On jetskis, you should start the engine first, then start the water. Unlike a boat, they don't have that rubber impeller to get ruined if it is dry. If you start the water first, it can get into the engine through the exhaust. There should be an "automatic bilge" on the machine, and it uses a 1 way valve. Sometimes they fail. EASY FIX! Really not good to start those in such shallow water. They suck up the sand/dirt and that ruins the impeller/wear ring, and also plugs up the cooling in the engine.
That's exactly what happened... he introduced water into the crank case. I learned that lesson the hard way. But, whether he knew it or not, he did the best thing you can in that situation... get it into the water ASAP and run the shit out of it.
We always found the started easier by removing the choke and replacing it with a primer. If you ever find a Yamaha Superjet pick it up too! Good bless Joe
Def a 90's machine. I learned to ride a jet ski on one very similar to this one. It took me like 2 hours to learn you gotta give it gas to stabilize it with speed before you can hop up on it. Once i figured it out it was alot of fun. That was the only time i rode a jet ski. Ive rode plenty od sea doo's though. Keep rockin Joe you keep bringing back memories!
You need to be in deeper water when you start that thing. You are gonna ruin the jet drive by sucking in sand and rocks. Btw, you’re missing a bolt in the top of the engine on the right side.
Riding those things is a workout! A day on the water is absolutely exhausting! It brings back memories of bruising all over!! I had a lot of respect for guys who could do tricks and make it look easy..
Dont start the water on the hose without the jetski already running otherwise you will flood the engine through the exhaust. Also jetski's without killcords usually are set to stall at idle
Sound advice. I gave him the same advice about the two other PWC's that he bought. There's a guy on the channel that tells him that it makes no difference whatsoever so good luck with that… They'll find out when they Hydrolock the motor and wonder what the heck happened. Meanwhile the hose will continue to run in the background… L O L
QUICK POWER IMPROVEMENTS: 1: hollow out the water box (pull out the stuffing) for quick throttle response and improved horsepower, 2, change impellor to a solas or equal for increased RPM and faster out of the hole response, 3, slighty bigger jets and a hotter plug for more horsepower
No no no. Hollow out the water box? Are you serious just upgrade to an xh2o alum box w baffles. Please do not change your jetting without using a pop off tester. More fuel in a hotter plug will not increase horsepower. This guy is a straight looney tune. I can’t believe you didn’t even suggest selling it and getting a Yamaha super jet with a B pipe. Kawasaki’s have always been slow heavy crap.
its basically impossible to hydrolock a 2 stroke since they have ports that are always open instead of valves that will need to compress the liquid to open which is impossible
The water hose flush kit isn't for tuning and you need to have the motor running before turning it on. It is only to flush out the cooling system after riding like in salt water. you should not tune on the hose. There is no load on the motor it won't be right. The Keihin carb sucks and doesn't like to keep prime or idle. You will tune for a whole day and the following week it will be out of tune again. I run SBN Mikuni 44 on all my skis. oh, and it sounds and looks like it isn't getting any or enough fuel it doesn't sound right. seems very hard to start and wants to fall on its face. i bet the throttle response is terrible.
Yeah go with a SBN44 as fast as you can. I cant stand those Keihins they used on the Kawi's. They do make great Carb's but not those stock Carb's lol..
Not the most powerful, but not bad either. Looks nice. Try a 2 stroke Yamaha superjet if you get a chance. They are super fun, very playful and light and easy to throw around. Also try a 1500 SXR, (SXR160) as they are 4 stroke, 160 hp, and absolutely fly, but they are super heavy. ALWAYS start the engine before turning the water on. ALWAYS or you can hydrolock the engine.
That was the advice I gave him on the other PWC's that he bought about the water not being turned on until the engine was running and vice versa when shutting it off. One guy basically laughed me out of here and told me it made absolutely no difference… Well good luck with that. Lol.
It needs a head gasket if you noticed when you ran it with the cap off of the connection for the hose it had exhaust coming out of that hose it needs a head gasket
@@Catboy-hr2qp I don't know why everybody thinks that the exhaust is right in with the water that's not how it works it has a chamber inside but the exhaust runs through and the water runs on the outside of that chamber so it's basically like a water cooled exhaust there should not be any exhaust fumes coming out of the coolant passages
750SX was single carb and sold in '92-'95 model years, 750SXi was twin carb and '95-'96 (1 year where both were available). So that '92 was originally a single carb. Wonder if just the twin carb/manifold setup was swapped over or if the whole engine was swapped. The cylinder porting changed for higher top end power for the SXi engines, but I've got an SX engine with the SXi carbs in my '95 SXi and it doesn't feel any different than when I had the original SXi engine in it.
