i have been truck driving for over 50 yrs, when i started lorries didn't have very good very heater not like today so why do drivers have to drive wearing dirty filthy coats. leaving fifth wheel grease all over the seats?
in August I passed my truck license and haven't found a job yet. This vlog is something that was missing on YT. As a new driver you understand the concerns beginners have and I can see that you are trying to help us. Keep a great work mate, you get a subscription from me and I'm waiting for the next vlogs buddy. Thanks to people like you, beginner drivers have the opportunity to see what a driver's job looks like, which will give them more confidence. It's really cool that you showed from the very beginning how to do a manual entry and explained it in a simple way! Stay safe on the road Mate!
That's the whole idea of this channel, to show people what it's like and to help them out where i can. It's vlogs like these that made me decide to finally go for my licence. It's really daunting to start with, but eventually, it becomes fun. Thanks for the comment.
New pass here looking to get into my first job also and completely agree with you, love watching these videos and always find myself learning a thing or two from each one too. Don't let the negative nancys in the comments discourage you Matt, these videos are top notch 👍
I've been a PSV driver for the past three years doing lots of Flixbus and school routes and I'm getting tired of carrying cargo that talks lol. I think it's time to get my truck licence. Cheers for the insightful video.
Keep up the great work matt, my dad was an old school driver, the biggest regret in my life is not following him into the industry, have a great career in trucking.
I used to do general haulage, got to the point where the manager was taking on any crap other firms didn't want. I'm now moving plant equipment which is challenging at times but a lot more interesting.
In my limited time in this industry, I've heard about many firms going bust, so I'm not surprised if your boss was trying to make as much money as possible! And I see plant lorries all the time and I always wonder what that's like.
A decent truck nav and take no BS from anyone and dont let the boss push you ..if your not comfortable dont do it my friend cover your own back all the time and you will be fine 👍
I realise you’re probably new to the job and lacking in experience but always go the most truck friendly route, if it’s motorway use it as far as possible. I’m just retired from the job after 45 years and trust me a truck sat nav and a truckers atlas are the most essential bits of kit that you need. Never guess at bridges!
Good point about choosing a truck friendly route. I didn't want to be late so I went with the quickest. And I do have a HGV sat nav that's set to my height and everything. I knew I could fit under but it just didn't feel tall enough.
It's never too late bud! My local lorry school charges £50 for an hour taster session. Give yours a ring and book yourself a lesson. You can thank me after 😉
You are talking some rubbish and general drivers having all their trailers loaded before them and why go that way from Knowles yard i am surprised they are allowing you to do videos like this ?
Knowels yard to Enfield! A141, shoot across to Ely down the A10 on to A14 at Cambridge join M11 straight down to M25. Invest in a decent truck satnav and a truckers atlas, always handy! Google maps is great for checking stuff and strest view but dont follow it, only on the very last part of ya journey! 👍
Yeah i probably should've gone that way. I do have a truck nav and it wanted me to go this way. I did think why is it sending me this way but for all i know there could've been an accident or something.
@@M0RLEY it's all a learning curve mate, nobody jumped in a truck the first time and new everything, it takes time to gain experience but credit to you for getting ya license and giving it a go 👍
Take my Hat off to you Matt, I always wanted to do what your doing, my old man used to drive for Machine of Holbeach then Tinsley's then Christine selverson if thats how you spell it cant remember, even thou i worked there as a warehouse forklift op for afew yrs in the 2000s, then it went to Gist, Gist is same yard as wot Spalding haulage was in, but I was always out with the old man, always wanted to be a lorry driver, at 16 took my bike CBT test, then it was planned to do my car then my HGV, but while I was 17 I saw a fatal accident on the A17 fosdyke right outside Tinsley's yard, I was fishing in there pit, and it was a car head on vs rigid think it was 1995 or 96, driver dead and his 2 kids trapped, we help get kids out the back of car, but ever since that, seeing that bloke bleed out and die, I sold my little 125 bike, never past my car test and my biggest wish, never past my HGV which I had dreamed of since going out with my old man In his Leyland marathon in the 1980s, what I'm saying is, sit back when you get stressed, don't rush at your job alway take things slow and love every moment your going down the road, I always remember my old man saying that, I wish I was in your seat, im nearly 50 now so bit to late. Loved your content! Drive safe. A Matt brilliant job for your 3rd, many more to come. PS give up smoking or you end up being 50 with COPD and not have the power in your lungs to climb the steps of your truck, thats from experience😅 and you got a clean jacket for it only being your 3rd day 😅
Thanks for your comment mate. That must've been horrible to witness no wonder why you were put off. It's never too late, car test is really easy and then you can spend £50 for an instructor to take you out for a taster lesson in a lorry. You could get it done this year.
I am surprised Knowles have aloud you to show you in the yard showing were the car park is were units are parked and saying were the loaded trailers are cant see certain people in charge at Knowles being very happy about it ?
They do watch these videos and they know I'm happy to remove anything they don't like. Each unit has a few trackers on and there is always security on site.
Nice parking 😊 so was it just 1 drop to Sainsbury's then back to yard then home ? I love the 1 drops to RDC no messing around with multi drop bollocks 😅
I'm sorry but God knows why you went that way common sense would.of told you not to go that way especially with type of load. I know because I pull for knowles myself and told with that type of load you had on to go the smoothest way possible. It's no fun restocking stuff or shooting the load and get rejected
I didn't really consider how smooth the roads were going to be. They were all strapped so I thought it wouldn't matter but you are right, I know now for next time.
I just find them long and boring. It's not very often I go on them. And do you mean I should've let the tug go first? Cos I agree, I noticed that watching the clip back.
Just a word of advice...get yourself a proper HGV satnav. If DVSA pull you over and they find you're using your phone as a satnav...you'll get fined and possibly points as it's illegal to use a mobile phone for a satnav (even if its an hgv satnav app). Don't believe me....speak to Mr Boon for confirmation.
I do have a HGV sat nav. I use my work phone to show the route to the camera because it's clearer. When I'm going somewhere unfamiliar I normally have both on the go. But i didn't know it was illegal, just a silly idea because of bridges / weight limits.
If its in a proper holder and is pre set and not obstructing your view then you can use it ,there are no vechicle specific laws for sat navs, except the amount you can be fined
It clearly isn't Illegal to use your Phone as Sat Nav in the UK as any 2 second search of the legislation will confirm, Another one spouting complete bs 🙄
First time I have watched your video & god only knows y you went such a arse about face to Sainsbury’s Enfield from your depo , you would be better purchasing a proper truck atlas & scrapping the Twat nav & to say you have only been as far as Scunthorpe tells me your relatively new to the job , fuck that for a job I only drive 7,1/2 T lorry done it for 45 yr & I have seen the world a few times with no twat nav , if ya can git there by road , train & boat I will have been , would boor me senseless being a pallet monkey doing same shit every day , if it works go for it but please spread ya wings see the world & get paid for it
Well maybe realise he is new at the job and hasn't been doing it long, surely you must have been new at the job once, why the need to put someone down, if you don't like it fine but he's not been doing it long so obviously doesn't have the experience you claim to have
i have been truck driving for over 50 yrs, when i started lorries didn't have very good very heater not like today so why do drivers have to drive wearing dirty filthy coats. leaving fifth wheel grease all over the seats?
Yes I probably shouldn't wear it in the cab. I normally get in and out every 5 mins doing multidrop, and i do wash it but it's stained.
