This is a game where the winner goes "I'm SO SMART, look at this awesome game!" and then opens the analysis and just...

For real 💀 one game I thought I played so good and the analysis said I had 60% accuracy 💀😭😭😭

-1.3 in the opening doesn't really mean anything at the club level. Well, maybe after 2k or something...
17:50 I like how the engine takes 3 seconds before changing like it's trying to comprehend that move.
It really wants to jump from the Burj khalifa

"You have no idea what you're doing, do you"
it was still mte in 8, so it stayed on mate in 8
the engine went through all 5 stages of grief with that move
I first thought Black was that dead lost that even a BS pawn push did not change the M8
Whenever Levy just starts listing the active pieces someone has, you can immediately tell that the next move will be a random pawn push. It still gets me every time though, just... the sheer absurdity of it is absolutely perfect.

Random pawn pushing is how Aman Hambleton teaches you to lose

@@paytonwebb3771 For the Depp case it’s “An animal defecates on a human’s bed”
Pretty disgusting analogy, tbh. The whole reason non-human animals sometimes act that way in *cages* is because of extreme psychological distress due to being imprisoned and exploited. In the wild behavior like that is simply not observed, because it makes no sense.
@@hayvenforpeace Or imagine this they are being animals😊
7:55 This was interesting: I'd never considered the engine eval in these terms before. I knew it was done in terms of material point equivalent, but the idea of +N meaning that the opponent is going to have to sac about N points of material in order to stay alive is a perspective I hadn't come across before.
it actually isnt how the engine derives its eval, because once you get to the "position where the losing side has to sac material" the engine will show a different number at that point than what it started with before the combination of moves. Levy just says things sometimes without knowing what hes talking about
@MorTobXD well isn't it almost the same thing? I tend to agree with Levy generally speaking
I'm not a computer scientist but considering you can get like a +n engine eval position in a rook and pawn endgame where n is greater than the amount of material either side can possibly sacrifice I don't think that's true
@@cecilasen yeah this sounds weird so to me it may mean that my reasons maybe true upto a certain point then is no longer applicable, or it may be that my reasons are totally wrong from the very first word I started to write 😂😂 in that case the specialists should be doing a better job so as we get what's going on or lastly it could also maybe be explained by the horizon effect these engines I hear they have like when it's sensing mate but that mate is prolly 9moves mate but engine has depth of calculating say upto 7moves...since it's impossible for the comp to give the mating line coz it can't see beyond 7moves but it knows that position in 7moves is so bad that even material on the board can't begin to cover it... don't know if I explained well
@@cecilasen I’m no computer scientist either but how I look at it is. The engine seems one or more of the pawns on the board promoting, hence giving you a higher evaluation than the material on the board
this game is exactly what anxiety feels like. Eveything hanging and nothing being done about it
omg that is a great comparison! That is kinda what I felt watching this game in guess the elo.

If there was a chess variant “most hanging pieces wins” these dudes would’ve been excellent at it! 😅😅
There is, it’s called giveaway, and I have to imagine that these players are 2000 or higher in it.
"Don't take the pawn with this queen you start hanging pieces"
*Hanging his rook, and bishop for like 10 moves*
The dudes got a Blindspot to hanging pieces chief; that's a free pawn.
Honestly so grateful for this man. What you've done for chess is simply underrated and understated. Thank you sir.
7:00
Bishop D2?
Protects the pawn with the queen and the bishop attacks black queen
Then Nxf4, winning a pawn and counterattacking White's queen. This essentially forces a queen trade if White wants to keep their e-pawn. Black will emerge with an advantage, being up a pawn and in no danger.
Levy thought that knight was there to attack the rook, was actually there to create mate. Amazing plays by white.

