Met Niko McBrain outside his restaurant a few years ago. He stopped and talked to me for a hour. Thanked me for being a fan several times. He was humble and down to earth and a cool guy.
Sources trust me bro
This warms my heart
Met Bruce a few years ago. Such a welcoming and funny guy.
Ya and I met Bruce he came and stayed for a night in my house
yeah i know
he's a tiny cute chatty guy
Met Steve Harris when I was 13, waiting outside the stage door, he endured my stupid questions with a calm and warm smile, asked me what my favourite song was and really gave me his full attention for a couple of minutes out there in the freezing cold snow and wind. Made my life. The memory always gladdens my heart as well as being an excellent lesson in true humility. Up the Irons!
Interviewed Steve when I worked at a radio station. Everyone had 15 minutes. We ended up talking to him for and hour and a half. He kept thanking us and we were in awe because he's Steve Harris. He said I been doing interviews all day and you guys were the only ones that were real Maiden fans asking questions that no one was asking and that's why I stayed so long, was refreshing instead of talking to people who had the same questions written down. We were blown away how humble he was. Still have that interview and listen to it every few years. Great memory. Up the Irons
you should share it or create a link for us to hear it or read it, you won't believe the huge amoun of people that would love to hear or read that. Thanks
Love seeing stories like this. It must get tiresome hearing the same old questions. So having a fans who are well versed and researched in the Maiden lore, must be so refreshing.
@@jesusguerra1093 that's an interesting idea. i might do that in the future and put a link here. i have to find a mini disc converter into a wave or mp3 file and upload it. thanks!!
@@existentialismtyrant5722 don't need to buy anything just let it play and record it with the "voice memos" application to your iPhone, don't let this precious gem lost please❤
Upload it for all of us, you horrible tease!
Steve Harris = Living Legend
Maiden is the best live band, ever. Easily.
Always deliver the goods, live, where it really counts! Absolutely stellar musicians, who genuinely care deeply about their craft - it shows in spades! In awe of them, Up The Irons!
I started with Maiden & Priest in 1980. Then went to Metallica and Thrash. Then went to Death Metal. But "early" Maiden will always hold a special place in my heart. It reminds me of my teenage years.
Steve Harris is the epitome of humble…
I have to question the integrity of anyone who doesn't like Maiden.
Shannon Osbourne is not a huge fan of Maiden ;) I'm a huge fan since early 80's.
Exactly.
Quote from a guy at the Megadeth forums back in the day: "Iron Maiden fucking sucks".
He also thought less of people that weren't into extreme metal with illegible logos so basically your average keyboard warrior. Judging from his photos he was around 5 ft tall which was funny compared to his elitist personality.
@@MrMvidz well, she's not fond of Bruce rather than maiden
@@drmoshie True
First met Steve on the Killers tour.
The Trouble guys and I drove quite a distance to see them at a large club in Illinois. ( or was it Indiana? )
Anyway, we hung out with them for about an hour before they played. Salt of the earth. And yes, they were awesome.
Metal Mania Forever, Forever Metal Mania!
I was watching Mercyful Fate play at Copenhell last summer. And guess who we spotted watching from backstage. Lars and James. Thankfully some men never stop being fanboys!
I used to play football (soccer) against Steve’s Maidonian team. Absolute gentleman on and off the pitch.
Love both bands. Maiden got a bit of a head start and so will always be the band I go to when I need it. I don't see them as a rivalry as they both offer different things and they're both the best in their respective styles. Apples and Oranges. I think if people saw bands this way, we'd have fewer arguments :p Peace in Metal, blood brothers!
Anyone who is lucky enough to meet Nicko when he's not particularly busy will have a long chat of over half an hour and when the chats over the only thing they will say is " what a lovely guy , I couldn't get a word in " .
I love how Nicko is a social butterfly .
Steve Harris is the reason I started playing bass. My style turned out to be nothing like his but he is still my favorite bass player of all time.
