Guys, I think he is just hearing impaired. I doubt this boy was totally deaf there was no sign language being done. I doubt specialists would talk to him if he didn’t know language haha. She’d use sign language. Many children receive cochlear implants. You can see he knows his name already.

I remember the first time I got hearing aids. As a grown man I couldn’t hold back tears. Hearing birds, zippers, just everything in the world. What these videos don’t show is how hard it is to adjust. It takes a while for your brain to process. It is incredibly overwhelming. Hearing technology has come so far. The sad thing is that quality equipment costs thousands. Little to no help with the cost. Insurance for everything but hearing it seems like. This needs to change

Imagine never hearing a sound, then all of a sudden, - it's so wonderful, but I'm sure at first some children get scared not knowing what it is, bless their precious hearts. The little boy John, how he went to his mom so quickly and she held him tight, you could just feel the love.

I think in the video they said something along the lines of "you can hear again!" (6:17 ish), and her English (pronunciation) was actually pretty good, so I wouldn't be surprised if she had actually lost and then regained her hearing. After not being able to hear how you sound for a while, it could definitely cause speech impediments.

After the parents? agreed on this model and have the money available, she would get a brand new set, customized for her. (On this set the inner ear part was too long.)
Prices are not that high though, even for US standards.

A friend of my wife’s daughter had this done when she was in her late teens. She could talks but not well. She told us one time that when she first heard sounds everything sounded like it was coming from a crackling speaker in her ear bc the brain never heard sound before and didn’t know how to process it. I think she said it took a few days or weeks for it to sound normal.