It’s funny how you assume that players at this level „offer to trade their queens“. They probably just see a piece that they can attack and don’t even see the opponents queen attacking the square that they want to move to.
Classic! *No-one* does chess commentary like you, Levy! Great stuff!
You could make watching paint dry sound like the Kentucky Derby!
I will ever understand why I think Levy's reactions to bad chess moves is the funniest thing ever. Roasting someone for their poor choice of decision in a chess game is just amazing
Agreed
As someone who trades the queen every chance they get, it’s because I’ve blundered mate in 1 too many times so getting the queen off the board makes it so I can’t blunder mate in 1
Levy is a master of what I call reverse clickbait. Name n' thumbnail promise one thing, and then the video is a completely different, better thing.
I see it as just clickbait
But the content delivers!
"Half the world is composed of idiots, the other half of people clever enough to take indecent advantage of them."

Levy misunderstands.. Taking the other Kings Queen is a FLEX... we don't play for mates.. We play for Flex and Checks.
I been watching you for a long time and I just want to say thank you and keep up the good work.😊😊
This one should be dubbed as "The Ever foul" game of chess and it deserves a medal at it's own merit !
i think the idea of 22:50 knight move is to open the possibility for a checkmate that white did. since the knight is protecting knight from king taking it. black pieces probably attempted it and took the other knight with the rook to allow king to take knight and then white took the rook that captured their knight and hoped that their opponent doesn't see checkmate or doesn't move one of the 2 pawns near king down or the king to the left and to whites credit, they didn't. i have hanged checkmate in 1 move once but i won the game because opponent wanted to make queen. as soon as i did the move that would have lost me the game i kicked myself and when opponent didn't do the checkmate, i applauded myself.
4:41 that is legit the very thing that comes into my mind whenever I try that in games, including the accent XD
At the end Levy's face was fucki** hilarious
We Love You Levy!
18:53 White is a genius, Bf4 is the 1st move in the mate-in-10 as shown on the eval bar
No, that was Stockfish recalculating the previous position's evaluation from +M10 to +M9. After White's move, the evaluation drops to +10.
Hi @GothamChess . I am new to Chess so I really have no stones to throw here. However as an older person who’s been around the Sun a few times, I can guarantee you that at the end of this game, and actually at the end of another game where you say, “they’re pooping all over the floor but somehow they find time to clean it up. Before they start doing it again of course.“ - I guarantee you, if they could’ve, both players would be high-fiving each other thinking what a great game. So Close! The Drama! Oh my God you almost had me there. And then I was so brilliant and sacrificed my queen.
- What was your strategy?
“I can’t tell you because it’s a secret.
- A secret from who?
“A secret from myself!”
These are the kind of guys who think because they watch the Queen‘s Gambit all weekend long, they have the discipline and talent to be 2200 rated players or something.
And the proof that this is their level of awareness?
Look at the game we just watched…
I am 97% sure that checkmate was an accident!
Both are hilarious games with your commentary and I humbly apologize on behalf of the other 0-1000 rank players. I think there needs to be another ranking for players like this though. Keep these unfortunates separate from the other 800s. Something like: Rabid Squirrels in a Cage or something.
Cheers.
P.S. You recommended 1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners. My copy just showed up today. Time to practice and break free of my own Rabid Squirrel attacks.
5:19 the thing is, if black follows that rule, queen takes queen also happens to be a check
"Without further ado," he says, and then adds further ado.
This has got to be the most exasperated I've ever seen Levy get on this channel.
And considering we're talking about Levy, that's saying something
You’ve really never seen one of his videos on stockfish have you?
my best guess for 18:20 is they are going for the "pp on the pp" aka put pressure on the pinned piece (the rook in this case)
because they don't want to trade material (not knowing they could take material without trading because they are as good as your avarage random noob or anarchy chess user)
or maybe they are flexing the fact that black can't en passant that pawn, so black is forced to resign since the forced move is illegal
I once again come here to express that I’m tired of these videos and would like to see less of “how to lose at chess” type of videos. I miss when you reviewed historical amazing and crazy games. Love you as a content creator, just really not loving content lately
It's funny how he starts the game with saying: "it's not a fake game”
They obviously brought the queen to c4 for the unga bunga check, they didn't see the check mate.

