Check out Bullard Abrasives NetGrind non-loading flap wheels made specifically for aluminum. They do not clog at all, and last a lot longer than non aluminum specific wheels. They leave a better finish also as they do not drag clogged material through your work. Work great on plastics as well, if needed.
I took my ball peen hammer and used my tig welder to braze some silicon bronze to the flat end. It is now 2 times better at not making up other stuff I beat on.
Aaron , thank you for taking the time to make this video, I saw a good tip for making precision measurements with dividers or a compass. You use a Starrett 12 rule and each line is ground into the rule , so you put the points of the tool in the ground lines on the rule and you are now transferring your measurements the most accurate way…
Thanks! These videos are super helpful. It’s always great to get suggestions on tools and which ones hold up to use. You never know what you may be missing. For example my buddies always “loaned” tools from when they were working on jets in the service and I never knew what a Panduit gun was until I saw it on their bench. You would think a zip tie gun was a waste of time but, I tell you, they are great and tighten the zip tie and leave a perfect flush cut and never leave that sharp edge that will send you to the hospital in the future. Don’t get a plastic one, get a used all-metal one off of eBay that is past it’s calibration date and you will use it a lot and wonder why you didn’t have one before. Hope this helps someone. 👍🏻
Angle grinder sanding discs, PFERD curved or derivatives are also cool when finishing. I use those a lot in hard to reach places and at some point I started to use these a lot, because wholesale prices compared to regular are not that different.
I love this kind of content for a change. Ordering up a set of pliers now. That was great. I’d like to know a little more about that WD40 valve though. I use shure shot pressurized canisters but often find them too heavy and cumbersome.

It bottoms out at whatever depth you set it at. A slight improvement would be to knurl both pieces, but they work fine without.
They're a bit harder to find but the ultra fine retractable Sharpies are worth it over the traditional cap version. They seem to hold up a bit better and not having to hunt down the cap is really nice too, lol
Buy a gallon of WD40 (costs the same as large spray bottle) and cheap gardening sprayer, you can get the nozzle out od the sprayer and it will give you nice concentrated stream that is easy to control
I think that you left out a very important one: a first aid kit. Nothing fancy just various size bandaids, alcohol wipes, topical antibiotic cream, tweezers, adhesive tape and gauze pads. Hopefully enough it won't get more than something minor but it helps to have it handy. I am on blood thinners and the slightest cut will bleed a great deal so tending to it right away is quite helpful. Very helpful video.
Ever tried CGW Aluminum flap wheels? You can absolutely hog on them, never gum and last FOREVER. Expensive but worth it, Use them exclusively in our boat fab shop.

Is there a certain flap disc better for aluminum so it doesn’t clog as easy? And what is it? I thought I heard that in a welding video, but haven’t been able to find the product since alumina is in the title of so many flap wheels. Thanks.
@@6061 I believe less but Regular Simple green cautions leaving it on aluminum for long periods of time will eventually corrode aviation claims it can preserve shine etc.
The one you are referring to was a prototype elastic band. It sucks. It wears out and doesn't hold up to heat. That's why all orders are sent out with the improved velcro straps. Much better, and that's what I've been using for the past 4 years.

I refuse to buy any more WD40 with the stupid nozzles. I buy the gallon can and put into spray bottle--PIA. But you'll remember to shake it when you see that white stuff in the bottom.
I absolutely hate the grinders with the paddle lol, if I'm one handing it, the paddle forces me to hold it far back down the handle, so I can't get much leverage while grinding, it feels super unsafe to me. With the switch I can hold it further up much more solidly
I don’t understand why people use grinders without the backing shield on regardless of cut off disc or grinding disc. Asking for a hand injury regardless of if it’s switch of paddle triggered. 😂
Carpal tunnel no matter which grinder it is. Paddles still have a locking switch present so depending on preference paddles grinders are heavier, switches on grinders are more for grinding longer and polishing. As stated before it is all preference there are reasons why everything is built with ergonomics in mind for vastly different populations and needs.
Because paddle switches suck especially for cutting. It puts your hand in an uncomfortable position when turning it sideways. I use metabo grinders with a slide switch and the come unlatched if it kicks back or moved too fast, probably faster than one can release a paddle switch
You could say the same about using grinders without guard and grip. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. I'm not unhappy with the slide switches but I also use guards so what do I know.
About your other vid on the grinder saws (you had to turn off the comments due to idiots), seeing as how you are in a Semi Trailer and usually "not near town" do you have a plan if you did happen to need help from something happening? Just curious how elaborate that is. As for how you get things done - that's your business and everyone should thank you for showing an option. Like Issac of @ICWeld says "This is how I do it, not how You should do it" (and he's doing carbon arc, oxygen lancing, and alot of Vic Torch work on in-the-field earthmover repair).

Aluminum hammer, third hand and chill blocks of various sizes. You nailed everything else.

phosgene is no joke. Even if you clean it with chlorinated a few days prior, it will still off gas. Glad to see Ron commenting.

I've recently started using flap discs with gaps in them so I don't have to keep removing the grinder to check progress.
