The fact that James Newton Howard was given under 8 weeks to write and record the score for the entire film after Howard shore left the project is phenomenal. Really says a lot about his musicianship and dedication, considering he was nominated for best score at the oscars.
thats gotta be wrong, buddy. Peter Jackson takes part in every step as the score is being WRITTEN. to suddenly opt on not using the written music after it was recorded. that just would never happen. the score was either rejected by the ABSOLUTE "powers that be." or howard shore left (or was rejected) for personal reasons. keep in mind that they were friends. And also, keep in mind, Howard Shore is actually in the movie!!!! He plays a stage conductor in New York. Did YOU know THAT???
WHEN are they going to release the rejected "King Kong" score? I'm very interested in listening to it and compare it the final score by James Newton Howard.
That was really depressing to watch. Jackson is more interested in the damn room than lauding what Shore did. The tease of Shore's music is torture. AFAIK, he didnt complete it. JHN'S quickly written effort is ok, IMO. The Thomas Newman-esque piano cue in the ice skating scene completely took me out of fantasy and back to...every other "sensitive" score we're now inundated with. Sad situation all 'round. Bet the NZSO were befuddled....
I think part of the problem is the orchestra. I dont really know how high of caliber the NZSO is, but I gurantee you their probably no London Symphony Orchestra.
@@alexperezmansergas8118Maybe if Howard Shore did complete his score for King Kong it would've opened the door for him to get hired to do more big budget films.
What on earth is a "normal" score? Making it sound like every other film? The composer should be allowed to interpret the musical language of a film, since he or she is trained to do so. Unfortunately, decisions are left in the hands of non-musicians such as producers or directors. KONG needed a lush, retro sound to compliment it's antideluvian concept.
I agree! The JNH score had elements of Steiner in it - but from what I could hear of Shore's score - it would have been far more dramatic and bold, like the original film. I think I would have preferred that over the "wall of sound" and "tender piano and string pads" in the final score.
In most cases it's decent to trust the composer, yes, but evidently, in this case, it didn't work out. It was Jackson's movie, Jackson knew what he wanted, and Shore's contributions weren't supporting the movie that Jackson was envisioning. James Newton Howard's contributions did.
I got the original scoring session and Peter did they right thing by dropping Howard Shore. His score didn't had any distinctive themes and was too random. It doesn't have the emotional connection that you get with James Newton Howard's score.

he also probably had the rejected score, or parts of it, to use as a base (no musical pun intended), which could've helped a lot.
Joe Kaput no he didn't. The score was classic Newton Howard all the way. Action cues sound like his writing from Waterworld".
Stefan Frederic i think his score fits the movie and is beautiful
His work on Kong is exceptional
man, i really wanna hear the Howard Shore's version...but JNH's King Kong score's awesome too.
I would have liked to actually have heard the rejected score.
I would like to have a full recording of this score so that I could compare it to Howard's. Too bad they never released it.

It was Jackson's call. He and Shore had a difference of opinion and Jackson didn't want to keep arguing with Shore about it.
@@adamzanzie Same thing happened with Danny Eflman and Tim Burton on Ed Wood, which, coincidentally, was scored by Howard Shore.

Probably NEVER
Where can we hear the rejected score?
In some WB vault.
why did howard shore get rejected? i'm not mad about it, but anyone know why? also, where can we hear all of the score he recorded?

@RealSkyDiver2 - You mean that you have the full recording of Shore's score? Where did you get it, because I would absolutely love to have it.
I love that the gong mallet is cheetah print. =]
They only used Shore's music in the theatre scene when Kong is displayed at the end of the film.
That Music is from the original Max Steiner classic King Kong score

I thinik you can tell that Jackson is not happy atall... but maybe it has to do with it that he was pretty exhausted troughout the production.

You do have it?
I'm going to guess that this isn't true, and that you don't actually have it.
So fake.
Hard to imagine that after the incredible score that was the Lord of the Rings
Actually they replace his face in the movie. Did YOU know THAT???
Its a good thing howard shore;s compositions dint make it . coming off lotr ..everything would have fall under his shadow
+sanch Sanchayan Never hurt John Williams after star wars
He's wearing somebody else's face though.