I have a 93 750sx with dual mikunis 40s, its a good all round ski, plenty of power. Never ridden a stock single carb sx or an sxi so i cant say exactly how they are different. Anyways i manage 46 mph on flat water with Gps (with a solas scoop grate on) , and i weigh 205-210 lbs, so i'd say its like the sxi HPwise (70 isch horse). Good thing about the sx is that they apparently got more holeshot power/low end power than the sxi, which from just a few years of experience i can tell is way more important than top end, even though its fun to rip at higher speeds. Good allround power for all types of riding.
My cousin has a 94 sx which has the single carb but he upgraded the reeds and put a timing advance. I have an 02 sxi pro which has the dual carbs and I can say that his has way more low end power then mine does even tho mine has almost 15 more hp. His will run faster then mine but I think that has to do with hull design more then anything
Riding tip when starting off: If you push all of your weight down on the bars, instead of trying to lift the handle-pole right away, the machine will remain extremely stable. Only lift the pole after both feet are planted in the tray. Quick downward pressure also works to save yourself from wiping out when the thing gets out of shape.
750SX commonly has an issue at the fuel tank vent. The fuel tank vent is located under the hood on top of the tank. Of the 3 hoses coming out of the top of the tank, the vent is the one that goes forward (runs up the handle pole). There's a check valve in the device on top of the tank that the 3 hoses come off of. If the vent check valve acts up, it'll struggle to build and maintain pressure in the tank to pump fuel to the carb(s).
Also, they are notoriously hard to start for the first time when it's been days/weeks since the last. Some add a primer, which I've wanted to do but never got around to since they wear out after awhile and create a pressure leak. Instead, all I do is locate the fuel return line that runs from the carb to the fuel tank. Pull that line off the carb and blow into it. This will push fuel up into the line that provides fuel to the carb, doing the same thing a primer does. A cheap wing nut hose clamp holding the line onto the carb will make this quick and easy w/o needing tools yet will have the security that the line won't come off while riding. If you just used the choke alone without priming it, you end up having to run the starter for so long (15-45 seconds) that you put lots of unnecessary wear on the starter. Plus, a battery that's getting old might not handle it, where it would still have another couple of years if only needing to run the starter for a normal 1-2 seconds.
@@JFish5 Right on. What'd you end up doing to address it? Also, a buddy of mine who raced 750SX's in the late 90's early 2000's (specifically only had SX's, not SXi or SXi Pro) recently told me that the plastic straws sticking down into the fuel tank for the fuel pickups can get hairline fractures in them up high in the tank, causing some issues with it's ability to draw fuel up.
I don't think that you're necessarily rich. I would be looking for either a problem head gasket or a problem exhaust gasket that's allowing water into the combustion process. The thing sounds like it's trying to combust with a partial water mixture. That would explain the washed out spark plugs, the sludgy mess blowing out your exhaust because of water getting into the exhaust system/combustion process. Worth checking.
I remember trying to ride one of them stand ups in the 90's. I couldn't get up on it. And the jet impeller was aimed right at my ball bag and junk, and jetted right on it. so painful. I got rid of it needless to say the next day and got a 2 seater side by side, waverunner, Which was pretty neat. you'd sit side by side, and the steering wheel could be moved to the right or left.

Hey great videos bud just a little advice from someone who’s been messing with these a long time start the ski and then turn on the water run it and then turn the water off let it run after for 20 or 40 seconds to burn off any remaining water
never run a hose with a 2 stroke jetski engine off. you will fill the exhaust and engine with water. only when the jetski is running can you turn on the hose, you must shut off hose before shutting off jetski. its likely your carbs arent setup right because these came with a small pin 750 and a single keihen carb. someone likely slapped the twin carbs off of a big pin 750 and never tuned them.

Don't mess with the diaphragms before trying to lean out the low speed T screws with it running and NO water on. The ''spooge'' at the back is likely from running the water before starting it. You can run it for at least a few minutes with no water at all...while you tweak both screws for throttle response and leave the high speed T's alone until you try it on the water under a load.
You need to keep an eye out for a Kawasaki X2. Hands down the funnest time you can have with your pants on. But really I've had A bunch of stand ups and the X2 is so much fun. It's like a quad on water.

