Agree! A side note: Last week, my daughter was wearing her "Memorize What Matters" t-shirt and said to me, "I like to wear this t-shirt because it reminds me to work on my scripture memory!" Thanks again for that free t-shirt you gave out last year to Patrons.
I agree with you, Josh. I don't wear shirts with scripture on them, but your comments are valid. I think it is also common to see scripture misused and taken out of context and put on shirts and mugs and such, but as much as I think those things are irritating I want to look at my own shortcomings. I am having a hard time getting started with Bible memory, so please pray that I can truly get a realistic routine going. Blessings on your family and ministry! Sincerely, Catherine
I agree with you. If you are wearing a scripture that you can't quote that makes you as a Christian look stupid. So how can you help or influence someone who is searching when you don't know what you are talking about. Don't wear it if you can't quote it.
I had never thought about that before. It makes total sense. Thank you for sharing your pet peeve with us. If I get any articles of clothing with verses on it, I will put that as a priority to memorize.
Josh, I totally agree with you!!! If a Christian wants to wear a T-shirt with a Scripture reference printed on it, that person truly needs to have it memorized plus be able to explain the meaning of the verse. Sending you God’s blessings and big hugs from ESTONIA! Barbara
I definitely agree! If you’re gonna wear something make sure you know it. When I am also wearing any Christian T shirt etc I also am thinking am I presenting Christ well…. Some days I choose not to wear it bc of my “attitude”
Ha! Interesting! I hadn’t thought of that but totally true. As somebody who can read Chinese, I’m always amazed at how many people tattoo complete gibberish on their bodies just because they think it says something that it doesn’t.
First: I agree with you completely. One should know exactly what a verse says and means if they are proclaiming it on a shirt the are wearing. Second: I want to say God bless you for demonstrating godly leadership to teenage boys in today’s world. 2 Timothy 2:15 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
So good. But also…having that verse on a basketball jersey kinda shows they dont know what that verse truly means…kinda like using Phillipians 4:13 for sports…. Also the fact that i want Acts 20:24 as one of the verses to be used for the 2025 BMG challenge is kinda funny. Thank u for this vid Josh
Side note: In general, we should also know what the things we wear are representing. Most of my wardrobe is either clothing that's been given to me or that I've bought used. I was given a couple hoodies, they fit nicely and were comfy, I decided I better look up the one word printed on the hoodies, "Fly" (stands for "First Love You"). Yikes! That's opposite of what I want to proclaim to the world. Now I'm a bit more careful with the clothing people give me.
Those shirt are great for a conversation starter, and help us to remember in a lot of situations of our identity as sons of God. Thanks for your video and clarifying what pet peeve means
Good point... and good pet peeve. Lol. We are walking billboards of Truth. Whether that be proclaiming Christ with our voice, bearing testimony of what Jesus has done in our heart by our conduct, or the clothing we wear and accessories we carry, etc., we're saying something about our faith and all Truth-Jesus Christ!
I absolutely agree with you. I'll even take it a step further: Don't put a chatch-phrase on your shirt and then have a scripture reference below it, because most people seeing your shirt will just assume the catchphrase is the actual Bible verse. That's not cute. Either have a catchphrase to explain if someone's curious, or a Bible reference, but not both, because that's misleading.
Totally. It just means "extended period of time in which we have certain societally approved excuses for excessive consumerism". What happened to Advent being a time of reflection - of fasting, even! -, looking forward to the return of Christ? Collectively calling this time of year "holiday season" devalues what the upcoming holiday truly ought to mean to us.
As a person who is a t-shirt nerd, I agree 1,000,000%. 1 Peter 3:15 definitely applies! Love your shirt. Same thing with the 5 Gospel symbols which tells a story. If you wear them, and people ask, be ready to say He came, He died, He arose, He ascended, Hes coming back. It doesnt hurt to have a few scriptures that connect to that Gospel story.
Agreed. I was expecting to hear Philippians 4:13 (or other Scripture) used out of context. But I agree. If we claim to respect Scripture so much, we should hold the bar high for outsiders as well as other Christians. Good points.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, however, given the state of the church today, it's not surprising people have no clue what the verse references mean. I literally know a woman, raised in the church, who did not know David was a shepherd when we were discussing Psalm 23. So there's that.
Agreed! In this way, 1 Peter 15 can be done/followed, and besides this, being able to share scripture, and in this way faith, one could be inspired to accept christianity as the true faith, and one could be inspired to also study scripture
Oof, pet peeve at 1:29 - The reference is to Psalm (singular) 118:6. Chapter 118 from the Book of Psalms is *a* Psalm, it's not a Psalms. Psalm 118:6 is the proper form of the citation.
I think you have a good point! It's somewhat hypocritical to not know what you're wearing! But, as a woman, I have a different reason not to wear 'readables' on a t-shirt at all! I'm sure you get it. 😏
Maybe so, but I know some very godly Christians who might not be able to quote the verse they’re wearing word-for-word. I don’t think it’s an indictment against someone - this video is simply meant as a fun challenge.
A bigger pet peeve of mine, though along the same lines, are those who know the word of God, and have actually memorized it and can quote it verbatim, yet they don’t and they will simply refer to biblical references. Don’t do that! The word of God is worthy to be quoted, not the reference.
I'm not a big proponent of memorization, but if you're undergoing such a task, why are you not memorizing the King James specifically? Have you ever learned about "The Elton Anomoly"? How the King James Bible's all inclusive total wordcount comes out to 823,543 or 7x7x7x7x7x7x7 or 7⁷? Revelation Chapter 5 is about the King James specifically. 7 seals make the perfect book. It is done. Funny thing is that most people, even unbelievers, actually have a few bible quotes memorized. Seriously, if you ask an american what Jesus said on the cross, a surprising number of people will quote almost verbatum the King James version of what jesus spoke in Luke 23:34 "Forgive them for they know not what they do"
Not only quote scripture but act, behave, love your enemies, have the fear if God and know if you represent God you will be judged by his Jesus's standard it nit a fashion/ fade its eternal life or eternal death. Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins ✝️💜
Eh. I think it’s good to encourage that but to essentially say “don’t wear it unless you can explain it” is like saying “don’t carry your Bible unless you can teach it”. This seems like a particular pet peeve that comes from your perspective of being ultra-focused scripture memorization. To restate. I think it’s better suited to use scripture on someone’s clothing, to teach them, rather than make a video about how it peeves you when they can’t recite it. This pet peeve seems to come a bit more from pride than it does righteousness. (Just my perspective, take that note how you will)
Fair enough. At the end of the day, my goal for anybody who is watching this is the same as the challenge I gave to my players: take the 5 minutes to memorize the verse. Not a whole chapter. Not a whole book. Just a verse that’s on your shirt. Do you really think that’s being ultra-focused on Scripture memorization? Also, I didn’t say don’t wear the shirt - just know what you’re wearing. 😎
@ my comment on being “ultra-focused on scripture memorization” was geared towards your channel, not your opinion on the shirt. It also wasn’t a negative comment, just recognizing the nature of the channel was all. The only reason I drew the line all the way to “don’t wear it” is because that’s how these comments can be received. Using the language of “pet peeve” doesn’t encourage people towards correction, more than it does discourage them. For example, a player on your team (if they heard these comments) may look at the shirt in their closet and instead of feeling convicted to learn the scripture, may instead think “Oh I don’t remember that verse right now, better pick something else.”
I wish religious people would stop trying to ram their opinions down other peoples' throats, as if their faith gave them the right to do so. As a non-believer I don't feel the need to stop people to tell them that their god is made up, or to wear t-shirts e claiming the lack of a magic sky friend. Please, believe what you like. Enjoy your religion with friends and family, but stop wearing it like a badge of honour, and leave everyone else alone.