19:02 Fun fact: Rxd6 is Stockfish's second choice.

Nope, you are wrong. Check is only the second most forcing move, the MOST forcing move is the legendary two-square pawn push. En passant is *FORCED* remember?
I bet white didn't even see mate, just went ooga booga check
Alright, this 3rd time you say no more chess
The eval bar must have severe whiplash
4:41 - I *wish* my thoughts sounded like that
I like how Levy randomly calculated what 4 out of 11 is in percentage in like 2 seconds.
Can you do a video for all the adults learning chess out there? All the stuff out there seems to talk about how adults can't be good at chess since they didn't start when they were 10 or something. I'm not sure if you coached any adult learners, but I'd like to hear about that.
Listen, I am a 900 and I have some games where I feel like someone slipped me a drug and I literally make every wrong move. Then the next game I play at like 92% accuracy. Its a weird place to be.
"A trip to ooga town, population booga"🤣
as a high 700 low 800 i look at these and think, "Wth? My opponents are never this garbage."
watching from a third person perspective has given me an ungodly fear of hanging pieces, which i think is good.
He did not say "get outta here" for the second time..... so i am staying
My favorite line: "They're all asleep!"
Love it!
Feels like someone shouted "Switch!" at 16:30 and after that both players switched to someone else.
There is no possible way this isn't a fake game, they must have been drunk and playing a bounty on getting every single piece hanging without being taken 😂😂
I saw that mate in 8 didn’t know it was made but it felt like the right order to me, I miss playing chess
I'm an extremely casual chess player, and I'd love to say I wouldnt blunder as bad as these fellows but I probably do.. however as soon as I saw that second knight move to attack the rook I knew black was going to blunder back rank mate, it's like thanos - inevitable.
I swear, these How To Lose at Chess games give the evaluation so many mood swings, it's like "Oh, black is winning in the first 5 moves" "Uh oh, black made a blunder! Now white is better!" "Uh oh, after making so many dumb moves and still winning, white somehow made a BIGGER blunder and now black is winning!" "Uh oh, black somehow finds a way to sabotage the game again and white is winning!" "Oh, white lost the game. Wow." I lowkey thought I had Gotham here and thought white is either stalemating or losing this game, but I jinxed it
That ending took me a legit second to understand the end
Ok so I was worried about sucking at chess when I first started, but it's rather inspirational that I can still potentially suck this badly at 800
Those players be like: "What could possibly go wrong"
After this video my ELO dropped by 300 points. I cannot believe what this game was.
4:35 I think a lot of beginners will just trade queens since it just makes the situation less complex.
"White is completely lost, because he has severe development"

How engines feel when they analyze our games
Me after 11 months: yes, more chess
The Knight on e5 never took the Rook because it needed to prevent the King from going to f7 the entire game.
5:00 BF7+ wins a queen.
Or at least it would if it were White's move.
7:46 he called the Queen a king
No, he meant that Black's king is in the middle of Black's back rank. Specifically when talking about the king, we often call this place "the middle" for short.
16:51 prob thought king could escape through f7 and didn't see the knight
There was a cosmic ripple set out from the game that could be felt by every player above 900, alive or not.
Like a disturbance in the force strong enough that Jar Jar is on alert. May not know why, but something definitely happened.
RIP chess
This series is definitely better than Guess the Elo
4:40 oh no he discovered my plan!!
there's no way white knew it was checkmate when they played the final move
Me in all move - ayoo what?
After watching this, I'm feeling as dizzy as Stockfish. Look at the left bar evaluation on the left side of the board.
When Levy says "Take a sip of water" you just do it. No questions asked.
"I take something with 20 letters in it."
I think the idea of Bc5 was that the bishop is protected by the knight on d3, forgetting that the knight on d3 is black's knight, not white's.
Your videos have actually given me a great deal of hope, returning to the game after years away. I’m playing as well as I ever have. Someday I may submit a game so you can laugh at me on Twitch and give hope to others.
