    *Works so well **Fastly.Cool** for rv that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*

    Hard start kits and run caps can be bought typically way cheaper from an appliance parts house rather than an RV service center. All you need to do is take the old caps in with you or write down the values. Usually those roof units have 20 - 40uF on the compressor and a 7.5uF on the fan. Sometimes new caps will eliminate the need for a hard start kit but it is not always the case.
    Good maintenance would be to change the caps for the fan and the compressor all at once so you know you have all new ones.
    Also while you had it opened up, it may been a good time to clean the coils out.
    All these rooftop units are are big window units configured to blow down rather than up and out the front.

    Thanks for this video. I think this may be exactly what is wrong with mine. It has never given me any issues until today. We just had days of heavy rainfall so I was thinking it may have something to do with it, but there was no thunder/lightening. I was thinking something must have just gotten wet and needed to dry out, but then I smelled something burning the last time I tried it. I will get up on the roof and see what's going on. I will pay someone to do the work, though. I don't mess with electrical stuff.

    I got a 2006 River Forest camper and I think I blew my capacitator my plugins work but my air conditioner don't work my lights don't work my porch lights don't work and my igniter in the bathroom that ignites my hot water don't work so they left aI guess it's called power supply box it's underneath the cabinets right underneath the breaker box so I replaced it the capacitor I guess it looks like two long batteries I think the other one is bad but at first I did not have any kind of electric I took that old capacitator out of that old one that they left in here and replaced it but what happened was I moved to a new spot and they told me to go get a 220 and for the outside plug in and mine was a 110 so I did that and wired it up and plugged it in and I think that's what blew it so like I said after that happened I went and got them pieces out and replaced it but I think the other one is bad that's why they bought the whole piece for like $150 I got one coming through the mail for like 6 bucks hopefully that does the job but if you know what I'm talking about please help me I live in Kentucky I say you all are far away

    Thank you for the video! I have a Duo Therm Brisk Air but AC only, no heat strip, in my RV bedroom. I am on 50 amp power and was using both AC, no problems until the day the bedroom Dometic went out. I started it and it sounded strange (surging sound like couldn't quite get up to speed) turned it off immediately. From then on, won't start, zero noise or movement. I was running living room and bedroom Dometic same time for a many days/weeks(?) again no problem. Then smelled warm electric smell when running both. The smell could have been coming from inverter power/circuit/fuse box (2006 Sierra Sport Toy Hauler by Forest River) or AC, couldn't tell. So I stopped using both AC at same time. No smell when using just living room unit. Could there be faulty wiring in inverter area or burned out circuit? All circuits are on, no fuses blown. I am novice on AC units but saw video that says capacitors carry huge amounts of current even unplugged and though I am mechanically inclined, the capacitor holding voltage now scares me. I am unsure where to start and what to do. Can do repair, just need SAFE instructions. We live 2+ hrs from nearest town and do not have a RV tech in our area. Any ideas or suggestions? Also, could pet hair be getting into the unit causing things to get clogged and not run? Thank you!!

    So I’m having trouble with my RV Ac which is also a demotic brand but I don’t think it’s the compressor capacitor. The compressor kicks ON but never get airflow thru the actual vents inside the RV. I need help as it’s starting to get warm down here in the southern states. Any ideas what it could be?

    • @rvtechtips874

      Could be the fan capacitor or the motor is locked up. If it was me I would turn it on and CAREFULLY try to spin the blower wheel. I am really quick about it because odds are that the motor will kick right on. If so change the cap.

      @@rvtechtips874 Thanks for responding! This particular AC unit has a 3 pole capacitor. It’s basically 2 capacitors in one. They do this to save space. I checked all 3 poles and I get a good microfarad reading on all of them. I now need to find out of if there is a squirrel cage air handler fan somewhere in interior of the RV. I’ve never worked on an RV AC so it’s all new to me.

    What size start cap do i need for a Duotherm Model 59516.601?

    • @Elfnetdesigns
      @Elfnetdesigns 2 роки тому +2

      MOST Duotherms / Dometics will run on a 25 - 35uF compressor cap and a 7.5uF fan cap stock, you can go up to a 40 but I personally would not leave that as a permanent fix. IF the compressor wont start up then go to your local appliance parts house and get a hard start kit and install that across your compressors cap -> C and HERM terminals.

    I have a domectic duo therm and my unit has 3 capacitors, two black smaller ones and the larger one. The fan on ac wont start on its own but runs if you hand spin it to start it moving. Which capacitor is to start the fan? ?

    • @Elfnetdesigns
      @Elfnetdesigns 2 роки тому

      Fan caps are typically 5 or 7.5uF, physically smaller than the compressor cap and the leads will run off to the fan motor (usually brown in those roof units)
      Your 3 caps are Fan start/run (5 or 7.5uF), Compressor start/run (20 - 40uF) and Compressor hard start (some stupid high value typically 4 numbers long)

      I know this is a late comment but did you try a hard start kit?
      If so when you apply power and if the compressor just hums, take a hammer and tap the metal casing of the compressor and see if it starts running, I know this seems barbaric and unorthodox but it does work sometimes. What happens is the last time the compressor turned off it was under high head pressure (a compressor needs a boost cap when the head pressure is high like on a hot day, this is why it makes louder noises and such), over time (when you are not using it for months on end) the pressure equalizes and the reactions between refrigerant and it's oil stop and sometimes the compressors rotor can become "locked" (called LRA or Locked Rotor Amps) which is due to all the oil running down off the top of the rotor bearings , etc. Longer the unit sits not running the worse the lock gets until you will either have to buy a new unit or replace the compressor. In theory one would turn the compressor upside down but that requires removal of the unit and some maneuvering on a rooftop that may or may not be stable or suitable for such action. Besides I have not had much luck doing this, the hammer tapping worked more.
      It is ALWAYS a good idea to turn the unit on and let it run for at least 30 min to an hour per month even while the RV is in a storage state off season, especially if the AC unit is over 5 years old and definitely if the RV / unit is stored and freezing temperatures are common, Preventative maintenance is what we call it, those units only have about 1lb charge of refrigerant in them, thats not much compared to your homes AC.

      @@Elfnetdesigns Thanks for the advice. We shall try that. Hammers sometimes work, even though it sounds unorthodox. I will let you know after we try it.