I agree! Always be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in you. If you wear it, share it!
Wear it…share it. I like it! 😂
I totally agree Josh. We are too casual about scripture… If we wear in on the outside it better first be on the inside.
Well said 👏
I agree with you, Josh. I don't wear shirts with scripture on them, but your comments are valid. I think it is also common to see scripture misused and taken out of context and put on shirts and mugs and such, but as much as I think those things are irritating I want to look at my own shortcomings.

You can do it, Catherine!
Yes I agree with that wholeheartedly.
Thanks for the comment 😎
Amen, this channel will help me tremendously
I agree with you. If you are wearing a scripture that you can't quote that makes you as a Christian look stupid. So how can you help or influence someone who is searching when you don't know what you are talking about. Don't wear it if you can't quote it.
We all deserve grace when looking at others, but it’s worth looking at ourselves to make sure this remains true. 👍🏻
I had never thought about that before. It makes total sense. Thank you for sharing your pet peeve with us. If I get any articles of clothing with verses on it, I will put that as a priority to memorize.
Please do!

I totally agree! And this includes tattoos as well!

@@BibleMemoryGoal Exactly!!!
@@BibleMemoryGoal
People shouldn't tattoo
Use INKBOX or BODYMARK instead
Or Henna
No blood involved
Having a tattoo with scripture but not memorising it is absolutely wild!

I agree 100%. If you can’t quote or reasonably state the verse, then you have no point in wearing the item of clothing.
Seems reasonable.
Good point... and good pet peeve. Lol.

It’s never crossed my mind to be peeved at that. What peeves me are Christians who make excuses about why they dont memorize scripture.
Ha…we all make excuses so for so many things, don’t we?
So true you are spot on!!
🙏👍🏻

@@BibleMemoryGoalI've heard enough people "quote" scripture to me as they had seen it on a T-shirt to be concerned about it.

@ I most definitely am! 🤣
Totally agree. We need to be able to use whatever we have to share the gospel. So if we have Christian clothing we need to be able to use it.
Take the opportunities we’re given, right?
I agree. I love the shirt - I just ordered mine!
Awesome!
Hi Josh, I agree with you 1000% 😉
Good to hear!
I think you're making a good point. I'm from the Philippines.
Welcome! 🙏
Agreed.
I was expecting to hear Philippians 4:13 (or other Scripture) used out of context.
But I agree. If we claim to respect Scripture so much, we should hold the bar high for outsiders as well as other Christians. Good points.
Thanks, Chris 👍🏻
Completely agree!!!
👍🏻👍🏻
It's the same way with people having scripture references on their social media and they don't know what it says
Definitely should know.
Between sports team, places they love, Pikachu or Che Guevara, seeing a shirt with an unknown Bible verse where I live would be refreshing
😂🤣
Totally agree! What's the use of wearing something if you can't explain what it means?
Exactly 👍🏻
I fully agree

Yea, Biblical literacy is an issue.
Guess it's like wearing a fake Rolex. It's just window dressing.
