I've heard this interview 100 times. -The perfect representation of the Modernists holding the line against the Postmodernists. Norm was more than a comedian. ❤❤ Great video, @Apologia
Bro, you have a great way of commentating on today's culture clash, but without judgment... JUST LIKE NORM!!! Keep it up, I'm stoked every time I see the Comedia-Cola logo. 🙏🔥
His wheelchair analogy was perfect 😂 just because Eddie Murphy exists means that black people aren't disproportionately in poverty? I love how she thinks she's being the bigger person, but ignoring and pretending inequality doesnt exist is reductive of what black Americans are going thru
I would love to hear a conversation between them both. I have a feeling they would actually get along in a weird way. Or Norm would just call him a fuckin' weirdo and I'd still laugh, and I love Andy Warhol lmao
Norm's a great example of controversy with purpose. He doesn't say these things to punch down, it's about provoking expectations and reactions to have fun with them in a way everyone can appreciate. There's no disrespect intended to the female host, the callers or the groups he's talking about or imitating (and there's seemingly relatively little received considering the subject matter) because it is only light hearted play and not a vain power struggle meant to ego boost instead of entertain. He wasn't an exceptional genius either, he was simply practiced and careful with his words which pushed him into true competency in his chosen craft; a great lesson that everyone is capable of emulating. Truly a legend and an inspiration.
The shittiest part of the job for a genuinely funny comic is appearing on morning radio. The people who host these shows have always been the least funny, least talented, and least interesting people in all of show business. Norm found a way to make his appearance fun and that's why he rules
7:22 "Amen sistah" by Sarah is so hysterically racist, laughed way too hard at that. She is so deeply in denial of prejudice. Give your head a shake! Give your head a shake!
The low iq inability to understand statements of generality or "on average" never ceases to amaze me. How so many people can hear "on average, X less and Y" and then go "thats not true i know tons of Y less than X" is so sad.
Your point isn’t moot or invalid as there certainly is a degree of that concept in play. But there were many who saw Norms genius / brilliance in his time. But again to your point often saying so fell on deaf ears in his life. You have to have had a specific taste and sensibility to have seen it in real time, and that sounds pretentious but it’s not at all. It’s just a matter of fact that the influx of attention has made him more appreciated posthumously than before. And that speaks to your point Norm was a master of the craft in a way few others have ever been. Genius is tough to quantify in this context because part of his brilliance was that he was a very intelligent person who could pass himself off as an idiot so convincingly.
It's disingenuous of you to frame the "black people" joke that way - the offense wasn't (entirely) because of him saying that black people are poor. It was him suggesting black people are dangerous.
Also 11:52 - he wasn't smiling cos he knew he wasn't saying anything wrong, it was cos he knew he could out talk the hosts/callers. He was smiling cos he was getting away with saying something un-PC Norm was a genius, but this isn't - he was just up against people who couldn't keep up with him
He wasn’t saying or suggesting black people are dangerous. He said POOR people are dangerous. That is true most crime is committed by people without a lot of money. He is saying black people are more likely to be poor and pointing out that’s unfair. If anything he is saying black people aren’t more dangerous, but set up in a way to do crime because they aren’t paid.
The person that made the video said the caller is from Survivor but they clearly say they are from Big Brother. It makes sense though because the narrator has a southern accent and, you know...
These hosts are so dumb. If you wanted to point out what norm did wrong it’s not saying black people are generally poor, it’s implying that you need to fear black people because of it and assume they’re dangerous. The thing he did that was most racist/wrong is validate people who default to be afraid of black people because of assumptions about them. I’m glad they didn’t do this though cause if they started making good points it would’ve gotten awkward. It is hilarious that Norm became the woke one when everyone started denying black people being in poverty
That woman is the most obnoxious fake person I’ve ever heard. Hearing her get a reality check live on air was a gift from norm we can never repay.
Come on, I'm sure she's a nice person. I know a lot of people who'd react the same.
That’s morning radio for you
I’m a simple man, I see Norm and I click

Some conservatives comedy fans point to this bit because they think Norm was teaching her a lesson about blacks and not the point you note

Much appreciated!

Oh, Norm. I really miss you. Thanks for the lessons. People don't even realize they need you
They're rich?
You didn’t mention that he’s poking fun at all sides here, including the positions he’s arguing for. That’s the onion.
Great vid. Keep em coming!
Miss him, my favorite comedian by a mile

Norm’s “C’monnnn” kills me everytime!
This was a good one
Thanks brother
@thecomedyhistorian you could probably do a better job than me if you made a video about this. Your Norm audience would probably make it blow up.
Danielle from Survivor?
Host: Danielle from big brother, you’re on the air
Haha. Damn
Norm is really good at exposing faulty logic and hypocrisy.

It's a meme that women generally don't understand statements that deal with 'on average'. But it's true - in general.
I’m opposed to “chick think” myself.
Gimme that old time religion!

It's really more a reflection of the intelligence of people who listen to these types of radio shows (or used to, not sure if they still exist)
I miss that guy
It sucks that there's so few good Norm breakdown vids and so often they're made by dorks unqualified to break it down
Talk about death of the author... so weird how many people make him out as some sort of genius.
