7:55 This was interesting: I'd never considered the engine eval in these terms before. I knew it was done in terms of material point equivalent, but the idea of +N meaning that the opponent is going to have to sac about N points of material in order to stay alive is a perspective I hadn't come across before.

    • @ClassicMist360
      @ClassicMist360 2 роки тому +15

it actually isnt how the engine derives its eval, because once you get to the "position where the losing side has to sac material" the engine will show a different number at that point than what it started with before the combination of moves. i think the idea of 22:50 knight move is to open the possibility for a checkmate that white did. since the knight is protecting knight from king taking it. black pieces probably attempted it and took the other knight with the rook to allow king to take knight and then white took the rook that captured their knight and hoped that their opponent doesn't see checkmate or doesn't move one of the 2 pawns near king down or the king to the left and to whites credit, they didn't. i have hanged checkmate in 1 move once but i won the game because opponent wanted to make queen. as soon as i did the move that would have lost me the game i kicked myself and when opponent didn't do the checkmate, i applauded myself.

Hi @GothamChess . I am new to Chess so I really have no stones to throw here. However as an older person who’s been around the Sun a few times, I can guarantee you that at the end of this game, and actually at the end of another game where you say, “they’re pooping all over the floor but somehow they find time to clean it up. Before they start doing it again of course.“ - I guarantee you, if they could’ve, both players would be high-fiving each other thinking what a great game. So Close! The Drama! Oh my God you almost had me there. And then I was so brilliant and sacrificed my queen.
    - What was your strategy?
    “I can’t tell you because it’s a secret.
    - A secret from who?
    “A secret from myself!”
These are the kind of guys who think because they watch the Queen‘s Gambit all weekend long, they have the discipline and talent to be 2200 rated players or something.
And the proof that this is their level of awareness?
Look at the game we just watched…
I am 97% sure that checkmate was an accident!
Both are hilarious games with your commentary and I humbly apologize on behalf of the other 0-1000 rank players. I think there needs to be another ranking for players like this though. Keep these unfortunates separate from the other 800s. Something like: Rabid Squirrels in a Cage or something.

Nope, you are wrong. Check is only the second most forcing move, the MOST forcing move is the legendary two-square pawn push. En passant is *FORCED* remember?

Can you do a video for all the adults learning chess out there? All the stuff out there seems to talk about how adults can't be good at chess since they didn't start when they were 10 or something. I'm not sure if you coached any adult learners, but I'd like to hear about that.

Listen, I am a 900 and I have some games where I feel like someone slipped me a drug and I literally make every wrong move. Then the next game I play at like 92% accuracy. Its a weird place to be.

I'm an extremely casual chess player, and I'd love to say I wouldnt blunder as bad as these fellows but I probably do.. however as soon as I saw that second knight move to attack the rook I knew black was going to blunder back rank mate, it's like thanos - inevitable.

  • @itsnarroblox

I swear, these How To Lose at Chess games give the evaluation so many mood swings, it's like "Oh, black is winning in the first 5 moves" "Uh oh, black made a blunder! Now white is better!" "Uh oh, after making so many dumb moves and still winning, white somehow made a BIGGER blunder and now black is winning!" "Uh oh, black somehow finds a way to sabotage the game again and white is winning!" "Oh, white lost the game. Wow." I lowkey thought I had Gotham here and thought white is either stalemating or losing this game, but I jinxed it

No, he meant that Black's king is in the middle of Black's back rank. Specifically when talking about the king, we often call this place "the middle" for short.