There is a story out there, from the band themselves, that Nicko once grabbed Steve's bass to explain something about an idea he had. And he supposedly plays just like Stave and Steve was really taken aback by that. I never found even a clip of Nicko holding a bass. How epic if the band, for giggles, would swap instruments. None playing or singing their own parts. then we can go on being glad they usually do it the other way around :)
@@Cloxxki You want to see Nicko holding a bass and the other members of the band fooling around, there you are buddy -> ua-cam.com/video/EuIol63oAmI/v-deo.html
Metallica are massively influenced by Iron Maiden so it is incredible how Metallica have always continued to acknowledge Iron Maiden as not only absolute pillars of the heavy metal realm but also as incredibly wonderful people even after accomplishing mindblowing success and superstardom. Vice versa as well.
Both Metallica and Iron Maiden are the two biggest heavy metal bands in the world but they both acknowledge each other's accomplishments and have a mutual respect between them.
Mutual Admiration Society. Damn lucky to have grown up with BOTH of em' 🎸🎸🎸
I don't really see why people would think that they wouldn't. Bruce interviewed James just about 8 years ago
Along with everything that makes a great band successful, both bands have cultivated that rarest of attributes, known as longevity. 🤘
I remember back when Garage Days first came out...Jason had just joined filling in the hole left by Uncle Cliffy and while listening to GD album at the end Lars did a parody take of "Run to the Hills" intro and I was like "Wtf"!!!
Long story short...I was pissed at the time because Maiden is my all-time favorite band.🤘😄 This story here is awesome and I tank you for posting. Metallica/Maiden are true pioneers of their genre.
🤘😎
UP THE IRONS!!🤘☢️🤘
Heh, I always seem amazed at how star struck musicians get when they see another musician, but then I remember that these guys are such fans of music that they literally took up instruments to join the Metal Militia along with their brothers in arms.
Perfectly said, nailed it! Thanks for that!
Really cool interview. The two best bands in the world in my humble opinion
That's part of the reason why Maiden are the greatest
i met steve in dublin. james is spot on about him, super down to earth friendly gracious and hospitable.
Iron Maiden was my first band.
@0:51.... James showing his love for Steve Harris 😅
All maiden guys looks down to earth guys...including Paul dianno
I want Metallica and Iron Maiden in a double headliner tour.
It would break the internet😊
Seen him one time after a show, we were behind the barricades and he went out of his way to come and talk to us, even had his own sharpie to sign autographs, awesome guy!
Bruce is an awesome guy! 🤘🥁🤘
I met Steve Harris at the7thson tour in elpaso with my cousin!❤really cool guy!!
"Olympic Metal"
Dude I would watch the Olympics more if they gave out medals for metals.
That would be AWESOME!!!
That’s so cool to hear! I’ve been a huge fan of both Metallica and Maiden since late 80s!
Steve Harris is one of the coolest for sure.
Steve Harris is a legend and i love James for talking so respectfully about him.
Pre phones, pre internet, I sold Steve Harris a car and took it around to his house and was given a tour of his place met his then wife, had a cuppa in his kitchen and was starstruck!
Love how in the pictures the Metallica guys get older and older, Steve doesnt seem to age at all.
Steve Harris my idol and legend,
He have met Steve Harris, how cool is that!
I’m a lucky guy, I met Steve twice but I’ve drink a beer with James in a pub in Paris, James is much more cool 😮 but my heart will always go to Maideeeeeeeeen 🤘
Met Niko at Frankfurt Music fair in the late 1980s. He was so nice and had a really beautiful woman...👍💪
Cool 🤘👍
I wouldn't have known about Samuel Taylor Coleridge or Icarus or Xanadu if it weren't for Steve Harris and Neil Peart.
Was air guitariing to Iron Maiden's Powerslave Tour Dec1 '84 in Sudbury Canada. Ringing ears for a few days cuz it was indoors in the cities community arena. Twisted Sister was the backup. Soooo AWESOME.
