David Sylvian & Ryuichi Sakamoto - Forbidden Colours

- The outstanding treasure, "Forbidden Colours" from Mr David Sylvian and Mr Ryuichi Sakamoto from 1983's movie "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence", starring Mr David Bowie.
Possibly THE best track of all time, along side with Art Of Noise and "Moments In Love" AND This Mortal Coil with "Song To The Siren"!
I'm pretty sure that my fascination with Japanese culture started with this song...in my 20s...I'm now 62...visiting Japan next month for the first time...wish me luck!!!
this song by Ryuichi Sakamoto is a fraud. He stole the melody from a Brazilian called Vinícius de Moraes. the original song is called "Pela luz dos olhos meus" in 1976
@@lysandrabarradas4926Wow! You must’ve REALLY hate Ryuichi Sakamoto because this is the second identical post you’ve done on this video.
Cool, I will simply copy my response to you as well.
would say it’s heavily inspired by the intro melody of "Pela luz dos olhos meus" but it’s definitely not a rip-off. By your measure practically NO new music would be allowed to be released. Every great musician has let themselves be inspired by others and many of them even use the word ‘stole’ to describe their action. It’s what you do with what you’ve stolen that either becomes a copy outright or evolves into something new.
Let me ask you, do you like Hip Hop because it’s unabashedly based around stealing loops from others and building new beats around them?
I hope you enjoyed Japan, sir. Did you visit Tokyo, Osaka & Kyoto, & perhaps the ancient capital Nara with the friendly deer around the temple grounds?
Lucky you ❤ wish u the best
@@lysandrabarradas4926 I Will check It cause I LOVE Vinicius de Moraes music. And ... 😢
RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto. Such a great loss. A true legend. David Sylvian gives such an emotionally moving performance.

@@lysandrabarradas4926Let it go, dude! This is the third identical post you’ve made on this video!
Even David Bowie and the Beatles “borrowed’ from the shoulders of previous great musicians. In fact, this is exactly how anything and everything evolves over time including science. How do you think we ended up rock in the fifties unless someone borrowed from someone else and blended it with something else? In fact there’s a guy who created an algorithm to produce every imaginable melody possible and saved them on a hard drive to prove just this point. Does that mean we should just stop making music now seeing that that guy already “owns” those melodies on his hard drive? 🙄
@@lysandrabarradas4926- Having listen to “Pela Luz Dos Oculares Meu” I have to say you are talking complete bollocks, at best Sakamoto lifted 10 seconds and even that is transposed; get a Ryuichi’s is a completely different (and vastly superior) track!!!
This song makes me cry for no reason
I have been so lucky that I have seen live concert of both David Bowie and David Sylvian during 80's.
You're a lucky person, I only could seen Alva noto (Ryuichi's side project along another musician); and Kraftwerk in 3D
Two of my favourite Davids
I saw Sylvian and Sakamoto in NYC
I saw two in Hong Kong
How lucky you are mate.
Ancora non ci credo che il grande Sakamoto non ci sia più 😢
Ah, Ryuichi Sakamoto. So young, so handsome.

My first listen. It's gorgeous. There are no vocalists on the radio today who can interpret a lyric this well, this long, into a song.

