Love your educational videos! I have an OEX PHOXX II v2 that has given me a safe, dry haven, wherever I have needed it. Whilst I do camp in the wild, I also drive the length and breadth of our beautiful country and I DON'T waste money on hotels/motels/B+Bs. I keep an OEX PHOXX II, an inflatable sleeping mat, sleeping bag, stove inside a GSI compact cooking set (I also have and recommend STANLEY products). In short, when we head out for a day out, we never fear the time or place. For a couple of hundred pounds we are fully self sufficient wherever we go. OEX has delivered time after time for us. Our PHOXX II v2 works great for us. We only use it to sleep in and it is Fantastic. We pitch, make a brew, sleep in whatever weather, cook breakfast in whatever form that takes, pack up and we're back on the road again! Do I need another OEX tent? Probably Not because the PHOXX II v2 is perfect for our needs- either in the hills or 25 feet from our car in a lay-by. Thanks for showing us what is available and how much space you actually gain. Godspeed Mister! Carry on Camping! xxx
I have had one of these for a while. Very happy with it, loads of room, only draw back is not a high/tall tent so cant sit upright in it to get dressed. I have used in very wet and very windy conditions, no issue at all, no leaks and no condensation but the floor of the porch did get soaked. Would benefit from 2 small poles to peg up the porch when opened so didn't have to roll. Didn't feel the need for a footprint but no reason not to. Really easy to set up and adjust if you are a bit OCD and have to have straight tault lines and panels. Some nice features like reflective lines and trim. Like the pitch outer first/last, keeps the inner dry. Apart from the gripe of no headroom I wish the poles were In their own bag not with the inner (as you obviously need them to pitch the outer). Next time out I will try a tarp over the entrance for a better seating/work area.
I have the Jackal ii but find when it rains water puddles on the porch ground sheet, makes the porch useless for storage. I think the rain is getting in through the top of the porch door where the Velcro is. Any suggestions?
Decent looking tent the good thing about it it's a outer setup so no need to separate the inner and outer as long as you pack it right it save you a lot of time in setup
This tent looks awesome. Me and my husband are thinking about getting this tent. We're just starting out with backpack camping and watch your videos. Just got to get the money together for it sometime this winter ready for next year.
Great EWM 👍 I’ve bought this tent so I can get away, just me and my German Shepard. but haven’t used it yet (lockdown) Tried looking for reviews but you seem to be the first honest one I’ve come across. Thanks 🙏
Good review mate. Your comments about if you’re happy with it then go with that applies to all kit I reckon. I’ve got a range of stuff and I bought each thing for a different reason, and sometimes it’s coz the first version I had, based on what others had said, didn’t work for me. My kit I take out hiking doesn’t look consistent, I have some ultra lightweight titanium stuff and other bits that are much heavier, but I know why I chose and like each thing, so they’re consistent in that way. 😊 - ATB Mark 👍
i just bought this tent after checking a load out at Go Outdoors, got a better deal on amazon [£102], i was torn between this and a Vango Nova 300(??? might have been a different Vango 3 man i looked at so damn many) it got delivered today but i haven't had chance to put it up yet. i like the little touches that i didnt expect, like the door holder and the reflective trim on the drawstrings keeping the theme from the edge of the fly. 3.3kg was a bit over what i wanted in terms of weight but a berghaus one is double the price and weighed about 5.5kg. hoping to take it down to the New Forest in July, should be a bit more pleasant than my 16 year old no brand dome tent
I dunno if anyone will ever read this. A 3 month update. Took the jackal camping in the new forest. I went on the train solo. Was barely noticeable strapped to the outside of my backpack. It absolutely hammered it down on the first night. Had a pretty major issue with the rain under the "porch groundsheet" pooling on top of it. as it was about 2 inches ahead of the front of the tent. Easy solution: un-peg it and roll it back a few inches. No water got into the porch after. Coat wet, jeans wet, jumper wet... but the interior was dry!!! Had a bit of damp between the outer and inner but the main sleeping area stayed dry. I ended up glad I got to give it a proper run out. Now I know this tent can stand up to some poor weather
loved the review and think your right about the external air vent two, three people in a tent the condensation from breath alone needs to be larger than that one. peace pall
Bet you're enjoying the fresh air outside Dan. Looks a fairly good tent but the rain test etc will tell the complete story. Thanks for the update. Bushyboy Oz.
I wouldn't say £250 is cheap. That's what I paid for mine only a couple of years back Cannot believe people are saying they've got there's for £80. Goes to show you nothings worth nothing in the end.
Just gone on sale at go outdoors, £79. May have to invest, I have the bobcat and phoxx1. Good review always. Watched it a year ago, just having a reminder before I buy.
Be interesting to see this in use. I think you could probably fit you, Scott and Mick in that if you put your gear in the porch. Be all cosy but doable.
Good evening. I have a question. Are you able to sit comfortably in a packable camp chair in the vestibule? I am not as bendable as I was when I was younger, and I usually hang a tarp over the front of my tent for that purpose. It would be nice not to take that extra step if it was not needed. Thank you. Keep having fun and stay safe.
I liked your comment on "it doesn't rain as much in England". LMAO!! Exactly which part of Yorkshire are you from mate? I live in Slawitt in Huddersfield and we have our very own weather patterns here, mainly HEAVY RAIN!!. Have you tried TX Direct spray on waterproofing. It greatly enhances the water shedding abilities of outdoor gear eg tents, clothing, etc. Great vid bro, keep up the good work.....
Question mate - if you had to choose one tent between jackal and coyote which would it be since both seem to occupy same foot print area but coyote has a usable porch
Hi Dan. I've always likes both the OEX and Vango tents. And yes I totally agree with different tents are good for different reasons. I am a big Banshee user and for a solo camp both the Banshee and the OEX Phoxx tents are brilliant. I'm more interested in this one as a true two person tent to take my daughter camping due to the bigger internal size. It looks great and I worked with a chap who was an assessor for the DofE and this was the tent he personally used and swore by. If its good enough for him, it will be alright. Cheers Dan.
Hi Dan , I've been lucky to get this from go outdoors for £79 last year , going to do my 1st wild camp in 2024 with my son, do you think I should by a separate groundsheet for this or do you think it would be fine , also do you think the pegs are good enough for strong wind conditions ? Loved the video , bice to see the tent up as ive not had chance to test mine yet Thankyou Stuart
how is this classed as a back packing tent when its 2 big bags by the looks of it. and at 3.37kg is light so how are others that weigh more are more in a single bag like. I want like a 3 person tent that's green and light as hell with a new rucksack of 30l or more.
hey thanx, good video. Can u sit upright in that tent without head touching roof? Im in Ireland... rains a lot here ... do u think 4000hh groundsheet wud be enough for me here for long term summer camoing? thanx
Great video thanks, you've found a new subscriber and I'm about to go through your other videos after this. Quick question, I seen that the tent can be split into two bags, as I am going next year to my first festival by myself... Would I be able to separate into two bags and attach them to the Vallo EXP 60-70 Rucksack. Thanks in advance, hope you reply to this question. Keep up the good work!
I have a cloud up for hiking, but if I go to a camp site in car with wife,I want a three man tent. Seen oex coyote for £148, or jackal for £110. What would you go for?
I’ve got the same tent only used it once, I’m happy with it. Only thing is I bent 1 of the poles and can’t get any reply from oex to see if I can buy a new 1. Can u give me some advice to what’s the best way to in get in touch with them. It would be much appreciated if u can 👍🏻
It was a mistake on my part, it’s quite hard to get the bigger pole to fit in, although Dan made it look easy. Don’t let my comment put u off it’s a good tent. Have a look on blacks & millets eBay store u might get it on there a bit cheaper than they’re normal sites👍🏻
Personally i hate tents that have pre formed angles in the poles. Weakest point in strong winds. I have seen far too many poles snap. I would like to see you put it up in a reasonable wind You would definitely need two people.

