I didn't splice anything, I cut the wires form the old motor and left in place. Like that I could just follow color code. And yes you do have to open the molex connector to insert your new pins with your new wire. I previously had installed a soft start as well. I didn't unwrapped the manufacturer black insulated wires. I just parallel wrapped the new ones to it using electrical tape..