Great …
È devastante aver appreso del decesso di Ryuichi Sakamoto. Un artista grandioso in tutto ciò che faceva, bravissimo come musicista e attore. ❤
❤
Please let me jump back through time and recover the love that I lost, the love for life... the forbidden love
I hear this song now and became aware of it in 1984 at age 15. To back up I have anxiety and alcoholism that started in conjunction fully by 1993. The anxiety since i was 11 and I suppose the behaviors of an addict since before that... 1st drink taken at age 24. In that time Trouser press record guide 1991 edition made myth of this single. Here I am in recovery for 4 years and picked up the pieces of the musical journey that began 25 years ago. As amazing as this song.
Fair play to you Kris! This song reminds me of brilliant but sad times too. I hope you are ok now. That was a brave thing to say. Have you seen the real version of this song? The Japanese composer. It's beautiful. I'll put the link here ok?? ua-cam.com/video/LF9_9MZyQGo/v-deo.html
Good for you!!! I've had anxiety since I was 14 and started drinking at 17 when my Mom died. I'm still at it, the pain of her loss and the anxiety are too much to bear without it. Hope you're still sober!
Kris Scanlon Good Luck with your recovery. I remember this when I was a kid, then couldn't find it until UA-cam, you gotta love it ✌
Debbie Droog I'll pray for you Debbie, you're not alone, you have freinds you just gotta reach out.Take care Peace ✌
Debbie Droog dont believe the lies of alcohol. Its been a struggle for me too. But all the pain weve gone through doesnt have to be relived. Alcohol lies! It tells us to continue to feel the pain forever, yet be numb. Please reach out. You can and will overcome. And your mom will be proud of you from above. 🙏🤗🙌
Such beautiful men inside I love them forever they are a part of my existence
One of the greatest pieces of music in any genre. The instrumental is out of this world and this is a great version which I bought when it originally came out. Was it really 40 years ago
It's been tooooo long since I've heard this ❤ takes me back at least 30 yrs 🙈❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Edinburgh playhouse 26th October 1982/3
Its been a long time since I heard this song.....
Beautiful song remember this wen I was young!!😥😁😂
wonderful
Beautiful, "The wounds on your hands never seem to heal
I thought all I needed was to believe."
My all time favourite song.
....and mine.
+Delyth Evans Mine too!
Morbid I know, but would love it played at my funeral.
Delyth Evans - I've told those close to me years ago I want this at my funeral too :)
Try Night Porter! David Sylvian 👍
Absolutely UnReal ! This Is Outstanding ❤️🌹❄️💞💓💏❄️☃🌲✨
Beautiful video.
This is such a beautiful song. "The wounds on your hands, never seem to heal." David Sylvain has an exquisite voice. Thank you for sharing.
Reminds me of my youth, bloody hell it was rough.
I hope you found your quiet harbour now..cheers..
Why does no one talk about Japan now. Best band of the 80's
Bethany Kinchin without doubt...and i always mention them..i was lucky to see david live in manchester around 1989...ps his voice better than paul buchanon from Tha Blue Nile ??
I liked them (Japan). Had a blue vinyl seven inch of them (where did that go?). I fancied David, of course, but liked their music too. What ever happened to Nick Kahn.
Mick Karn died 4th January 2011 sadly.x
The Style Council. I thank you.
Mark Fisher, Ghosts of My Life. 😎
Most beautiful music I ve ever heard. Voice of david sylvian is great en very authentic I love this song and his voice
j adore écouter cette chanson en boucle. je donnerai une fortune pour revenir à cette époque !
Entièrement d'accord...
;)
RIP David, thanks for everything!
he's not dead! Bowie might be ....
You guys are so unappreciative of what god has given us. David Sylvian's voice is a blessing. Of course, this song could survive without his vocals, but saying his voice DETRACTS the song? Wow, bold for people who probably couldn't hold a note.
This man is unique voice of the true greats of music has spanned the decade late 70s till now
Jeff Smith r is always right in de speak of today
the song is in itself is gorgeous, but sylvian's vocals take it to a whole new level, still have my original 12" vinyl copy and it sounds amazing
Nu Joy his voice is one of the best on earth...paul buchanon also stunning voice....listen to Mid Air song
If he was good enough for Sakamoto to consider as an equal contributor, ass wipes should stfu.
This song & the movie, makes me cry. Everytime.
The most heart wrenching melody from sakamoto and david is just sublime.......
perfect combination of emotions...
i will never forget you.
I was yo when I saw that movie. I've cried like a baby... and Ryuichi Sakamoto's music is still haunting me... Every time i hear it, tears are coming up to my eyes...
Sooooooo beautiful it NEVER fails to break my heart. Legend!
Still gives me goose bumps even after all these years - and one of my wifes favourite songs
Uncanny, he has a perfect nose, just like Bowie, the same great hair, that Bowie walk, and the charisma and unique tone in he voice. Imagine if these two great artists worked together, it would have been amazing, so sad to know that it will never happen
They both use their noses in different poses 😂 the mirror helps
What’s his nose got to do with it? This is petty stuff, totally foreign to the piece of aural art we experience from this music.
just say you love white rich men
Remarkable piece; remarkable film.
Thank you.
David Sylvian was my secret crush in the 80's. 🤭
Happy belated birthday, David ;-)
this track, introduced to me by a friends older sister, was my sole teen angst track.Im in my 40s now,yet still it chokes me.
I have loved David for years !! Always will x
Please don't forget the rather understated performance from Tom Conti. Very underrated!
GENIAL!!!!!!!!