Great find, good buy, a little tinkering, no Vinny Basket? Lakes region of Wisconsin (Winnebago)? Must be lots of watercraft tucked away in storage sheds.
The kawi 750 sxi are the fastest of the 750 class back in the day..the SX 750 came with a single carb setup stock from the factory. I had a SX and a sxi .when I put a dual carb setup on my SX ski it made such a big difference and improvement in power.. 👍👍
You know what, Joe? This was certainly a stand up video and I enjoyed it thoroughly as always! Practice taking off on your belly then standing once you get going.
Nice ski, when I was a kid Kawasaki just came out with the 350 in the late 70s then the 550 came out and everyone on the lake had to have it. Also had a 79 Suzuki wet bike those were a blast. That 750 of yours should go airborne coming out of the water. The faster you go the easier to ride. Have fun with it.
There’s two lines running to the impeller housing. One is for the engine cooling and the other is for the bilge. I bet it’s clogged. Grey spooge is from water getting into the crankcase. There’s enough comments about this already. Assuming it’s similar to my 89…you need to tune it on the trailer in the water under load. There’s a hi/lo speed screws on the carb(s).
Close to a dirtbike but without all the scrapes n bruises when ya lay it down!!!lol! Well ya conquered the hardest part about it of gittin upright on it so when you tune it up it'll b easier for ya stayin up n goin!
I feel your pain on the GoPro. I lost one filming one of my vids. In Canada with all the accessories like yours it’s around $600. Love your vids man. Always enjoyable and you never give up.
Of course this is just an opinion and a suggestion. I think what makes your channel so interesting is watching you solve the problems with the vehicles. I believe you should start doing a challenge video. Instead of you having to buy the vehicles they bring you vehicles that they have been working on and can't solve the issues. You use your mechanical know how to investigate and solve the problem. They bring to you a vehicle they have to put money in an account in which to draw parts off of. If you are unable to fix the vehicle you will eat the cost of the parts and labor. If you are able to fix the vehicle and get it running they will pay for all parts and your defined labor fee. Kind of a game show format. Like stump the mechanic type of idea. That way you don't have to keep buying and selling vehicles and when they come in they already have a story line. Now people are invested in the storyline of that vehicle. Just a thought.
I had an old 550 back in the early 90’s. It was the hardest thing to lean to ride. Once I got it, it was a blast. Wish I still had it. I took it to my local Kawasaki dealer for an issue and they wouldn’t touch it, because it had no vin #. Sold it cheap for parts. Buyer beware and lesson learned.
They feature several of the 80s versions of these at the end of Police Academy 3 during a big water chase, they also show the Honda VTEC version of he Suzuki WetBike you have.
Kawasaki designed this small watercraft with 3 main parts: A powerful two-stroke engine, a high capacity impeller, and the maniac standing in the back :-)
You get an A for effort. A lot of my buddies had your model ski. They were constantly in the shop. Maybe it’s just the nature of the beast. Enjoyed the video…thanks.
I have one of these a 96 SXi, the carbs are way too rich with that amount of blue smoke coming out, find the screw settings online and start from there, it should only blow half that amount at start up then it's a nice light white colour when under full knuckle. Never run the hose first, ever. They are prone to porposing, chuck at least 3-5 stainless washers under the back bolts of the ride plate, it'll change it all together. Get some fatty sponsons, they are death at speed stock. I've hit 82kmh on mine with 1/4 throttle to go. I have a 2023 superjet that likes you to ride it, these SXi are like telling your girlfriend you rooted her sister and holding on for life, they are full bucking broncos. Wicked ski when you master it, full sideways water level turns with full power, awesomeness!
While watching the gopro video part im screaming at the screen "joe move the head band up just a little please!!!!" I couldn't take looking at the handlebar.

I wouldn’t worry about the idle. A lot of guys set it to zero on standup skis including me. If I fall off of it and my kill switch doesn’t work, I don’t want to keep idling.

Quirky find, addition to the fleet Admiral Webb. Congrats, hard work paying off, views are up, subs are up
Man that ski is pretty cool. Glad to see you get it going and have fun with it.
On this one, hope and a little faith are all I have right now; Maybe Vinnie can help you on this project?
Nice.
I own a '94 750 SX and a '99 SXi Pro.
My '94 has a west coast head and Coffman exhaust.
Ski on water on, water off ski off. Not sure if it matters on these but usually it backfills the cylinders like the other guy commented
I see you have really took to the water lately Joe. Nice one.