His daughter is super cool too, even came to India and was on the stage.
That would be Lauren
Very cool and humble guy. And when you think before being a musician he was a street sweeper... Hat down Steve!
for me Iron Maiden and Metallica are so special because they make from they genre of music (heavy and trash metal) art they make art they just done it far better than others that s why they are huge and kings of metal love them both
0:55 is that photoshop on Lars? Because I remember seeing a VASTLY different photo of this lmao
Nico McBrain was always an anomaly. He looked mad as a hatter...yet when you saw him interviewed he sounded smart and well spoken as fook. I seem to recall back in the day Steve Harris had a mansion with an Eddie that was situated on the long driveway that would pop out of nowhere I think or was that just legend
👍👍
Gods recognize Gods
I met Metallica in 1989. My friends and I had tickets to see them and we got a room at the Marriot hotel next to the venue. We realized that our room was right next door to one of the guys from the band. One of their security guys was sitting outside the room and we could hear music playing. After the show we went back to our room and about 20 minutes later the elevator door outside the room opened and out came Metallica. We opened our door to say hello. They were all cool except Jason. He was kinda bitchy. Kirk was the coolest, he came into our room and had a beer with us.
At the end all the rockstars know themselves and if not feel friendship maybe feel respect,..
Maiden fan for 30 years since i was 10 years old. Loved the old Metallica, up until And Justice for All. I was pissed off at the way Metallica treated Jason, and i never really forgave them for that. I never listen to any new Metallica, its just weird. Cheers and Up the Irons!
Maiden between 1981 and 1986 is by far the best band that has ever played on a stage...
0:55 😶 jamez?
And Lars is looking pretty damn hard lol!!!
Steve is the same no-nonsense, Rough and ready guy as he was in the late seventies,, as are the rest of the maiden boys. It's funny hearing them still Speak in that Cockney accent, when Bruce pretty much speaks with an accent close to standard RP - like you havee this middle-class guy, in the middle ofa few chips off the old block. But he's just as down-to- Earth, as they are. Adrian Smith started talking to somebody in the audience at the gig with his Richie Kotzen collab, Because both he and the fan liked fisshing 🤣
🤘😁🤘
Cool story.
I always thought that the name "Metallica" was a nod to "Iron Maiden", "Metal Girl"?. what disappoints me is so many Metallica fans who aren't also Iron Maiden fans!?
Steve is the greatest!!
Harris true Metalhead !!!
Well, the members of Metallica confessed that they bought Iron Maiden records before creating their band... I think it's better to say the teachers and the students...
The Maiden's guys are cool.
It's 'arry innit
Too bad Metallica never toured with Maiden in the eighties, bet Cliff and Steve Harris would have gotten along great.
Metallica is Maiden big fans
Godfathers always look after their god sons.
That's funny because I knew Steve Harris was super cool and friendly with Metallica and other bands. Then you have Bruce Dickenson who trashes Metallica any time he can.
Vhy would you flash in a picture with steve harris?
Why not?
So it would burn inside your brain enough for you to openly ask random people if we knew why. My guess would be because Metal.
Because they are pals and he's messing about and also drunk.
Because "my backstage, my rules"
@@rycor9117 oh! the disrespect, jajaja
“Lars in the backseat” 😂😅🤣🌈🏳️🌈
Would love to see Maiden and Metallica co-headline a stadium tour together.
I can’t see it. They are too big and put on long epic shows.
@alexojeda9048 That would be freaking epic. I've seen both bands and for me it wouldn't matter what order they played. I'd be lost in whoever was playing and jacked about who was up next.
I was lucky enough to go to Sonisphere at Knebworth a few years ago. Iron Maiden, The Prodigy and Metallica headlined over 3 nights. One for the memory bank!! Maiden killed it have to say Metallica are kings of metal but Maiden are god's of Metal.
The Big 2
@@ba55bar Uh no, my balls can't go on tour with them. Thanks though.
