Though we have quite a few dark days during the winter, it's the reason we have a coffee shop on almost every corner :)

Which coffee shop is your favorite in town?

I've lived in Salem for many years now and these videos are really well done. I think she has really captured the experience of being here.

Thats great feedback, I'm glad I'm capturing the city as it is.
What do you think those who are relocating to Salem MUST know before getting here? I know others would be happy to have your perspective.

@@SalemOR You did a great job. I agree that our proximity to Portland gives us a significant advantage over Eugene.
Worth noting, between Salem and Portland there are shopping and entertainment options. Between Salem and Eugene there is *not much* except farms.

Yes! That is a great point about the "in between" zones, I didn't even consider that. Any other significant differences that I missed?
Thanks for sharing your 2 cents and watching!

I would definitely want to see statistics on Salem's population before I believed that it's growing significantly. This city isn't exactly a cultural or economic hot-spot.

Thanks for the comment, it made me go back and re-examine the census data and the math didn't math.
I've edited my video to address the issue. Much appreciated- I wouldn't have caught that unless you pointed it out.

Sounds lovely. I'm from a rural central Illinois area and our winters are much different.

Sweet. Checking it out in the fall/winter is great. If you don’t mind it then, you’ll be just fine ◡̈

I expect a flood of relocations to Oregon from Florida and Texas. People are fed up with Christo-Fascism.

I am getting more clients from the South in general. It's been interesting to see the relocation trends in real time.

@@SalemOR Florida will be calling. Hurricanes have made Florida uninhabitable.
I am in Bend. Due to smoke, the valley is looking good. I still worry about the cloudy winters.
How often do you have smoky days?
      Thanks.

@@willtwain1383 I grew up with my summers being in Black Butte- I understand your concerns well.
Here in Salem we do get smokey summer days, however it's not as bad as Central Oregon. The smoke we get doesn't darken the sky as much as it will in Bend. Instead it creates a light haze and turn the sun orange.
If it's really bad you can see ash on cars. In the 5 years I've lived here, I've only seen that happen once and it was because the fire was on the other side of Silver Falls State Park (about 1.5 hours away from Salem).
While fires are a concern for all of Oregon, I know first hand that the culture around fire's is vastly difference in Central Oregon vs. the Willamette Valley.
There is no escaping it, but Salem doesn't get as bad as Bend.

Does the hourly wages match the cost of living

    • @SalemOR
      @SalemOR  2 місяці тому +1

Thats a great question. I am going to rely on my fellow Salem-anders to help answer this question. Minimum wage here is $14.20 right now. I don't see how that would allow for someone to buy a home and live here comfortably on 1 income.
However, I'd love to hear others perspective on this topic.