It's like a quad on water.
x2 fanatics. but 550 is my fave. classic Kawi 'Glass!
Turn water hose on after after after you get it running… it’s ok to run it a few minutes without water..hydro lock ..water on plugs/ need to turn over with plugs out.. and pour a bit of transmission fluid and wd 40…
Spin that all out…throw a towel over everything u don’t want oily
Where did the crankcase drain go? I see the empty spot where it used to be.
Great find, good buy, a little tinkering, no Vinny Basket? Lakes region of Wisconsin (Winnebago)? Must be lots of watercraft tucked away in storage sheds.
Definitely not running right .use the trailer as a run stand in the water strap it to the trailer .carbs need work
Thought you were enjoying crashing into your wake.. looked like fun
The kawi 750 sxi are the fastest of the 750 class back in the day..the SX 750 came with a single carb setup stock from the factory. I had a SX and a sxi .when I put a dual carb setup on my SX ski it made such a big difference and improvement in power.. 👍👍
I have a 94 750xi ss sit down. These kawis are awsome skis!
Same color scheme as my 1995 yamaha yz125, I like it!
Your merch t-shirts should say…”Looks Purdy Good”. Great videos/channel. Love watching and have learned a ton!! Keep ‘em coming!!👍🏻👍🏻
I like how you switch it up great videos bro i appreciate it
I can tell this video didn’t go as expected but it turned out awesome
Turn ski on then water, do the reverse when shutting off turn water off then ski give a couple revs to clear it out.
Way To Go, Joe!
Ooh I want to watch this so bad. Too bad I have to work right now. 😭
Make sure the the bilge pump has a one way valve the hose. Water will come into the boat through the pump outlet. Valve should be at the pump.
I cannot believe you didn’t see the two nuts missing from the valve cover
2-stroke -> no valves -> no valve cover. It‘s the air box.
@@mikebk7807 it's aWlll GuD.
Ah the sound of a stand up jet ski bouncing on the waves brings me back you should try to find a wet bike
747 Jet? Apache helicopter? Humvee? if it's got an engine this man will buy it, lol
that poor impeller on the take off LOL
To keep it from bouncing try a few washers under the ride plate in the back. Pole up one leg up front one in the back and lean over the pole a bit
gotta love the way the exhaust just straight goes into the lake! damn sorry about the gopro buddy.
That's how all watercrafts are. The water is the muffler.
@@catfisher420 I know this I was just mentioning how lovely the 2 stroke exhaust looks as he basks in it idling.
Always start the jet ski with no water going threw it and after you get it running turn it on if you try to start it with water going threw it you could hydro lock the motor
I used to tinker with those old stand ups. Nothing but trouble. Hours of work, for minutes of pleasure. Then back to working on them.
I wouldn’t worry about the idle. A lot of guys set it to zero on standup skis including me. If I fall off of it and my kill switch doesn’t work, I don’t want to keep idling.
And like others said. Start the ski first then turn the water on it can go up the exhaust ports and into the cylinders
For the love of God STOP TURNING ON WATER FIRST ski on water on water off ski off your flooding the engine with water
What?!
You put the ski into water before you use it right what the difference
@@dirtbikedion3233water isn’t pumping through the engine when it’s on the water. Water hose forces the water in.
@jondotcom8706not the exhaust portion.
My seadoo manual says motor on then water. Specifically not to do it water first.
I had a 650 back in the day,not only fun a heck of a workout riding lol
Get rid of the choke and put a primer kit on it. It will start easier. Start it first before turning on water too. Nice ski i like old school stand ups ive worked on and owned many of them over the years.
Sorry to hear about your go pro!
I have an 89 Kawasaki Standup.👍🏼😎Need to get mine painted and new pads.
Great video…….shame about the GoPro, but things happen. Keep up the great work sir.
What lake were you on? Water looks super clean and clear! I'm in Madison and lakes around here are all muck and seaweed
That exhaust stuff is the water that went into the engine that was on before the ski was started but it'll be fine
If it doesn’t idle, it’s probably too rich and that is why are you getting the Grey group mixing with the exhaust gases?
Start engine before turning water on to avoid hydrolock!
Looks like we're starring over the top of Frieza's head from dragon ball z 😂
Bring a flathead to the lake. Your High and Low speed screws are way off. I can hear it loading up at idle. rich. Dual 38's on that puppy?
I like to wash my oil off in the public lakes too. The fish should love your mystery goo.