I was meaning like it does in Scotland mate ,, but yes we have had some right rain so far this year
Looks a nice tent plenty of room, but i dont think it would do for three. Unless they were kids. Good vid Dan , keep em coming.
You could probably get 3 just no bags but 2 and 2 bags would fit perfectly
Great tent I like it great review Dan
Great review, thanks. Do you know of the jackal 2 door zips both from top and bottom?
Looks good I would never buy a tent that you have to pitch the inner first, just doesn't make sense to me 👍😎
great tent i`ve been looking for 2 person tent that pack small to fit in my dagger katana
Hi Dan. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Jackal 2. Although you have the larger model, would you rate it as a 3 or 4 season. Many thanks.
4 season mate
Looking for a comfortable, swift ish pitch 3 person tent. Interested In OEX Jackal 3 or Berghaus Cairngorm 3. Preferences Dan please....

At least with the orange inner it can be used as a marker if in trouble upon in hills so mountain rescue and helicopter can spot you easily
Great video, thanks for sharing. Do you think you could get away with just using the fly sheet without the inner tent in warmer weather?
Where do you get the spiky mat you carry on your shoulder? I know it will be good if you use it.

Hi Dan good vid
What would it be like for 1 adult and
2 , 10 year olds for size ?
Looking at the specs the inner is 180cm wide, that's 60cm each for 3, it narrows a little at the end but I reckon it's plenty of room.
