Thrust SSC - Supersonic Dreams (Part 1)

- 1997 BBC documentary describing the British ThrustSSC attempt on the World Land Speed record. Part 1 of 2.
Part 2 is here: • Thrust SSC - Supersoni... - note that UA-cam have muted several passages featuring copyright music, and I’ve removed the video from UA-cam search and my channel video list as I got fed up with abusive comments about the sound issues.
'Mars the bringer of war' from Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' was a great choice of music in this movie
Having just watched the 3 part Thrust 2 videos (excellent), I am enjoying this production just as much. 👏🏼
I love Andy’s ‘statement’ of how the car is handling at one point “wobbly as fuck” Perfectly and Succinctly put in a true British style 🫡🇬🇧😄
Glad you enjoyed the Thrust 2 story! As for ThrustSSC, it's a brave man that drives a vehicle at those speeds when it won't stay in a straight line...
Love everything about thrust ssc. British derring do, fighter pilot driver, crushing and keeping the LSR for 23 years now. God save the Queen.
And God save the King! 🇬🇧
i am amazed that a whole group of british engineers and land speed racers got together and built a 10 ton jet powered car that would set a land speed record that would would stand for the next 22 years and at the same time would make history
You can totally see the engineering superiority over the Sprit of America. The twin jet design gives it balance, stability, and more speed for sure.
The aerodynamicist for ThrustSSC used to design surface to air missiles, so he was definitely more qualified than Breedlove. Apparently stability was the main reason for making it a twin jet, not power. A single jet with the cockpit in front would have the thrust/drag ratio to break the sound barrier, but is less safe.
I do love the amateur spirit that Breedlove represents, and he was very close to success. But without CFD or model testing I would not trust his vehicle.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Well done.
31:38 little bit of "Mars" by Gustav Holst there.
Hearing Andy cuss just sound so foreign🤣 I had to play it over to make sure it was real😂😂ANDY doesn’t play💪🏼😎
The mirror sight of Andy Green makes Chuck Norris cry😥
Thank you for video.
Another brilliant video.
I used to deliver to a company in Nelson, Lancashire called PDS engineering
They had something to do with this build. In their reception they have either and actual or a replica rear wheel of the SSC
ONE YEAR ON FROM PUBLISHED DATE.. GOOD TO KNOW THE END RESULT. AND VERY GOOD TO KNOW THAT ''BLOODHOUND SSC IS BACK ON TRACK''. GO GIRL GO.
You shut up!
Bloodhound doing good runs in the desert right now.
3:28 amazing footage
Looks like a 600mph u-turn, I wonder how many g's that was...
That beautiful music that you want to know the name of is Parce Mihi Domine by Jan Garbarek
You mean the guy at 27:00 ?
16:15 that jag
J79.........great choice!
I remember this being on telly. The suspension engineer got really snippy when they turned his entire system off and it worked 😅
Basically it looks like a Blackburn Buccaneer without wings.
I’m here pesce. I’m watching the video u put in google classroom.
In 99 years we went from 39 MPH to over the speed of sound...
Thank God we had raf jet engine mechanics
Part 2. In case you cant find it(took me about 10 minutes, kinda a pain in the ass).

Thank you SO much! Why is UA-cam hiding part two. It should be the first recommend vudeo but is so hard to find
@jguth6 as UA-cam have messed up the part 2 soundtrack (for copyright reasons) and I was getting a lot of less-than-friendly comments about dropouts, I removed it from the usual search and put a link in the comments for part 1. Sorry for the inconvenience, hope the silent parts don’t spoil your enjoyment too much.
3:28 his car careered off course. It had planned on becoming a lawyer, but ended up becoming a car. 😆
Where's Part 2??!
First
In the middle of a desert and British people eating British food !
Stiff upper lip and chocks away there’s bacon over blighty bandits at 12 o’clock old chap 💪👍
Love the winkle brown attitude
Do you have Part 2 please?
Hi - thanks for your comment. I've removed Pt2 from the listing on my channel as I was getting a lot of abuse due to audio issues. UA-cam gave me the option to remove the video or allow them to mute parts of the video which feature licensed music - consequently there are some parts of the video with missing sound. With that understanding, Part 2 is at ua-cam.com/video/50THvoGVqek/v-deo.html
@@ScarfAndGoggles Thank you for the update. Thoroughly enjoyed part 1 and was looking forward to part 2!! I'm sure I can live with the sound issues. Thanks
Craig may be tiny but he's got massive BOLLOCKS
You have no S & G videos about either Thrust ! Just some ancient LQ BBC dockos !
Stay tuned - I have a (fairly long-term) plan for the Thrust projects, but they won’t feature for a while.
im glad he did not go for another record in that bloodhound, something about that car that was not right
Andy Green has the largest pair in the....................world!!
cómo desearía que este documental estuviera en español
Hover Camel is Hovering 20:47
1997. 2024
What is the name of the music that starts at 0:32? It's wonderful.
I’ve Shazammed it, and it’s Parce Mihi Domine by Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble.
@@ScarfAndGoggles Thank you SO, SO MUCH!!
Is there a part 2?
Check the info text with the part 1 video (above the comments), there’s a link to the second part. UA-cam have muted parts of the part 2 video due to copyright issues and I was getting a lot of complaints, so I removed it from the usual listings.
👍👍
Where is part 2 ???
Check the comments section of this video - you’ll find the link to part 2 there...
Andy Green aka JAMES BOND 😎
35:40 This guy is being completely irrational: If you don't have the money, then there's no design to discuss. I was a bit shocked that someone who is part of engineering would utter something so nonsensical. Brings his whole thought process on everything he does into question I would say.
9:21 - 9:33 = When she got those leggings on..
Haha!
🎉
28:20 he swears lol
When British engineering ruled the world. Sadly, these guys were among the last of their kind.
Terrance Adrian - What about Bloodhound?
You couldn't be more wrong, the British motor industry was not anything an engineer would have been proud of, as an industry now we have moved forwards immeasurably.
What about pretty much every F1 team bar 2
only 25 years later this seems to be the dumbest project in mankinds dumb tech history and can only be explained by british excentricity. thankfully it seems to have come to a natural end - the speed of sound :-)
First
H🎉
Nice vid, but they weren't the first
RC_mp 1041 - Er, according to my Guinness book of records they were, perhaps you should contact them in order to correct their error.
@@AtheistOrphan thanks for replying😂, the 'car' i was talking about is 3 wheeled, thats why it didn't count.
RC_mp 1041 - Oh I see. Thanks. The FIA rules for the record to be official are pretty strict, for example twice through a measured mile (or kilometre) in both directions within one hour, with speeds independently recorded at the beginning and end of the mile, then averaged out. Phew! Looks like Green’s 1997 record may stand for some time yet as Bloodhound has run out of money and Eagle was sadly destroyed.
you learn nothing from these video's
"Learn nothing"? Explain your comment.
Nothing it's got every thing about the story buildup and troubles of ssc
