- How to use luminance compression in color grading! A very fast and easy tutorial to achieve better results, especially if it comes to smooth highlights and more details in the shadows. It's demonstrated in Davinci Resolve, but you can use this technique in Beselight, Nucoda or Premiere Pro too.

Finally tried this tip. It's great! Thank you.
Just curious, why couldnt you compress shadows and highlights in the same node?
You saved my butt! Thank you!
Great tutorail
May I know aht type of software are you using for scree capture looks very clean and sharp. Love it
Thank you
Just Quicktime :)
Fantastic video as usual Tim.
can you slow us how to achieve the arri highlight roll off ?
is it the same as color space transform luminous mapping?
Thank you Faris! The Arri rolloff is not replicable with just a schema F, but to achieve such a very smooth rollof you should know that the Arri rolloff is near the real film rolloff, and film compresses more and more the higher the luminosity rises. So, you can use curves (as shown in this tutorial) to "replicate" such a very smooth rolloff, but you should know that this only works if you have at least 10bit, better are 12bit. And: you should keep your light ratio stable during the shooting on your subject. Hope it helps a bit.
Very nice it is a great choice to reduce bright Skinhighlights
Thanks bro! Indeed, it gives you mostly a much more pleasing image
Hello @Tim Yemmax Is there anything wrong with clipping the black point if you only plan on uploading to youtube? Sometimes i get the rich contrast look (not crushed look) and look over at scopes to find out i am slightly clipping in the black point on maybe 1 or all 3 of the RGB channels. Is there anything wrong with that if it looks good? thank you! :)
nice color grading
Thank you 🙏
you are welcome
This is what most of the current top color graders don't explain you and hide it in their videos..
