.
The guy was saying the truth, I was students' Union Official Representing Students in Senate Disciplinary Committee then in a position to know the leadership of all Cult groups on UNN. University lecturers are usually patrons of Secret Cult Groups bcos I attend their annual parties of most of them.I knew which lecturer was patron of which group.
Thanks, Legacy, for the comprehensive narration. I was in my final year when it happened. I saw the cultists when they came to Faj hall. I was staying in Faj annex close to the new buka. I was awake and went to wash up in the bathroom for my morning prayers, and they were shouting Awo boys must leave the school for us. Thank God the lights in the bathroom were off and they couldn't see me.
I will never forget that day, how OAU students regrouped and arrested Efosa..
Afrika and all those lost their life's will never be forgotten..
I was in room 67 Faj Hall.... Blood dropping from the corridor.
Who are the awo boys?

I didn’t attend OAU but my younger sister and 2 of my cousins did. They do tell us how safe it was to walk in OAU at anytime of the day or night. There was also fear when you hear about the OAU SUG. I gave myself that name AFRIKA when i campaigned for the office of welfare officer in my department in sch. RIP Afrika and other comrades who lost their lives in the struggle. Say no to Cultism
This is true, i can testify to this I attend OAU.
God bless and keep protecting you comrade. May the soul of Afrika and other innocent souls who lost their lives in the struggle keep resting in peace
10th July 1999: And I heard sporadic gunshots on the Ife campus like I never encountered on any university campus before or after that incident. The shots disturbed the sonorous music coming from the Kegites gyration in the Awolowo Hall that night. It was a night indeed! Someone must also dig into the killing of Okpanka (Final Year student) under Adeola Soetan's union presidency in 1991. We are still alive to speak!

It was the formal President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasnjo given backup to VC Wale Omole. As he has foreseen another activists coming up that will be challenging the evil government.
It is high time people will know that the head of institutions in Nigeria: VC, Rectors and provost are the tools government of Nigeria used to terminate the life of young vibrant and brilliant individual that may be an obstacle to them in the future.
The last election 2023 explained it all, in which university Vice chancellors were used to conduct the general elections. The election was manipulated, rigged and disappointed to Nigerians on a stolen mandate.
Killing has been the normal way for Nigerian leaders. They are all always active in prosecuting innocent people clamouring for truth.
May the souls of galant comrades rest in peace. Rest on Africa, we salute 🫡 you.
I've been looking for this comment. It goes back to the president yhen & their "britherhoid" using their campus cktists. That oresident wass scared of how he can be checked by the unionists. OAU stared down a whole Abacha!! Nucleus of student unionism in Nigeria. Quell student unionism in OAU, and all camouses will go quiet. That's the plan. It backfiired..

And for legacy, he was of the slogan song of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Legacy naa re o. I heard of the Massacre killing on my service year in Enugu, I finished in 1998, I cried my life out. Why are we doing this to ourselves. 2/3/2024, Nigerian system had rotten inside before now. How many years now that this illegality was performed and perfected without any organ of government in power did nothing to it. Young people were killed, future of tomorrow, see Lanre Adeleke life was messed up, just because he stood for truth.
That's why agbero is better than educated citizen of our dear country.
Where is the judge now, where is professor Wale Omole? Where is Oyo state government and the Federal government.
We don't need to cry, we know that we will end up this way long a go as a country because truth has fallen for long in our street. Nothing can no longer hold together, truth is the belt that hold sanity and development of a successful country of today.
31 minutes well spent. That was quite a watch.
Class of 1990 Alumna, here. I applaud the strength and bravery of the Student Union Body members. You guys are true and inspiring heroes ❤
The likes of Legacy and Barr. Akin Iwilade(younger brother to Africa) should be entrusted with serious roles of rebuilding Nigeria in either an elective capacity or by appointment. Barr. Akin Iwilade has held on tightly to the values his elder brother died for which are equity, fairness and justice for all. Lanre Legacy, the sacrifices you and all the departed comrades made are still speaking not on OAU campus, but in every tertiary institution of learning across Nigeria. The fear of OAU SUG used to be the beginning of wisdom when we were on campus. May the good Lord continue to repose the souls of those who laid down their lives for our own freedom.
Why is this guy not elevated? He should be a strong voice in Nigeria politics by now.
Unfortunately, union guys who don't compromise never go far in politics.

Painful memories. 😢. To borrow one of this great man words, "Recognition. Justice must be done!"
same situations and problems still prevails today, even worse. and this is not even a matter of continuous praying to God, the youths are the ones who can really end all the injustice by the leaders in this country. cultism and tyrany are many of the tools the leaders and these governments uses against its citizens. And some citizens too who are bad eggs themselves makes good governance more difficult to achieve too.
True statement from legacy,I witnessed everything.

Very engaging interview! I used to think university SUG leaders were a bunch of attention-seeking trouble makers. But I'm impressed by this guy's account of their philosophy, struggle, methods, and successes, and the eloquence with which he delivers this firsthand account. With such powerful enemies, they should have arranged for their personal protection 24/7.

Lanre Legend and Afrika did their jobs as the executives of SUG far better than the VC that ran the school. They were forces to be reckoned with, that is why they were targeted to me this unfortunately seems like an assassination attack. What have schools turned into ?????? these are places that are supposed to provide a haven of learning but instead are ransacked with diabolism, violence, and injustice. I just feel so sorry for the parents of the victims who lost their lives, they sent their children to school hoping they would be better people, but their children ended up coming home in body bags and no just till today. RIP Afrika and everyone who lost their lives may we continue to live lives of integrity and not compromise our values and beliefs for power.

You shouldn’t have disclosed where he is. Isn’t it dangerous
Your elder brother is FARO?

Nah! He's not Faro. He is a security personnel (DSS). He's alright.
The way you quickly glossed over Africa's shooting, refusing to dwell on it, or mention how he was butchered.... Honour! Pain!
