Thanks, I need reminding from time to time. Subscribed.Question, when dealing with a gunshot or chest penetration, thru and thru, are we still using chest seals on both entrance and exit wounds. On one recertification with St Johns the instructor said NO chest seals are used these days. This conflicts with what is in the manual.

Im studying to become an emt in mexico city. I was told OPAs are better than NPAs in inconscious patients and nurses inmediately remove npas on the ER, but doing some research it seems as if npas are way better than opas. They can be used in semi and inconscious patients and dint trigger the gag reflex, and they do seem to secure an airway going past the tongue slightly. We do use chest seals and needle decompression for penetrating trauma in the chest and collapsed lungs

@@danielcruz9569 I n my area of Canada we are light years behind the USA in FA.
The green NPA is the most common. Frankly, I’d never remember how to measure for an OPA. Also the patients vitals could deteriorate while undergoing your treatment or assessment, ie stop breathing, then you are playing catch-up.
Nurses never listen to FA people like you and me. I found this out a couple of days ago when one got into a bike accident, hitting her head. She would not listen to me.
      Good luck in your course!

@@danielcruz9569 I have them. Daniel, I can provide you with a lot of good info. Is there a secure way to communicate with you online?
I can provide contact info and FA gear firms and other gear which could be helpful?
Generally FA kits don’t have all the best gear, just the cheapest.

Hi doc something like this can help sleep apnea patients. Do you know of something like Nastent that’s available in the US or Canada?
Also can these be re-sanitized with UV sanitizer and reused?

It's very uncomfortable to have one put down your nose, I don't think you'd want to do it for sleeping unless it was an emergency.

Hi George, what size NPA is best for the first aid kit?
    Family is made up of:
    - male adult 6’1”
    - female adult 5’6”
    - Children 1yr, 3yrs and 6yrs

Hi: They are generally sized to the patient so it really depends on nostril opening size and then the intended use. I'd grab a kit from a supplier that has all the sizes in it therefor your prepared for any situations that may occur.

Best to consult your doctor before trying as insertion of it can can swelling, bleeding and inflammation which could worsen your condition.

I wish his right hand didn't keep blocking the view. Maybe put the camera on the other side of the patient? Otherwise video is quite helpful as usual. Great information.

Hi: Thanks for your comments. There is a NPA video where I size and insert the NPA into my own nasopharynx. That might have a better view and may help.

I was going to buy some from Amazon and use them because my nose collapsed and I can't breathe. I'm not a mouth breather. I also have a hereditary deviation. But when I saw how it looked after you inserted it in your nose, I thought, "Ummm...NO!" Is there ANYTHING I can use that isn't obvious? I don't want tape over my nose, and everything else has a piece of plastic running under the nose, making it obvious. I tried a silicone straw cut down, but it kept slipping out. Any ideas?
