    This is a nice overview of SU and opportunities to fully engage there.
    I was fortunate to experience the 1970s' version of what you've presented. Starting as an undeclared A&S student, I created a major that essentially was a prototype for today's Bandier Program - concentrations in communication, audio/video production, music theory & history, business & marketing; plus fun A&S courses like physics of music, creative writing and psychology.
    I wandered into WAER, Spectrum Records, Synapse video studio, the Daily Orange, attended concerts and did some freelance audio projects while learning the craft. Given a do-over, I would get more involved in these and other student activities; in the apathetic 70s, joining clubs perhaps was less a thing than with students today.
    Back then legal drinking age was 18 which created a very different party atmosphere. While today's parties often break the law, in the 70s several dorms had their own makeshift bars serving mostly beer and wine plus a constant flow of live coffeehouse-style music. I performed in dorm lounges and open mics at many on-campus venues. As "grownups" per to NYS law, we worked and played hard like students today, just under different rules. Today's students amaze me by how mature and involved they are in all aspects of the college experience.
    Newhouse had decent low-key, old-school audio and video production studios. For the geeks who are reading this, Studio 3 was a traditional analog room among the faculty offices in Newhouse II, with Neve, Ampex, Altec, Neumann, etc. Like today, there were many wonderful teachers at Newhouse and elsewhere at SU.
    And yes, we enjoyed the seasons! I can imagine that tossing a frisbee in Walnut Park on a warmish March afternoon is as I remember. Our sledding destination was Thornden park, riding trays borrowed from campus cafeterias. 🛷
    Ahh memories. Thank you for your video! I wish you much continued success at SU and after graduation. ☮

    As a female who is visiting the dome for a concert next week, is it safe to walk around at night? I had a plan to go to insomnia cookies after the show as a pick up point for my Uber, it seems to be fairly close to the dome. As I will be traveling alone though I am wondering if it’s safe to walk there from the dome at night.

      Hi! Is this for the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert? I'm going to that as well! You are going to be totally fine, the weather is going to be very nice and there will be a lot of people leaving the dome at that time. Also, Insomnia is right on Marshall Street so it is very close to campus and there will be a large crowd likely walking in that direction. Hope this helps!

      @@sasthimandal1947 Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I would recommend going to games/concerts at the dome! Also, you could head to downtown Syracuse- there are a lot of great restaurants and theaters. You could also go to the Green Lakes or take a drive to Skaneateles! Both are great in the summer. Hope this helps :)

    What's the financial aid like, I read that Syracuse University meets 95% of a students demonstrated financial need, what did you have to pay? I'm out of state so it probably will be more expensive

      It definitely depends on the person! I do have a scholarship but everyone receives something different. I would recommend applying and seeing what you get.

      Out of state makes no difference for private college tuition. They may favor you as a way of increasing their outreach across the country. I had a high GPA, but coming from community college. They gave me $20000 in scholarships, but that still left me with $40000. I decided to go to SUNY instead but if you can afford Syracuse, it’s definitely worth the experience I feel

    I’m proud to say my daughter went to SU and graduated in 1998. She now teaches in a Syracuse grade school for the last 25 years. And my granddaughter who is her daughter also goes to SU. This will be her second year there. We are all born and raised in Syracuse.

    I went to the iSchool, and its ranked in the top 10 of the US. IMO SU is a very underrated school when it comes to communications and technology for schools.

      Syracuse is known as a party school. Greek life is very prevalent on campus. However, SU is a large research institution which will offer opportunities for anyone to find their place. But yes, I think you’d find that many students are from Greek life and a little more on the wealthy side

      Yay, that's so exciting! BDJ is the best! Yes- you can get involved in all activities as a freshman! There are so many Newhouse student organizations! In the first two weeks of your freshman year there are two club fairs- one for Newhouse student organizations and one for the whole school. The earlier you get involved, the better! Definitely check out my Tik Tok (@heyitsilana), I have a lot of videos showing some of the organizations I'm in :) So excited for you!!

    • @petercharron3268
      @petercharron3268 7 місяців тому +1

      Both, some areas around but not in the center of downtown are really rough, old Victorian houses chopped in low rent apartments. Students don’t go into those areas. Being a small city, the residential neighborhoods and surrounding suburbs are close, safe and green. You’ve got to know where to go, which is true of every city.
